“Good for a few elephants and a lot of birds”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

We hired a jeep for a tour which did end up seeing a number of elephants. We saw a large variety of birds too - make sure your guide knows you want to see more than just elephants!

“Good place to se Elephants”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

One could see herds of over 40 to 50 wild elephants at very close range, They did not seem to be dangerous in any way.

“Lots of elephants”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

this park is very close to Habarana and is less visited than the more renown national parks that are nearby. This means smaller entrance fees and smaller jeep/guide fees and the biggest plus is less traffic in the park.
We went for the birding and possible elephants and we saw plenty of both.It was a great 4 hour afternoon trip.We organized the trip through Habarana Inn and appears to be the cheapest in town as they own their own jeep which keeps the costs down.Knowledgeable guide.
Highly recommend this trip

“Saw more elephants from the highway than in the eco park”
Reviewed April 17, 2012

Had intended to go to Minneriya NP but was off season for elephants there [April] so was offered alternative trip to Hurulu Eco Park. Trip organised by company based at entrance to Chaaya Village/Cinnamon lodge. Jeep Ok , guide provided was sweet but spoke virtually no English and identified a number of birds incorrectly according to two bird books that I had so I didn't have much faith in his wildlife knowledge. We spent three hours in the park and saw a couple of elephants from a distance , with sightings shared between us and 5 other jeeps. A bit disappointing. Then, on way home from highway saw several large herds of elephants , some really close , apparently they like to hang out there and are more easily visible in clearings near the road. My teenagers enjoyed the jeep ride , and it might be worth considering if you are not going to a national park elsewhere e.g. Yala or Uda Walawe, otherwise save your money and just head to the highway !

“Great Park to see wild elephants and birds”
Reviewed April 15, 2012

We were suspicious of this Park as it was recommended to us instead of Minneryia and due to the name Eco Park we thought it may be more like a zoo. I am glad we decided to go since we saw over 50 elephants and well over 30 water buffalo including a new born struggling to stand for first time. Plenty of birds as well including eagles, hawks. Thus, it was a great safari and our two kids (who had never been on safari before) loved it. It really depends on the time of year as to whether you should go to this Park, Minneryia, or Kaudulla but I am happy everyone including our driver steered us into the right Park. Not disappointed. If you want to see some other wild animals than described above you should go to those bigger National Parks and try your luck, though in wet season you are not likely to see much plus parks like Minneryia get flooded and is unaccessible and also is more expensive. Btw - great time to visit is late afternoon like 3pm onwards so you can be in the park during sunset
