I stayed at the hotel with my girlfriend and we liked it a LOT. The room is bright, fairly big (@36m^2), a large bathroom with separate bathtub and rain-forest shower, and there was a LCD TV situated at the end of bathtub, which you can watch your own DVD (insert your DVD in the DVD player under the big TV in your room, then change your bathroom TV channel to AV). We had a complimentary cake delivered to our room at our own chosen time because it was my girlfriend's birthday. Service is excellent, and they are really good in English as well. The room service is outstanding, only around 120 HKD and we had a huge disc of fried rice (which was enough for both me and my girlfriend!) with many breads (probably 6-8). The price is very very low, if you booked it through the travel agencies in Hong Kong. Overall, I was really satisfied with the hotel and will definitely go back for a second time.

(I signed up just to recommend how great this hotel is)

However, on the down side, the casino isn't really good, as it was filled with smokers. But there are loads of casinos in macau, so you can play in other casinos easily as taxi in macau is really cheap

First visit to Macau in June - fairly warm. Staff could not do enough and we had a great time visiting many museums in the am with some R&R in the pm prior to kicking on at night. Concierge got best seats in the house for Circus Solie show at the Venetian. Back in Nov for the Grand Prix (formula 3000) staff fell over backward when they saw us back again - organised a complmentary birthday cake! Cooler now so we enjoyed hoofing around to places we didn't see last time taking in the culture & architecture (Portugese)

Stayed at a non-smoking floor but since 99% of guests are Chinese smokers, I ended up with that reeky smell all the same. I tried to get rid of the cold smoke odor by opening the window, only to find out that the air-cond system does not work. I still don't understand why supposedly high-class hotels can't let you choose the temperature in your room. I was told it was set by the central aircond system at 20 degrees but mine was more like 30 degrees-- sauna-like. Bottomline : I didn't sleep.

Its typical chintzy Macau, huge globe hanging over the entrance, lots of marble etc. Everything about this hotel is Large. Location is on the waterfront and I would recommend paying extra for a sea view. Its within walking distance of that famous restaurant ..that I cannot remember the name of. Rooms are big, bed is big, TV is big, windows are big- we had a standard or lux room I think, not a suite anyway

We stayed at the Sofitel at Ponte 16 for the weekend as the boys were heading to Zhuhai for a shooting trip. The Sofitel is a beautiful hotel with decent sized rooms even from the entry level. It is also very well placed for the sights of Macau, being a short taxi ride form the Chinese border and a 15 minute walk from Macau's old town and central shopping area. This gives it a distinct advantage over the hotels on the Cotai Strip for anyone that might want to experience a bit of culture.

What let this hotel down slightly was the service. The staff seem too tied to rules/ policy than treating the guests in the best way possible. For example, there is a lack of seating in the lobby near the reception desk. When we were checking out it took a long time for the bellhops to retrieve our friends' bags, and as there was no seating nearby they sat on a ledge. A security guard told them to get off the ledge, even though my friend's wife is clearly pregnant and the other guests were not giving up their seats on the other side of the lobby. In addition, the ladies with us were told not to 'steal' a copy of the Macau Air magazine placed on display in the lobby which contained a helpful review of a local bar which we wanted to try. What was the point in having it there at all? And bear in mind that the Macau Air magazine is free.

In short, a lovely hotel and a great option for a weekend in Macau, but the staff need to concentrate on ocustomer service, rather than following the procedures they have been told (although that can be a problem in a lot of hotels in Greater China).

My husband and I have stayed twice at this hotel, during Valentine's Day weekend in 2009 and again for New Year's Eve 2010. Each time we stayed several nights over a long weekend. The main benefit for us is the location. The hotel is walking distance to many of the key cultural sites in Macau and since getting a taxi there has become quite difficult, the ability to walk places we want to visit is very valuable.

But there are many hotels in the downtown. We returned (and will be back) because there are many other reasons to like this hotel. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the service is good, the toiletries are by L'Occitane which has fantastic products and they have a great fitness center with a sauna and steam room (a great way to sweat out some of the toxins from Macau's great food and wine options).

I suggest asking for a city view room. They are cheaper than the river view rooms but so much more fun, especially from a high floor. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer fantastic views of downtown Macau, it's like having a photograph of the city outside your window.

The only negative thing about this hotel is the sad fact that the pool is not heated so it is unusable for much of the year, especially at the times of year when we visit Macau regularly. And even in summer, it's not that useful because it's quite small. If you are visiting Macau for a pool and spa oriented weekend, the Westin might be a better option. But the Westin is very far from downtown Macau, getting in and out is a pain and the Westin is really boring otherwise.

The hotel is also stingy with upgrades to the club floor, it's quite expensive, and if you book through an online agent, they won't give you loyalty points even to existing members of the hotel's program, which I find kind of petty. But in general, this is a very good hotel in a great location, and we will happily return in the future.

Stayed at Macau Sofitel in Feb 2010 for 3 nights - our first stop on 10 night Macau/Hongkong holiday. Sofitel Macau was fantastic - beautiful room - luxurious marble theme, not overdone, just exudes luxury. Bed was great - the chocolate special was to die for!!! jet lagged eating chocolate treats at 4am - watching the night lights and dawn rise while lying in the bath - through the glass wall of the beautiful bathroom, through to the river views and border with China from our huge glass windows.

The Hotel casino is unobtrusive - would not even know it was there unless specifically go looking for it. Service in the Hotel is great - from the moment you arrive.
Free Hotel pick up mini bus at the ferry terminal is excellent and easy to find.

Only pay for standard fare on ferry to Macau from HongKong airport - No need to go through immigration at Hongkong airport - ferry operator will collect your luggage off the airline carousel and put bags on ferry - you collect them on the other side at Macau- scary I know - we were not sure if should trust our bags this way - however No problems occured. You can of course take your own bags but you would need to go through immigration at Hongkong airport to do this.

The Hotel position directly over the road from the old city makes walking the old city easy - a few hours walking the fantastic old streets and back alleys - back to the hotel for a rest - back into the chaos that is Macau, then home again for a rest before
heading back out again!!! PS - walking is great, taxis are cheap, portugese tarts are fantastic!!
