Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

I cannot recommend this hotel enough it's away from the city enough that you can totally relax yet you are not too far away. Food Is fantastic and the staff really make you feel at home. The spa is great too didn't want to leave .

Have just returned from a 3 night mid-week break in the Fota Island Resort. We had a lovely break, Hotel decor was beautiful, bedroom were nicely decorated. The Staff were all very nice. Both my husband and I had treatments in the Spa which were really good. The hydrotherapy pool and leisure area were equally good. The breakfast was lovely with a great selection of fresh fruit. On the downside, my husband ordered the "home made pancakes with maple syrup" but when they arrived, we were horrified to find they were, what we suspected, of the bought-in variety and was served cold with a hard area in the centre which was inedible!. On the following morning, we observed a fellow diner sending hers back. We ate dinner in both and bar and Restaurant, both were lovely but very pricey.

We came here in winter but were lucky with weather. We stayed in the 3 bedroom lodges on the grounds - not in resort. This was good option as we have 3 kids. The palces are very modern and heating worked well. The 3rd bedroom was just a small room with single bed - so make sure you don't get surprised by this. The staff were very nice and helpful. We really enjoyed the different dining experiences in the resort. It was a great base to visit wildlife park, Cohb and Cork city.

Room Tip: If you go for 3 bedroom lodges - see if some have bigger 3rd bedroom (and not just small room with s...

Stayed here for a weekend in January. Slightly disappointed by the architecture of the building. On the resort website there is a picture of the clubhouse of the golf club which is misleading. The golf club is a much nice building than the hotel. They should be more honest!
The interior of the hotel is nicely decorated. Our room was spacious and the bed was HUGE. Breakfast was excellent. The Spa and swimming pool were pleasant. My girlfriend had a 90 minute treatment which she enjoyed. You need a car if you are to stay here. Its 20 minutes outside Cork. And finally, every staff member we met was very capable and of course extrememly friendly. The nice lady on reception let us check out a few hours later on Sunday because they were not busy that morning. A nice personal touch that you don't get everywhere.

Fantastic spa, friendly and helpful staff, lovely rooms and great restaurant and all located in the middle of some wonderful scenary and walks a perfect getaway :) Only downside is make sure you book restaurant and spa well in advance if its the weekend they tend to be very busy and the service is a bit slow in the bar for food during the daytime but would definitely return!

Thank you very much for your kind review. The staff take pride in providing a welcoming and personalised service to all guests to make sure their stay is as enjoyable as possible. The restaurants, bars and our world-class spa tend to be busy on the weekends indeed, therefore booking in advance is recommended.
We hope to welcome you again to Fota Island Resort soon.

I organized a group break to Fota in November 2012 with Kim in reservations. I had stayed in the hotel once before on a brief overnight. My requests were endless through spa bookings, rooming lists, dining bookings and av/private function room requirements. Kim was ever the professional and made the whole experience much easier on the chief organiser! We stayed in the self catering lodges, which are really beautiful. Immaculately kept, extremely well furnished and stocked - not to mention comfortable and wholly suited for our requirements. I have stayed in many self catering options around Ireland and abroad and these are right up there at the top. Every member of staff we encountered on our stay, was pleasant, engaging and made us all feel very welcome. We dined in a private room by way of a group afternoon tea which is a personal and group favourite. I always sample this when in different locations and this matched one of the top hotels in London, it was just superb. I can't thank the staff enough, most especially Kim for their help and kindness to us before and during their stay. This hotel is by far one of the best in Ireland and without a doubt worth a visit, I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others - and I know some of the group are already planning a return visit. Thank you all so much again!

I have stayed here previously and loved it. Unfortunitly this time i noticed that the hotel had lost its class. On arrival we noticed crowds of teenagers hanging around the bar area. It seemed like they were just out of the pool and were wearing shorts most of them seemed to not even be wearing shoes and had towels lying around everywhere. This seemed to continue around the hotel. Everyone seemed to be wearing casual tracksuits. We felt out of place as we had thought there was a little bit more expected in a 5 star hotel.

I was staying on a groupon deal as were most the people i would say. I had stayed before and the place just seemed to have more class.

Bar was lacking in service even though there did seem to be alot of staff and most people had to queue at the bar to get served. This hotel has went from a lovely 5 star hotel to a lot less. I don't see how anyone could rate this hotel 5 stars anymore.

Our room was nice and modern. Cobwebs on the roof a damp smell in bathroomthough.

There did not seem to be a manager managing staff only a blonde haired girl who seemed to be ran off her own feet.

We did not use leisure centre on this visit even though we had planned to use the spa as the pool was always full of loud young teenagers as was the bar all evening.

Don't think i would stay here again as i dosen't seem to have the elagance it had before. We even had to dress down for dinner as not to feel out of place not what i expected from a 5 star.... stayed from 06/01/12 to 08/01/12

Room Tip: Love the river lee hotel very close to Cork city

Thank you for feedback and we are sorry to learn that your recent stay did not reach your expectations. The group you mention above were an U-18’s group who were resident in the hotel. They travelled from a private school to attend a training camp on-site at our Sports Training facility. Service and customer care is of the utmost importance to us and we try to ensure that all guests are looked after as well as possible. We have taken your comments on-board and have passed your feedback onto our Heads of Departments for their attention. Our staff are always keen to ensure the guest experience is very enjoyable and memorable. We thank you for your feedback and hope you will return to us on another occasion to enjoy all that the Resort has to offer.
