“Great value rustic hotel in superb location”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Five of us stayed at the Eagles Wings in July 2012. It's in a great position for exploring the Cultural Triangle and very reasonably priced. We stayed in the rooms in the main building so don't know what the lodges themselves are like. The food was really excellent and hanging out in the kitchen helping make the hoppers was a lot of fun. Would really like their tuna curry recipe. The host sat down with us at night and showed us the correct way to eat the food and also arranged for us to swim at a nearby hotel for an added cost which was great at the end of a hot days exploring.

We stayed here for two nights as a base to visit the cultural triangle and we are glad we did for the experience it gave us. We stayed in one of two the log cabins. The room was fine and, having never stayed anywere like it, we enjoyed the whole idea of it. The room had a fan which was very useful but no mosquito net. We didnt think about this until the morning we left and we had quite a few bites between us.
Brian Young, the owner, could not have been more friendly. He made sure that we had what we needed and was a great host. The food was great and Brian taught us how to eat the Sri Lankan way with our hands!
At night we shared our room with quite a few large and small bugs whch did keep me awake. Despite this I would recommend staying here for one or two nights as a base for sightseeing. It was enjoyable. Thank you Brain!

Room Tip: The house rooms will less beasties but the expreience of the log cabin is fab!

We arrived at lodge very late in the evening.  First impressions was that it was very basic but the rooms are simple and clean.  Delicious traditional Sri Lanka breakfast is served in the garden, among the mangoes trees.  This is a perfect stop for those who are looking for a great deal with hidden gems.   In the right season, you might get the occasional wild elephant knocking at your tree cabin.  Walk up the garden path a little further it will lead you straight into the jungle.

I was planning to travel to Polonnaruwa first thing in the morning. However, after speaking to the amazing staff there, I was convince to spend a half day do Ox cart tour into local farming village which turn out to be a great experience!  The staff at the lodge organise everything and negotiated a brilliant rate for myself and two kids.  They even managed to get me a local tuk tuk rate to my next stop  Sigiriya.  We had also had lunch at the lodge and it was simply the best food I had since arriving in Sri Lanka.

I recommend Eagle Wings to anyone wanting to do the Cultural Triangle.
