Arrived in Macau and stayed at the Rock Hotel located at the Fishermen’s Waft. This hotel is relatively new, a beautiful hotel with a Victorian classy setup and décor but was disappointed with majority of the staff that are not well informed on a lot of matters pertinent to Tourist attractions or facilities.

A case in point was that upon arrival into the Fishermen’s Waft compound, I asked a Security Guard for direction to the Hotel in Cantonese but mentioned the Hotel’s name in English as I do not know how to read Mandarin to pronounce it in Cantonese. To my surprise, the Security Guard told me that he does not understand Cantonese nor English but can only understand Mandarin! Well, that may be the fact but don’t you think it is only appropriate for an Employee in the same compound to be at the very least know their own facilities or attraction within in English i.e. the one and only Hotel in Fishermen’s Whaft or is this plain ignorant! The Hotel Employees were pretty helpful in particular those at the Reception and Concierge but some how or rather, the information provided were not very accurate i.e. the shuttle service provided. This information was not even provided to us when we made the reservation in which we were not told that we could opt for this service upon arrival at the Macau Ferry Terminal. Upon checked in, we were then told that the shuttle service would be provided to go to the Senedo Square after 10.00am everyday. However when we boarded the van, the driver was reluctant to answer any questions besides being extremely rude and only insisted us on reading the information sign on the van’s destination. Well, not all Chinese read Mandarin! The shuttle service within the Fishermen’s Whaft compound was equally appalling, as the Drivers’ attitude was the same except for one who took us at about 2.30pm on August 20th was more helpful in answering questions.

Despite having difficulty in getting much information from the Fishermen’s Whaft employees, we managed to visit Senedo Square twice besides visiting the Guia Fortress, Ruins of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Kun Yum Tong or the Goddess of Mercy Temple and Macau Tower, thanks to the more helpful Taxi Drivers and the Macau street pedestrians.

While in Macau, don’t forget to pick up some nice Portugese Egg Tarts and Almond Cookies from Koi Kei. If you do not wish to gamble, one day at Macau would be more than enough to visit its attractions and tourist sights.

This hotel is one of the most beautiful I have ever been in. It's only a three star hotel inside the Macau's Fisherman Wharfs (it's like a city walk with shops, restaurants, cafe and arcade games) and next to the Babylon Casino. From the Macau Ferry Terminal you can just take a free shuttle (the shuttle says "the Pharaoh's Palace Casino" or "the Landmark Hotel", they have the same management as The Rocks). Upon arrival there was not any bellboy or concierge in sight, so I dragged my suitcases straight through the revolving door to the check in desk to find unfriendly and no-smiling staff. Gosh!! You should see their nice uniform and the beautiful atmosphere of the hotel, which is a big shame that it didn't match the staff at all!! However, the room I stayed in was very beautiful, with detailed wallpapers, furniture, spacey room, big plush beds, veranda and the gorgeous bathroom with its claw-foot bathtub. All interiors are well thought of and very clean. The housekeeping ladies are actually the nicest staff in this hotel, while the concierge speaks no English at all (though my hotel guide book up in the room says that should guest wants to go anywhere they could contact the concierge or front desk), the front desk gals speaks English yet seems to not want to speak to me, the only informative person is the guy up in the gym room. However, my room view was Fisherman Wharf, The Sands Casino and the friendship bridge, Superb! The hotel is also only a 5 minutes walk from the Sands casino, from this casino you could take the free shuttle to the Venetian Macau. To sum up, this hotel is almost near perfect and it would be one of the world's best to me should the service and staff could be more attentive, knowledgeable, friendlier and nicer.

My girlfriend and I spent two nights at this hotel and had a fantastic time. I only saw one review of this hotel on this website and was unsure about the quality of this hotel given the relatively cheap price. The rooms were quite amazing particularly for the price that we paid which was only HK$2400. The beds were very comfortable and the classic Victorian style to the rooms was very charming.

The hotel is set amongst a series of themed buildings. There is a African restaurant next door and a fake Colosseum further down the wharf.

It is only a short walk to the Babylon casino. Although we decided on walking a bit further to the Sands casino and then took a free shuttle to the Venetian.

My only issue was some initial confusion about my internet booking. I thought I had already paid for the room but Expedia.com only secured our booking with my credit card. However, the staff handled this very well and were polite despite my confusion.

Also there was no pool, which would have been nice to escape the heat. However, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We stayed there for just one night, but a beautiful experience. Coming up to the hotel is quite striking and the inside doesn't disappoint, the room was perfect. We stayed in the deluxe room which had a 2 person shower and even better, a clawfoot bath that has a window with shutters that you can watch the tv in the bedroom through. And every room has a balcony that you can have your breakfast on. The location is great as well, just a walk away from the ferry and the rest of the casinos. The hotel is located in a brand new complex and although a bit tacky, its a bit of fun and has lots of restaurants and bars. Def recommend.
