“The place is made by great people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2014

My husband and I stayed in the camp for 3 nights last January. We met both Nick and Bobo, and I can say that both are very nice people and made us feel very comfort and welcomed. Nick helped a lot since the beginning, he is very patient and answered all my questions and doubts.
The place is amazing, for me, it was the best way to go to the desert, the staff is very helpful, the food is really good, but the best part is absolutely those who are part of the place, and it includes Messi (Bobo's adorable dog) - they make the experience unforgettable!

I strongly recommend the camp and would return!

The stay at Erg Chigaga was the highlight of my entire Morocco trip. It. Was. INCREDIBLE.
Nick was so helpful and accommodating, especially when 2 in our group needed to cancel last-minute due to health issues. He responds to email ridiculously quickly and will do his best to arrange a fantastic experience for you.
We had some difficulty transferring to the 4 x 4 (our drivers were an hour late picking us up, but we received no communication and were sort of stranded with luggage). Once they arrived, it was smooth sailing. We asked to stop for Berber headwraps, and our drivers were more than happy to oblige! Do this- it's part of the experience. The drive through the desert is, understandably, a little bumpy- definitely take dramamine if you get motion sickness!
Our tent (complete with en suite bathroom) was gorgeous. How they create such luxury in the middle of nowhere, I don't know. Heaters were set up for use during the cold desert nights- we even returned from the campfire to find hot water bottles in the bed. Toilet is manual flush and much more "civilized" than expected for the middle of the Sahara. Shower consists of a stool, a hot water bucket, and a bowl... which is really all you need! Although everyone in our group found it far too cold (Dec/Jan) to strip down past our long underwear. Bring baby wipes if you're coming during winter! Similarly, don't forget to bring a warm hat and several pairs of warm socks. I was surprised just how cold it ended up being.
Meals were multi-course, phenomenal, and even had plenty of vegetarian options for me! All food & drinks are included, and there's no dearth of alcohol. The Sahara isn't "dry" in that sense! After dinner, you'll be treated to music & dancing around the campfire.
From dromedary riding to sand-boarding on the dunes to just sitting under the stars, the whole camp is just an amazing experience. A definite must do.

Many many thanks for your lovely review. I must apologise though for the fact your drivers were one hour late. That is very unusual because normally they are so reliable. I wouldn't be surprised though if I passed on the wrong information to them - I don't have the message I sent them but it is so unusual I reckon on balance it was my fault. Sack the owner! Nick

The fun, enjoyment and sheer excitement of an Erg Chigaga experience are thanks to Nick’s superior organisational skills, Bobo’s innate knowledge and the wonderful sense of humour and wit of both.

There was a special ebb and flow to our days and nights, enhanced by the anticipation of the two day drive to camp, the lovely, lovely staff, the night-time campfire and musicians, and, if you are as lucky as we were, the other people - each night was one big, fun dinner party.

………. and the scenery – indescribable…….

Putting a time limit on your stay on Erg Chigaga and en-route to camp is self-defeating before you look at the activities on their website, match them with your own interests, chat with Nick and then decide.

Special thanks also to Aaba, who was so much more than just a driver – comedian, language teacher, facilitator, photo-bomber, cultural attaché, friend to all in every town along the way and all-round great guy.

My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and found the (LONG) trip from Marrakech to be a great start to a beautiful nature adventure.

Our arrival was anticipated at the camp and everything was in order upon our arrival. There was a tent with self-serve drinks and snacks as well as books and games. There was an area set aside with hammocks so you could sit back and enjoy a sandstorm or listen to the sounds of the sands shifting.

The tents were incredible- great private bathroom with buckets of water and room to shower and get ready. The bed was comfortable and having access to electricity was a great bonus.

The real amazing aspect of this camp was the food. MEALS WERE INCREDIBLE! By fare the best food I had in all of Morocco. Meals were served outdoors (except for the one day when there were some crazy sand storms!) with candle light. Let me say this: you will NEVER be hungry at Erg Chigaga. Free flowing beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were always available both at meals and throughout the day.

During the stay we went on a short dromedary ride in the desert but the ride was much too short. It would have been great to have a bit more of an adventure in the desert but I will say that having the place to ourselves was great.

I only wish the drive there wasn't so far cause it would have been great to spend more time at the site!

Note: the drive is on twisty winding roads so take some motion sickness medicine if you get car sick. Also note that you will be taken to a few tourist traps along the way for food/drink and some other goodies. Feel free to cut the trips short if need be by talking with your driver.

