MGM as the name suggests is a grand hotel by the group in Macau. It has a grand entrance with very nice staff and well appointed rooms. The pool is just perfect and the spa is great. It has a very nice shopping area with all the luxury brands in it. Very nice casino as well.

Room Tip: One can take a suite on higher floor

After a 15 hr flight from north America we were tired to say the least but the mgm Macau took good care of us, after a long shower and a 4 hour power nap we were ready to go and MGM made a great base to explore from took in lots of sights and went to the am ma temple and many of the Major casinos. all in all a great palce to stay.

Room Tip: get a good casino host that knows what you want to help determine a good room for you.

Though we had stayed in other hotels in Macau earlier, this time we chose MGM Grand hotel.
The hotel is located in Macau island. Chic & Elegant. Nicely decorated rooms with soft beds. The shower & bath room was designed in classical style with the barh tub with its English looks was big & nice.
We stayed in the sea facing room which in the night offered excellent views of the bridges over the water.
The hotel is adjoined to the Central Shopping Mall. Unlike some hotels in Taipo, this one is not so crowded. Hence its a nice shopping experience.
The hotel shuttle buses to Taipo area (where other attractions like the Dancing Waters show happen)
is not so frequent. Taxi is fine but we couldn't wait for the govt Taxis & had to take the hotel's taxi which costef us 170HKD. So if u r planning to visit City of Dreams or The Venetian Macau hotel then plan ur start accordingly. Surprisingly the firat hotel shuttle bus from the Ferry terminal starts at 11am only. And frequency is not so good. Perhaps a sign of not enough customer but not sure.
The 'Aurora' design in the lobby was fabulous with the six meter aquarium & the decorations appealing so much. Both the day & the night view are good. The previous one had the butterfly park. Very unique & soothing.
Wi-fi was free & excellent speed.
The receptionists were courteous but we felt they were falling short of professional experience. All of them speak good english.
We had lunch at Rossio once. Good but not great. The MGM boutique patiserrie sells Mariage Freres, Tea Forte kind of brands. The elegant grand lobby is another cynosure. Over all a nice experience.

Just stayed there over the weekend. The overall experience exceeded my expectation as a regular Vegas goer I wasn't prepared for this MGM to be so trendy and stylish. The renowned buffet looked awesome (dinner) but I wasn't able to get in as it was fully booked. The french restaurant was a delight and all the service staff was very friendly and courteous with genuine smiles.

Only one thing to be aware of is the phone charger that requires an English-style (or HK) three-prone adaptor, which one of my friends didn't have, who was asked by the front desk to either enrolling in the casino play membership or get a room so that they could offer the convenience of charging his iPhone for him in the Lobby (he came by to meet me for dinner)...

The breakfast buffet was amazing! There was maybe more than 30 different kinds of food!
The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and very quiet--despite being close to the road.
The staff was very friendly too.

There are two Macau, the one with a busy street life where restaurants, banks, pawnshops, street vendors, as well as some new and almost all the old casinos congregate, and there is Cotai, 15 minutes by car across one of the bridges, where the mega casino resorts a la Las Vegas strut their stuff. Cotai is almost completely devoid of pedestrian traffic, unless you go into Taipa, a small town nearby. Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas mogul of Venetian fame, has been the prime mover of Cotai. Therefore it's not surprising that one of the first major casino developments there was a Las Vegas Venetian clone only three times larger. Cotai was created from nearly nothing less than a decade ago, but it already has become the crown jewel of gambling and tourist destination in Macau.

Even though transportation between old Macau and Cotai is easy by means of taxis, that are inexpensive and abundant, and will be easier when the light rail system is completed, it is not something one should contemplate by foot. So there is always a dilemma when visiting Macau for the first time and for a short time, staying in old Macau to take in the native Chinese casino scene and city life, or staying in Cotai for a Las Vegas in China experience? If you can't decide then MGM Macau is a place for you.

MGM is a mid-size casino resort by Macau's standard. And that's part of the charm because one will not get lost in it. Furthermore, the property is cleverly divided into two distinct quarters, the casino and the hotel. You can be in one without knowing there is the other. The common area is the Grande Praca, built like an undersea plaza, featuring multi-color corals and hanging sculptures of thousand-fish, that provides convenient access between the casino and the hotel.

The casino resort is located by the waterfront away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but close enough for getting there by foot. It is also adjacent to One Central, the premier high end shopping mall in Macau, that makes it convenient to satisfy your conspicuous consumption needs. Like most casinos in Macau, the choice for western restaurants is limited, but McDonald's is just across the street. So there is always a backup. There are also some bars nearby that are a little more kind to your wallets than those in the hotel.

Every thing about MGM Macau is immaculate and luxurious - the lobby, the room, the bed, and the bathroom. And the service is world-class. You can't find more plush accommodations in the same price range in Cotai or anywhere in Macau. Furthermore, if you get an ocean view room, you will have Cotai and its mammoth casinos within sight.

I do have one issue. Watch out for the shower curtain that’s controlled by a switch outside of the bathroom. While you are taking a shower, someone outside, not you, can open the curtain, and expose you for everyone in the room to see because the glass shower wall is the only barrier separating the shower from the bedroom. And the glass is clearly transparent. I always wonder the purpose of that design because I have seen a similar setup in a 5-star hotel in Shanghai. Is it for a shower show?
