Stayed at Macau Sofitel in Feb 2010 for 3 nights - our first stop on 10 night Macau/Hongkong holiday. Sofitel Macau was fantastic - beautiful room - luxurious marble theme, not overdone, just exudes luxury. Bed was great - the chocolate special was to die for!!! jet lagged eating chocolate treats at 4am - watching the night lights and dawn rise while lying in the bath - through the glass wall of the beautiful bathroom, through to the river views and border with China from our huge glass windows.

The Hotel casino is unobtrusive - would not even know it was there unless specifically go looking for it. Service in the Hotel is great - from the moment you arrive.
Free Hotel pick up mini bus at the ferry terminal is excellent and easy to find.

Only pay for standard fare on ferry to Macau from HongKong airport - No need to go through immigration at Hongkong airport - ferry operator will collect your luggage off the airline carousel and put bags on ferry - you collect them on the other side at Macau- scary I know - we were not sure if should trust our bags this way - however No problems occured. You can of course take your own bags but you would need to go through immigration at Hongkong airport to do this.

The Hotel position directly over the road from the old city makes walking the old city easy - a few hours walking the fantastic old streets and back alleys - back to the hotel for a rest - back into the chaos that is Macau, then home again for a rest before
heading back out again!!! PS - walking is great, taxis are cheap, portugese tarts are fantastic!!

We stayed at Ponte 16 during the Lunar New Year, 3 nights. Everything started as early as when we made our booking, which was almost a month before. The Reservation Concierge sent us a form to fill-up, which varies from type of pillows prefered, to any needed reservations that they may help with, and other services. This shows how serious the Hotel is in making sure of a wonderful stay.

The lobby was the typical large ones you'd find in asian hotels. We were greeted at the airport and brought to the hotel via S-class which the hotel have arranged for us. The front desk staff were very hospitable and nice. Immediately provided is a Map and a Guide Book covering the 3 major islands of Macau, which is of great help. The only thing is, there are a lot of smokers, which makes it also not wise to stay in the lobby long. With one of the Casino entrances just near the lift lobby, you can find some smokers there waiting for their friends / families before going in. Good point though, you would see time to time a hotel staff cleaning and wiping here and there, was quite often actually.

The room we got was a 14th (1413) floor Luxury Room facing the Inner Harbour, where you can have a view of the pool, and mainland China just across the harbour. The city view was all lights, so we prefered to have a nice serene view. The room itself was very spacious. The bed was large, very comfortable, and with the earlier pillow selection it made everything even more comfy. The bathroom was big as well, a bathtub with it's own LCD TV mounted on the wall, and at the side - a powered roman-type curtain which makes the room and the bathroom only separated by a glass pane. The shower and the toilet itself were separated within. And no less, Sofitel provides L'Occitane as standard toiletries. I've read some problems about the TV remote in the bathroom, but for us, we didn't find any issues with this.
Room Service - I think is being done twice in a day, with the morning fix-up, and the afternoon prepping the room for sleep time, the bed ready with the covers off, and ice provided in case needed for the night. The staf are indeed friendly, you get a nice greeting with a smile wherever / whenever you bump into them.

The location of the hotel is Supeb ! Within a 20 minute walk, you would have covered a lot of historic and tourist areas, major of course is the Senado square and the area of MGM / Grand Lisboa / Wynns. The only thing you have to consider for transport is when going to the the Cotai Strip or Taipa.

I'd recommend a lot of walking, as it is the best way to get around Macau, as well as being -able to try out hole-in-the-wall type of eating places, yummy !

Overall, Ponte 16 is highly-recommend for staying in Macau. Truly a Magnifique Experience !

Stayed at the Sofitel for 2 nights during the week preceding the Lunar New Year. As an A-Club platinum member we got upgraded to the Sofitel Executive Club floor and this is definitely worth it. The design of the Club lounge and the rooms was much more muted and elegant than the garish lobby and entrance to the hotel. These actually look quite tacky, but luckily things change when you get to the club floor and the rooms. It is worth noting that the club floor (17th floor) has smoking rooms only, but the the 16th floor also has the executive rooms and has non-smoking rooms so we requested to move there.

The room was large and ours (1621) overlooked the Inner Harbour and mainland China, whilst from the lounge you can see the city so we had the best of both worlds. The bed was absolutely huge and comfortable, and the bathroom was also very clean, stylish and with separate bath and shower.

The location of the Sofitel is great as you can walk to all the major historical sites and also the casinos (e.g. Wynn, MGM, Grand Casino etc). And getting to the Venetian etc is also easy with a taxi. When at the Venetian I recommend also catching the Cirque du Soleil show there if you get a chance.

Anyhow, if you are looking for a good place to stay in Macau we would definitely recommend the Sofitel.

Choosing a downtown hotel was excruciating for us because you do find more economical hotels with the typical 'free' breakfast or shuttle and other perks but again, we can't compromise on the NO SMOKING room and in Asia, this is hit & miss plus the hope of having English speaking staff is always priority for us as well. So, we chose Sofitel for location, cost benefit and of course for service.

We lucked out once again when we found a website special from Sofitel about a stay 2 nights and get 3 night free and a complimentary chocolate treat. This spoke to us for sure. We were thinking initially of going for MGM but it was not any closer to the places we want to be in and Sofitel, being close to the harbour is actually a better start off point for our Walking Tour. Our hotel booking allowed us to eat complimenary breakfast buffet and hands down, their food served at the Mistral Restaurant was way better than the one we had at Cafe Deco at the Venetian. The selection, although much limited - were still relatively better as I think the quality was nicer and to some extent, fresher.

It would have been nicer though if we are able to utilize the amenities like their swimming pool but I think there was not a heater on it so at 16C they can't operate that. Too bad! :( The people who work in Sofitel are very polite and helpful - from the bell man to the housekeeping as they try to help you in every way they can.

It's true though that there are limited restaurant service in the hotel. But seriously, you are probably about 10 minutes away from the Largo de Senado (Senado Square) so for some people to complain about that is a bit ridiculous - I guess unless someone is on business and can't be bothered to get out of the hotel. There are tons of local cuisine in the area and just a quick stroll is all one needs to find the 'treasures' and treats of good food.

Sofitel is luxe - it has L'Occitane for toiletries and contrary to someone who wrote a review that it was not replenished - I will disagree as for the 3 nights we were there, we had new toiletries every single day.

We loved Sofitel because of the people who worked the extra mile for us. A simple thank you and smile goes a long way, you know. All throughout the time we were there, up to the time we left - we can't be more pleased. It's not Wynn by no means but Sofitel at Macau provided just the right type of service, amenities and warmth for guests like us.

We traveled to Sydney, Macau, Hong Kong, Penang & Melaka in Jan/ Feb this year and this was the start of the overseas section of our travels.
We booked a Luxury Room Club Sofitel and we couldn't be more impressed, value for money it as the best place we stayed in during our holiday.
The room was excellent with a great view over the historic section. We chose to stay here because we aren't into casino's (although this is a casino but not situated with the other casino's) and the hotel is well positioned for visiting the historic sights.
Breakfast was included and nice enough but we didn't eat other meals at the hotel as there is enough street food close by.
A special mention needs to be made about the staff, especially Kathy in the Club Sofitel section and Raul in the Rendezvous Bar who made some of the best cocktails of the trip and when asked made good suggestions for restaurants and bars in Macau outside of the hotel.