Room Tip: Get one of the private tents that are a small walk over a sand dune from the main part of the camp.

We chose Erg Chigaga Luxury Desert Camp for our honeymoon destination hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable experience, and we definitely got it. The service, from booking our trip, to the very last day with our driver Hicham taking us to our next destination, was impeccable. They gave us flexibility in our booking and payment arrangements. Everything was seamless, from pickup to meals to every single activity. I had planned a certain amount of days in Morocco, and John helped planned the perfect itinerary.

We experienced a bit of a sandstorm on our first day in the private camp, but they were able to accommodate the weather and still make it a lovely night for us. We were lucky to have the main camp to ourselves on the second, and it was just as wonderful as the private camp. Everyone who works at Erg Chigaga is extremely friendly and helpful, and we will especially never forget Bobo, his lovely wife, and our fantastic driver Hicham, who was with us from start to finish. Hicham had a great, positive attitude, and we were touched by his hospitality. He always had a smile on his face, even after a brief incident with the police for speeding (not his fault in our opinion - traffic was moving at that speed).

Food and accommodations were amazing, the view and environment was nothing like we've seen in our lives. Highly recommend this trip for the people, the experience, and the unforgettable scenery. My wife and I have traveled quite a bit before, and this trip was truly one of the most personal and unique experiences we have ever had.

From start to finish this was by far one of the most beautiful, luxurious, fun, well organised, humbling, exciting, adventurous and amazing experiences in all of our travels.

Nick and Bobo have created something very special and it is not to be missed on your trip to Morocco. We were always looked after and everyone went above and beyond expectations to a make us safe, comfortable and happy.

The food and drinks were delicious and plentiful. The bed was one of the best we have slept in and had such delicious linen. The camp was peaceful and exciting. The sunsets were breath taking and we wish we could have stayed for longer.

We must give so much appreciation to our amazing driver Mohamid. Not only was he just a wonderful character but the thing that most impressed me was how safe we felt driving with him. We are from Australia and are used to driving long distances on long roads, off and on road, through mountains and on tricky roads and Mohamid blew us away with his driving. He made us laugh and enlightened us along the way. I just can't explain enough how much greater the trip was because of him! Thank you! Being our 'driver' is an understatement.

This is a trip not to be missed, from being picked up to being dropped off in Marrakech we were blown away again and again and again!

Thank you Nick, Bobo and Mohamid for creating one of our favourite experiences we have ever had!

First of all: We were really impressed by Nick's service oriented, friendly, flexible and highly professional organisation!
Before we started our trip he immediately reacted to any question, wish, change or whatever it was with a very unusual swiftness, leaving us with the impression that nothing would pose a problem to him and that he was happy to cater for any needs we might have.
Lacen, our driver was at the pick-up place on time and we had a very pleasant journey to Kasbah Azul, where we spent the night (one of two places suggested by Nick).
Kasbah Azul was great - very nice rooms, even nicer hosts and phantastic food.
The next day we arrived at the camp - and were really impressed: it looks EXACTLY like the pictures shown on the website.
Bobo was there to greet us - a great guy! - and we had a wonderful first evening eating under the stars.
The second day we made the mistake to not follow Bobo's suggestions to make a trip one of the oases within the area but insisted on spending the day at the camp.
The early morning camel ride was still a bliss - but then it became swelteringly hot with a scorching wind blowing - too hot to read in the shadow; and of course you can't use the tents during the day....
So the next day we went to an oasis - and it was great. Ibrahim brought everything from carpets to tables, plates, glasses and cutlery and treated us to a great meal. The well was filled for the kids to splash about (and we went in as well). We had nice company as 4 other tourists came to the oasis as well.
After a great day at the oasis we went to the big dunes, did some sandboarding and enjoyed the sunset.
Another great dinner under the starts - and the next day we had to leave.
Lacen brought us back to Marrakesh - always stopping when we wanted to stop, pointing out interesting sites and with very indepth knowledge about his country being able to answer any question we had. We learned a lot!
Back in Marrakesh we had booked the villa with pool Nick offers on his website.
It's marvellous - we can highly recommend it!
Nick met us there - and since we did not book the "femme de menage" for breakfast, lunch and dinner but preferred to do our own meals, he had stocked the villa with food and drinks which would have be sufficient for a party of 10!
He was extremely helpful, is extremely nice and goes far out of the way to meet your needs and wishes. So if you book with him you will have the most pleasant experience ever!
