Hamada du Draa is literally at the end of the road, before one ventures into the Sahara sands. We spent two nights at the hotel and one at their desert bivouac. We were lucky enough to be the only guests at the bivouac, and the night in the desert with our Berber guide and driver was the most memorable time of our two-week Morocco visit. Hassan, owner of Hamada, is a charming host, and he has hired people from the nearby village for his staff at the hotel and as guides/drivers for the trips he arranges. Everything about our experience was in the spirit of the famous desert hospitality. Even the obligatory camel ride turned out to be a wonderfully memorable experience as we wandered down sand paths through a nearby walled settlement, past wheat harvesting. We enjoyed the company of those who took care of us--very pleasant, competent people with lifetimes in the desert to share. No obsequious waiters or overly gabby staff. We liked it all very much.
