This restaurant has got very good marks on Tripadvisor but did not life up to our expectations. The recommended Filet de Boef Rossini and the lamb were not available. The entrecote was non-tender and served without baked potatoes as given on the menu.
The red wine gave no applause and the creme de caramel was a distinct disappointment.
Perhaps the restaurant is out of season in the end of September as well as Agde as a whole.

We are a family of 6 (2 adults, 4 children of various age) who eat out fairly often at home or when abroad. Our criteria when rating a place is simple: could we do equal or better ourselves and would we return. Having been somewhat underwhelmed with the resort restaurants, we decided to try Le Don Camillo after reading the excellent reviews.

It’s located on the back streets, some of which are one-way (we used SatNav); parking is somewhat restricted.

Our first visit was on a Tuesday and we had the place to ourselves. The initial greeting was a little awkward as our French is poor and the lady who greeted us spoke little English. However, the owners appeared, both of whom speak English (husband is fluent) and were very welcoming.

The menu seemed a little limited compared to UK, but we found this fairly common in France. There are a handful of imaginative meat dishes (including several steaks – but no chicken), various salads and dozens of different pizzas. There’s also a children’s option of pizza or chicken, a drink and ice cream.

Everyone had pizza and we all agreed that it was amongst the best pizza we had ever eaten; a thin base, with fresh toppings all cooked in a wood fired oven – they were truly superb. The equally delicious homemade desserts were original, creative and delightfully presented. Normally I leave desserts to the girls (having an annoying pick at theirs) but I actually found myself looking forward to eating one myself. Our only criticism was that the coffee was a bit small and bland – but we’re being picky!

We enjoyed ourselves so much we returned on the Friday. It was much busier and we were seated upstairs on the mezzanine floor. This time we had the fillet steak which was very tender and succulent (French steaks are cooked much rarer, suggest you ask for well done for UK medium). Again, the desserts were amazing.

As for price, it’s between £8-13 for a pizza, steaks are approx £20 and kids meal £8. Desserts about £5. Drinks, like everywhere, were a bit pricey but there is an endless supply of table water. The service was superb on both visits.

This is more of a ‘locals’ restaurant and is much, much better than the overpriced, overcrowded holiday restaurants. My suggestion is give it a go –you won’t be disappointed.

We all fancied a change from the standard fare of fish/seafood/steak, and the plaintive demand for Italian food couldn't be ignored. We are struggling a bit with restaurants in Agde purely from the 'sameness' perspective and were pleased to find a coup,e of reviews of this place. Tucked away about 100metres from the river, Don Camillo is an unprepossessing establishment that you might not notice. However, what you can see is the wood fired oven blazing away,... We had reserved a table just in case, but it was not busy. There is an upstairs section as well. But the place is not enormous. We had hoped that there would be pasta as well as pizza dishes, but there was mainly pizza and meat dishes - steak, lamb chops and so on, with the benefit if them all being cooked in the wood fired oven. Two of our party shared one of the main course salads for a starter - the Baltique, which was covered in smoked salmon and slices of bread with lumpfish roe and declared it delicious. My partner had the oven baked Camembert with bread to dip into the goo (he should have used the special spoon, but hey!) and I shared the antipasti with my son which is basically what they have in stock that day. This was the least impressive of the entrees but was fine, 4 slices of chorizo, a lovely side salad, 4 pieces of bread with an onion confit on two and fresh salsa on the others. For mains we all had pizza which frankly was divine. Paper thin crust, freshly cooked and gorgeous toppings. It was a real treat to eat, and it's not often that one can call pizza that. We had some desserts which were fine, cafe liegois, moelleux de chocolat which I kept dipping into from my sons plate and a charming fruit salad. Being the Languedoc the wines on offer were mainly rose and red, but Madame the proprietor found some drinkable white for us which is our preference. Te coup,e of other clients who came in were locals, and I can't honestly say I blame them. A nice little find and I high,y recommend it.

This is a small restaurant/brasserie with wood fire oven. From the outside i would not have choosen it, but after reading about it on Tripadvisor and eating there, i can recommend it.

The food (Filet Boef Rossini) and kids menus, where well prepared and tender meat.

We visited here in September 2012 on the recommendation of an Agde local. It seems to be very popular as we didn't get a table the first night but booked for the following night. Don't be fooled by the label "Pizzeria" on the sign as there is much more to this place than just pizza. Of course their pizza are very good indeed, they have a proper wood fired oven, but the best thing we had was the "Skewer of Beef" which seemed to be also done in the pizza oven and was just amazing! Anyone who likes steak will love it. On top of that the decor and atmosphere is low key and cozy, and the staff can speak good english and are very welcoming. We liked the place so much that we wanted to come again on our last night in Agde only to find out that they are closed on Monday.

Summary: great for the pizza but even better for the grills. An Agde must!
