La Venta de los Morenos is a favourite with spanish families at weekends so if one does not want a long wait it is advisable to go early.
We used to go during the week after visiting Fuengirola market and Mijas but after having visited one weekend and tasted the lovely barbequed food we now always visit at weekends.
There are two terraces: one shaded for summer use; one in the open with sunshades to make the most of the winter sun; and a large restaurant which has a welcoming fire if it is cold in winter. It is too hot if one sits near the fire. If the weather is bad at weekends in winter it is advisable to phone to make sure it is open.
The service is not very good if it is crowded. They seem to make sure everyone has a main course and to leave those that arrived early waiting for desserts. We have gone to the nearby garage shop for an ice cream a few times!
The atmosphere at weekends is very Spanish and there are often large extended families present and one feels that one is truly in Spain. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. We like coming via the La Cala to Coin road but this summer the road was shut as was the one from La Cala to Mijas so we missed our customary Sunday lunch at Alharin el Grande. What we had instead was not as tasty and the place lacked the atmosphere of Los Morenos!
