“Fantasy Island”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

We'd heard about Peat's Bite and managed to get a cancellation whilst holidaying in The Hawkesbury. We anchored our chartered boat outside the restaurant and were picked up by a jolly bloke just after midday and taken to the door by tinnie. When I say door, I mean little marina that leads to a little wooden bridge over to a beautiful tropical garden with a large pavilion style building set for lunch for around 100 covers. We were immediately greeted with a rum based cocktail and the kids ran off to play with the giant chess set and waterside swimming pool. We then spent the next 6 hours! being wined and dined and entertained the the grand matriarch with show tunes and warm interactions with the crowd. It's a set menu in a beyond beautiful location. The staff are exemplary and the whole experience is like a surreal and lovely dream. The food was very good, not mind-blowing, but the warmth of the family that run the place and the setting more than make up of this. It's a little bit expensive; but then it's a very special place for special occasions. We all loved it.

“Hawkesbury Heaven”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Having not been to this restaurant for many years delighted to visit and find the majic of the place hasn't changed. If at all the food and wines are superior and nothing beats the atmospere and view.
Time goes so quicly here that an overnighter in the future is a good option.

Tammy's entertainment and well spaced dishes compliment the relaxed environ but make it hard heading back to the rat race !!

A truly unique timeless unforgettable experience !

“hard to get to, but worth the experience”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

We went up there with a group of about 18 on a few boats from Newport. About a hour trip to get there. On arrival Geoff (one of the owners, I think) came down and helped us tie up. We were served cocktails on the lawn by the water before eventually sitting down to a degustation menu. The food was very good as was the wine, but the real attraction is the location and the feel of the place. The guests are mainly boaties from what we saw on the day although I know there are seaplane and water taxi options. There is no need to get too dressed up but of course you can if you want to. We will definitely go back there. One tip though would be to check the weather to make sure its good boating conditions. Highly recommended for large groups but equally good for couples.

“Tempting to keep this a secret”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

I toyed with reviewing a different retaurant, as to be honest, one of the best things about this restaurant is that it is off the beaten path and not many people know about it. I had such an amazing time though, that they deserve all the recognition. Not only did I feel like James Bond arriving by boat (the only option to get there, other than seaplane!), but the location, food and service was outstanding! It is the perfect spot for a special occasion such as a wedding,a romantic dinner or a group of foodies. Bonne appetit!

“Not as good as the first time”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

There is a saying that you shouldnt go back to a place and try to have the same experience.

This was our second time we visted - the first we did it in style with a Sea Plane, this time we drove the hour out of Sydney and got the boat from Kangaroo Point near Broklyn.

First Tip; dont go on a sunday when there is going to be a public holiday the next day.

The venue was busy twice or three times the number of people from when we first visited.

My advice is - its too busy and they cant cope with the numbers. I know it should be relaxed and a chilled meal but having to wait 1 hour plus between the courses was rediculous.

Tanya - you really needed more staff and make sure the food comes out hot or together..

Second; when you are not native to the area you need better directions to punch into the GPS to find the private whalf.

Lastly; when I booked I asked fro a table in the gardens - we were told "no worries", that didnt happen when we arrived we were terrace next to the kitchen. Tip confirm where your table is going to be.

So although we wanted this to be as special as the first time we went - it wasnt. The number were to high and not enough staff.

Its still a fantasic spot and I respect there is a contradiction in what I am saying - but the owners cant just rest on their laurels and peoples memories........Hey ho
