“Rio hotel - very comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2009

We stayed 2 nights here and were very pleased with the hotel. We had a huge room (supposed to be "standard") with high quality fixtures and bedding. Tea making facilities provided. There is an extensive choice at buffet breakfast. There is a good sized pool (open sides but covered roof) at the top of the hotel and a small gym.

It's near the ferry terminal and close enough to walk to Fishermen's Wharf which is a sort of theme park with European style buildings and restaurants and shops. There are also plenty of cheaper Macao/Portuguese restaurants nearby if you think the hotel is a bit expensive. We did not use the Casino but it's not intrusive unlike some of the ones in Las Vegas.

Internet was very expensive (so often is in hotels - why?) and we used an internet cafe in the town instead. The main drawback is that it's quite a long walk from here to the historic centre of Macau but taxis and buses are cheap.

We really enjoyed Macao and loved its European/Chinese fusion both culturally and culinary. We also found it very cheap for local shopping when compared with mainland China and in particular Hong Kong. It seemed very safe and easy to get around in

Good location, convenient airport coach pickup, clean interiors, very spacious rooms, great value for the price, book the ferry + hotel package at the Hongkong ferry pier - amazing deals. Beyond my expectations for the price, wasn't expecting something half as nice. Macau's OK for the casino buffs, the Portugese history and culture bit is overhyped - disappointing after doing Europe's cobblestoned historic cities and amazing medieval architecture. Let's just say Macau's historic areas are OK for those people who will never have the chance to do the real thing in Europe. Go for the casinos and over-the-top opulence, it's the third best after Vegas and Suncity - Johhanesburg..

My husband had a 3 day confrence in macau. and they put us up in this hotel.
Not at all impressive.from the check in the staff was very off handish, concidering there were at least 20 rooms booked with the conference they should have given us service with a smile.
rooms were small and poky. bathroom was small. It looked untidy when we first walked into our rooms. the rooms faced the back of ugly rundown buildings. we were on a higher
floor but horrible view.I kept my curtains drawn all the time.
the casino was the worst i have been to. there are such good casinos around dont waste your time at this smalll poky unpleasent hotel.
we asked for two key cards as my husband was at he hotel for the conference and i wanted to go out to explore the ciy and shop...they gave him one more warning us that they would charge us 200hkd if we lost it!! weird ,most hotels give you two without asking.
we stayed at the lisboa last time and it was far better.
we ate at the coffee shop which is run down dirty and you wish you hadnt stepped into this place.there is no proper english speaking staff, the taxi driers speak and understand you better. i would not recomend this hotel to anyone.
there are much nicer places and better casinos to stay at.
and the cherry on he cake !! the spa is only for men!! no ladies allowed,
