“Good location and helpful staffs”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

My wife and I just checked out today, we stayed here for 4 nights. The location is superb and walking distance to most of the attractions at peninsula Macau. From airport, we took mini bus no 26, it costs us only MOP4.2 per person. if you have big luggages, it is advisable to take a cab. The mini bus can be pretty crowded.

Room is new and well kept. Front desk staffs are friendly and helpful.

Not very big, but perfect for us. Clean, modern and new. Just a stones throw from Senado Sq.
From the ferry we tock the free bus for the casio/hotel Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, then just walked down the road to Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel. Turned right at the bakery, then right again.

Like: Good location, near Senado Square, popular eateries (Yi Shun steamed milk, Wong Chi Kei noodle shop), many pastry shops and restaurants nearby. Hotel is clean and bed is comfortable.
Dislike: Small room (even for deluxe), tiny table, low showerhead ( really difficult to shower and shampoo hair). Taxi driver could not locate the hotel, and after getting directions from passersby, informed us that he cannot access the road. We ended up getting out of the cab and walking down the road to locate the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a standard room since the deluxe is not any bigger, and make sure the showerhead is installed hi...

Room size isn't too small. It's location is near to the old town, full of nice food just next to the hotel. A lot of popular biscuit store just next to it . There is a nice sweet soft peanut snack stall which is always long queue.

To reach the hotel, take bus 26 from airport--> about 26 bus stop--> walk forward and cross at traffic light before Sofitel hotel --> follow the shops and walk till Kei ki shop--> turn right, the hotel is just there.

Bed is a bit hard for me.

This is a good clean and value for money hotel in a great location as it is close to the main Macao tourist sights. You are only 5-10 minutes walking distance to Sedano square and a bit more to other sights. It is just off San Ma Lo which is the main street cutting through Macao. The hotel on the first right turn in the lane on the left hand side of Koi Kee Bakery which front on to San Ma Lo. You need to use the Chinese road name for taxi driver as most do not use its Portuguese names. Get a free ride on the bus from the ferry terminal to Grand Lisboa Casino and walk about 15 minutes up San Ma Lo. The only adverse comment is that the shower curtain does not cover the shower adequately and water keep wetting the bath mat!

Stayed at the hotel in Jul 13 for 2 nights. Surprisingly contrary to reviews, the cabdriver didn't have any trouble locating the place (oh well I was able to read out the address to him) though the return trip took slightly longer and costlier (driver was going through winding alleyways, strangely). Service and friendliness level varies from staff to staff - you get a really helpful one and another more aloof. But I guess that evens things out eventually.

Plus points - near Senado Sq (thg far from the casinos). Went off to Sofitel Ponte 16 (10 mins walk) to catch the free shuttle to GongBei border to cross over to Zhuhai and then back. Room is small, as expected but furnished nicely and nicely compact (bed is great btw). Overall fits the small boutique hotel vibe. Would rec weekday stay to get more value out of it (compare cost diff via Agoda) anyway hotel room rates goes up everywhere else during weekends in Macau..

We have booked this hotel through booking.com and we thought that the rates were comparatively lower than most of the hotel rates in Macau. We have noticed that hotel rates in Macau are a bit expensive than those with Hong Kong Hotels. But none the less, this hotel was worth the find.

Yes, as everybody in this review is saying: this hotel is quite hard to find if its your first time. (Just like us -- group of friends). So what I did was to contact my chinese friend in Hong Kong and have the hotel's name and address translated into Chinese characters. Which in effect is very very very helpful. And Iam sharing this with you too. Please see attached photo attached to this review then have it printed --- bring it with you and you can show it to the taxi driver or anybody that you wish to ask for help. Please note that the written chinese characters in "blue pen" is intended if you want to take the taxi -- which translates to "please put on the meter". As in most cases, if they know that you are a tourist, then they will ask for a "contracted price" or a "fix rate" which is more expensive than the usual metered rate. But of course, it all depends on how you bargain -- but please also note, that they have a some sort of an attitude problem -- when you bargain or ask if you want it in meter rate. (well, I guess its their culture. Just take it easy and just simply ignore sheer arrogance!) Or you might want to google map the area and have it printed as the streets in google map are written in chinese too.

Regardless, where you are coming from (airport or the ferry terminal) there are several ways of going to this hotel.
1. you can take the taxi
2. Take the bus (again, route depends on where you are coming from --the airport or the ferry)
3. Take a FREE shuttle bus from either these 2-big hotel names: Grand Lisboa or the Ponte 16 (Sofitel Hotel). These two big named hotels are near to Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel. Well, this is kinda tricky, since you will take the free bus of the hotel this means that it will take you straight to their respective hotels. And from there, you can now walk and locate the hotel. From Grand Lisboa: take the road leading to "Senado Square" then from senado square go straight down the road (about 15-20 minute walk) then look for the Koi Kei Bakery. Enter the small street and the hotel is a few steps away from Koi Kei. Very tricky and patience is all you need. Iam telling you its not easy to find. But with a little patience you will find it. And if you will be dropping off from Sofitel hotel Ponte 16, just the same, take the road going to senado square. From Sofitel, it is a mere 5-10 minute walk. (this is nearer than walking from Grand Lisboa). Take the road going to senado square and look for the Koi Kei Bakery and enter the small road then find the hotel. The key landmark here is actually "KOI KEI BAKERY".

Deceiving as it may seem because the hotel's location is pretty much "hidden" but the area is filled with nice authentic macau shops and restaurants. For those looking for non-chinese food --nearest McDo is still a 10-15 minute located at the Senado Square.

Now, about the hotel:

LOBBY: Small lobby that when group of tourist check in all at the same time, becomes too crowded.

HOTEL'S RESTAURANT : Breakfast cost MOP38 (38 Patacas) Breakfast is from 8:30am to 11:00am. Hmmmm good enough to start your day. Rice, noodles, ham, egg, coffee, tea, juice, bread, butter.... the usual stuff.

ROOMS: What you see in the published photos in the internet is what you get. Size of the room depends on what you reserved. In our case, we have been upgraded to De Luxe room , which is relatively bigger than expected. Nice clean room. Comfy beds and soft fluffy pillows (though the softness of the pillow is not much to my liking). The bathroom is clean and big enough to move around. -- Specially the shower room which is really big in size.

HOTEL STAFFS: Very cordial and we are glad that at least one lady staff knows how to speak english!! Very helpful and nice too.

PLACES OF INTEREST NEAR HOTEL:
1. Ruins of St.Paul
2. Senado Square

CONS:
1. You can take the bus (bus 3A) from Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel to Macau Ferry Terminal. Its a 15-minute ride and would cost you only MOP3.20!!
2. From the hotel, you can also take the bus going to the airport. Iam not sure what number, but I know its very accessible. And very cheap too.

But honestly, if you are not too conscious about hotel rates and is centrally located, I would highly recommend Hotel Sintra. (I think this hotel has a free shuttle from both the airport and the ferry -- so looking for this hotel is no longer a problem) At first, I doubted its location and of course, we were considering about our budget so we opted in staying at Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel.
So if you think that finding Ole Tai Sam Un Hotel is a difficult task -- then I can recommend that you stay in Hotel Sintra -- or the more affluent hotels like Sofitel Ponte 16, Grand Lisboa etc.

There, I just hope I made things little simpler for you.
Have a great time in Macau!!
