“Good Food, Good Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2012

Four of us ate at Los Pompanos and despite the restaurant being full we had great food and good service. The seafood soup and fish dishes were excellent. The waiters were run off their feet catering to two busloads of tourists and yet we were well taken care of. We have eaten here many times and it is has been very consistent in its quality and service for years.

“Lunch in Celestun”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2011

We picked this restaurant because it was recommended by the LonelyPlanet and also had a good review in TripAdvisor. Unfortunately we were very unsatisfied and would not recommend this restaurant to anybody else. My dish arrived so late that my brother had already finished his. Neither his nor mine were very tasteful. I ordered the stuffed fish filet, tried a some bites and decided to rather eat some cookies from the supermarket later. We were bothered every 5 min. by street vendors trying to sell sweets, hamacas or DVDs. The whole time a dog was running around our table. The waiter managed to serve us without saying a word the whole time.

“Amazing blue crab....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2010

This is a seafood joint on the beach, apparently run by someone who has two restaurants in Celestun and one elsewhere near Merida. They're slightly further along Calle 12 than some of the other restaurants, so I can see how day trippers might miss out. Don't! Keep walking until you come to this one, because we had one of the best (barefoot and beer-style, not white tablecloth-style) meals ever here. They basically do seafood, seafood and more seafood, but it is all fresh off the fishing boats. We had a plate of blue crab meat sauteed in butter and garlic, served with handmade tortillas and fresh avocado that was just delicious. My husband also had a 1/2 kilo of stone crab, fresh off the boat, which was plain but very good. And quesadillas for the kids, who aren't so into seafood. They've got tables right on the beach to take in the scene or the sunset, and also some tucked further back if you are there when the winds pick up in the late afternoon/early evening (winter months). Very friendly host. Highly recommended!
