My family and i went on a package tour of Macau but the group were unable to cover everything on the itinerary. To my disappointment, the tour guide opted to skip Senado Square in favor of shopping at the souvenir stores! He reasoned out that the proximity of the Square to our hotel would enable us to go on foot to the place. I was really disgusted at the guide's decision. I can't imagine how one could favor shopping to a historical place! The good twenty-minute walk to the Square shortly before dinner proved to be timely after all. The night lights were already turned on when we reached the place. It enabled us to better appreciate the Square. For us, the real attractions were not the modern shops and restaurants that dotted it but rather the patterned mosaic floor, the mesmerizing fountain and the well-preserved buildings at the Square. Senado Square is part of the Historical Center of Macau which is included in the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
