My initial response when I saw this hotel from outside? Hmmm...small compared to the more luxurious hotels in Macau.

When I entered and saw our room?

WOW!

Unbelievable taste and style - lavishly decorated in the old Victorian era. Even the wallpaper, the paintings, the furnishing and even the ulities used are all in sync with their whole theme. I absolutely loved the bathroom! They also offer complete set of ammenties - everything a backpacker would need. The tub was beautiful...so beautiful in fact that I couldn't resist to have a hot soak using the bath salt they generously provided. Try to ask for your room to be made up and you'll find all your ammenities replaced and in full even if you've only consumed maybe half a bottle of whatever bathing soap you used up. From the outside of the hotel it would be hard to imagine that inside the room it would feel like you're inside a 5-star hotel when in fact this hotel is mostly recognized as an "inn". Staying here, my partner and I found it hard to leave the room and venture the city as the sheets and linen are oh-so-good to the touch. Everything smelled and felt fresh and sleeping on the bed feels like lying on a soft white cloud. The bathroom also has these venetian-style blinds that you can slide so you can see the room. Nice way to always be in sight of your loved ones even they are busy inside the bathroom =) Let me not forget the balcony - it was gorgeous! Small but with enough space for two people to sit, enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the breath-taking view of Macau's sea side. At night it also gives you the view of Macau's bridge in its glorious illumination.

The hotel does not have a swimming pool - but who wants to have a swim when you can just soak in the tub or take a stroll along Fisherman's Wharf? The hotel is situated perfectly - once Fisherman's Wharf officially opens it will be marked as a hot spot; but now this hotel is not commonly known amongst most people (and even the taxi drivers) - so if you cannot speak Chinese then best to write the name of the hotel down on a piece of paper to ensure that your driver would drop you off the right place. It is also very near to some of the big casinos and we found it convenient to hop from one casino to the next. Also, because it's right along the sea side, you can always feel the cool breeze on your face and hair. On top of that, the location of this hotel is PERFECT for those who wish to go to HK for a day-tour since it's so close to the ferry. We literally walked to HK from Macau, took us only 15-20 mins of walking to reach the ferry going straight to HK.

The downside - #1: Macau is mostly a Chinese-speaking country; that goes to say that their staff are also Chinese-speaking. We found it to be such a challenge to ask for simple directions or help from the reception, even the room service. If you don't speak Chinese, expect this to pose a problem to you. There were only about 1 or 2 staff that we remembered who can converse in english. #2: As I've mentioned earlier, the hotel is not that popular so it's hard to go back this hotel especially if you're travelling by taxi. Take note of my tip to write the name and address of the hotel in a piece of paper - another easy way is to say the name of this casino: BABYLON, as it is located right beside the hotel. #3: The breakfast buffet is the same menu in all 4 days we spent in Macau - not much for variety, I can say. Wish they had more restaurants inside or nearby the area.

All in all, truly a gem. Worth every penny and all the memories =)

We stayed 2 nights in April 2009. Our Deluxe room with a sea/harbour view was delightful. Plenty of room, really clean, nicely furnished with balcony and outside furniture. The bathroom was large, with bath and separate shower. Great fittings, nice towels, robes and a full range of accessories. The bed was not ‘Thailand’ hard but firm and very nice linen. A/C worked well. We ate several meals in the hotel and I think they were just OK. The style and class of this hotel deserves a better restaurant and the staff are rather surly. The hotel is situated at the end of Fisherman's Wharf. This is a touristy area of expensive shops and some eating places. The Thai restaurant is good. The rest of the area on the Wharf is a poor copy of various European themes. The Rocks is within easy walking distance to some big gambling hotels. Even if you do not gamble, go and have a look at the scenes in some of the facilities.
