“NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR THE RAT”
Reviewed September 26, 2008

My wife and myself stayed at this hotel from the 19th september for one week, the hotel is in a great location , with a great golf course next door, but there were a few problems. The hotel was full of german tourists who if you speak to them look at you as if you were from a different planet, there is no entertainment laid on at all, so in the evening after you had your dinner there was nothing to do at all. On our second night at the hotel we were woken at 4am by a large rat running across our bed and jumping onto the bed side cabinet, I went to reception and reported this to the night porter who told us to leave the room at once and gave us another room. At 8am I went to reception and asked what was going on as we had no clothes or washing gear as it was in the room together with the rat also I am diabetic and needed my insulin. I was told that the manager would be along to see us within the next ten minutes. At 9 a.m. my wife went back to reception and asked what was going on and also where was the manager. She was then told after a lot of discussion between the staff in spanish that the "rat was dead", we were then allowed to return to our room to collect our clothes only to find rat droppings in our clothes, shoes and my wifes handbag. Thirty six hours later we still had not seen the manager so my wife went to see him when he finally agreed to speak to her, she said we had a rat in our room to which he replied "yes I have called the pest control" she then asked if he had anything else to say he replied " I dont understand" she then pointed out that good manners would suggest he at least said sorry for what we had been through in his hotel he replied "Idont understand what you want me say" She then suggested he should try some decent customer relations he replied "Im sorry you feel this way" shrugged his shoulders and walked away. We never did get an apology from the manager or any member of staff. Perhaps it is normal practice at this hotel to share your room with a large rat.

We stayed at the Alhaurin golf resort for 2 nights 3 days.

The rooms were very clean and spacious, cleaned every day + fresh towels.

The restaurant was good with friendly staff, large selection of food on offer.

We mainly booked here for the golf that were on offer, we were not disappointed, the course were immaculate, quite a tough course. Fairways and greens top notch.

Extremely hilly, but there is buggies available for hire, there is a really friendly atmosphere on this course golfers and non - golfers alike.

We are going back again next year in March though as weather in February can be slightly cool and wet.

Great hotel if you want to get away from it all and have a relaxing time, the rooms were spotless, large bathrooms, 2 sinks. there were 4 people in our room and still plenty of room, never had a bed so big, (actually lost my husband in the bed). the pool area is great, pool not very big but big enough for a swim to cool off.

Food for breakfast was fruit, toast, pastries and full cooked if you wanted this, eveneing meal was buffet style and every night there was a different pasta dish, fish and meat dish, never had the same meal twice in a week, salads, pasta salads all laid out to help yourself to. I have a very fussy 11 year old and she tried everything, soup a couple of times a week on the menu.

Hotel reception were helpful in ordering taxi's. this hotel is remote and if you want a relaxing stay i can recommend this hotel.
we will be going back for sure

We booked our stay in Alhaurin golf Hotel through our travel agent, but pointing them to this hotel, after a research in Internet looking for a quite, small hotel for the 3 of us (a couple and a small girl of 2) later on 2 of our parents joined us.

To make the long short, I'd say that the hotel has nice and big rooms (I'd say even enormous, with two big beds in each one). it is small (38 rooms) and conviniently situated to reach most of the Costa del Sol in minutes, but without its massification. Staff is really friendly, always trying to help you out from reception to cleaning lady. So you may ask yourself why if everthing is so good, it gets a "neutral/average" qualification...well, it's easy: food.
Please take into account that this is a 4 start hotel, so if buffet service is offered you would expect something like standard english breakfast, a service of different juices, milk, butter, bread etc... in the morning, and a service of 5-6 starters, 5-6 main courses and 5-6 desserts for the evening.
For breakfast it's just in the line, offering just orange juice as juices, no live cook etc.. but in the evening buffet service is simply a disgrace, with salads only as starters and a fish, a meat and a pasta as main course. just a couple of deserts.
Adding 15€ each per night you can access a brilliant menu of many different choices, very well cook, so the problem is just in the buffeet, but when you go for 13 days like we did, you really need this fixed.
I talked to the manager and that was inmediately fixed, but only for us, not for everybody. We had a "reduced menu" of 4 starters, 4 main courses and 4 desserts, served on the table, that was delicius.
So, all in all, if the hotel fixes the buffet OR just remove it, and stick to their excellent menu it is a very good choice, otherwise, avoid half board, and the hotel would not deserve at all it's four stars.

  • Disliked — first nights of food. Afterwards was fixed specifically for us

We stayed here for a week at the end of April/start off May 2008, and it was really good. It is quiet (OK for us - a bit out of town and nowhere really to walk), the rooms are very big and spotless. The breakfast was very good - a buffet with food constantly replaced, and we could relax by the pool all day. The pool isn't suitable for unaccompanied small children as the shallow end is 1.3 metres deep, but the area around the hotel is good fo playing in. We hired a car, and had some difficulty finding the hotel as it is out of town, but got there after an hour and a half. A car is definitely a requirement for travelling around, and , although the drivers there are very patient and courteous, the roads are a litle scary (windy roads through mountains). Although the hotel is only half an hour from the coast, it's a completely different world without the in your face tourism.

This hotel is in a peaceful rural location. The accommodation is excellent the rooms are large & clean.
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and went out of their way to help the guests.
Reading previous reviews breakfast has been massively improved, during our stay there was plenty to eat & the trays were constantly replenished. Evening meal was ok, but for variety there is a lovely restaurant five minutes walk away up a small hill, called El Balcon well worth a visit!
The only downside is that the hotel is 3 kilometres from nearest town Alhaurin El Grande and the only way to get there (If you do not have a car) is by cab, there is no public transport. This costs between 7 - 8 euros each way, which we hadn't budgeted for.
Fuengirola is about 15 km and to get there you need cab to Alhaurin El Grande then bus, so beware of the address of the hotel it is some distance from Fuengirola.

  • Liked — Large clean room, with very comfortable bed.
  • Disliked — No public transport to nearest town Alhaurin El Grande, it is a long way from Fuengirola.

I am sure the hotel is good but the terrace restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Service was non-existent. We called in (a party of five) on a Sunday afternoon for drinks and a light meal. We waited for half an hour to get our drinks and a further 45 minutes to get the food we ordered. Other people were even served before us who arrived after us. No-one came to check if we wanted more drinks or anything else and we left soon after without leaving a tip (no-one was there anyway). They really should shake up their act here as it is a lovely spot to while away a pleasant couple of hours but not if you are thirsty !!!!!!!
