“Amazing all around”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

Amazing restaurant! Food, service, and beer were all top notch. Some of the best food I've had in Austria in the last two years of frequent visits. Their beef is just wonderful, the carpaccio, tartare, and steaks are to die for. Even their simple dish of noodles and cabbage was beautifully executed. When we went they had a keg of Augustiner dark and white beer that was left over from the Munich Oktoberfest, and a lovely on tap Weiss beer that was one of the best in town. The waiters were great, spoke quite decent English. There was a live band as well that played really well and even though we were at the next table, it was a normal volume and we could still have a conversation about how good the beer and food was.

“The schnitzel was ordinary”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Just arrived in Bad Ischl and was starving so popped into here for a schnitzel. The athmosphere was very nice with the staff friendly and in traditional Austrian dress.

I grabbed a meat based soup for starters as I was famished and it was very good so was expecting a pretty good veal schnitzel which was 15 euro.

Unfortunately it was a disappointment. Since this is my first try of a schntzel in Austria I have little to compare it to, all I can say is that compared to the one I make myself at home it was very plain, and much too salty. The cranberry sauce on the side also I don't think goes well with veal. The accompaniment of parsley potatoes was also ordinary and tasteless.

The atmosphere means this place is worth a visit to perhaps try something other than the schnitzel.

“The Heart of Bad Ischl”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is such a quaint setting in the center of a gorgeous little town. Ate here recently with a large party and it was a great way to experience the tastes and culture of Austria. The waitresses were dressed in traditional 'dirndl' dresses which were beautiful. On the table in lieu of a bread basket was a wooden tree holding several soft pretzels. The most notable dish was the traditional Fritatten or pancake soup. Warm and welcoming - highly recommend.

“Tradition in the centre of Bad Ischl”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

At last---- just the thing Bad Ischl has needed. A traditional style bar/restaurant serving both Augustiner Brau and Trumer Pils. The Augustiner straight from the cask in the traditional way. Local musicians just as you would find in a mountain hutte and although we were sitting on the next table we were still able to converse. The food was fantastic. We had the special that evening---a grostl with black pudding and a side order of saurkraut. Absolutely delicious. The staff were attentive and the locals made us very welcome. Of course next door is the KuK Hofbeisl which does have loud music---perhaps the previous reviewer was seated there.
