Spent a night in this hotel and had their spa treatment in their resort area. It is rather interesting to find a RESORT in the Macau city, dont forget it is a place that is next to the SANDS Macau.

The Resort has a swimming pool, well equipped gym and a SPA and outdoor area, which is pretty good for family stay. Although the hotel is 30 years old which you can't really expect much in terms of it facilities, things are in reasonable conditions, clean and tidy. If staying in Macau is for a leisure trip which spending most of the time visiting restaurants as well as different attractionswhich hotel is for me to get a few hours of sleep, this place is located in one of the prime location in town. 10 minutes walk from bus stop, overnight bus stop nearby, I guess just ignore the age of the hotel, I will come here just for the SPA and pool.

The got a few restaurant outlet at the hotel, the bar was okay for drinks and kinda quiet.

The bed that we have got was huge, in order to do a girls chat all 3 of us decide to sleep on the same bed (and ditch our own room) and it is more than sufficient to fit in 3 people.

Lastly, the wifi is kinda slow , i reckon is because of its age and hopefully there will be some upgrade to be done soon.

The Grand Lapa is small hotel by comparison with the large casinos, however it is the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing, casinos and crowds. The hotel is a mix of Portuguese and Chinese decor with a beautiful lobby, bar and restaurants. Art work, unusual sculptures and flowers are placed throughout the hotel, the attention to detail was amazing, right down to the linen napkins used when serving drinks. We were upgraded to a large room again with lovely details in the decor and views of the harbour. They provide lots of towels,a good selection of toiletries and slippers and robes. It is well located a $3 taxi trip will take you to a number of interesting places, or use the Venetian shuttle bus to go across the bridge to visit local villages and more casinos. The pool area was fantastic like a resort with well appointed changerooms and a day spa and good quality hair dryers (unusual in a hotel). The staff were the most friendly and professional we have come across in a long time. The concierge and porters were very knowledgeable and helpful with advice on what sites to visit, transport etc etc. The hotel was also family friendly with a kids club, tennis courts, watercslide and mini golf. The Grand Lapa was one of the best if not the best 3-4 star hotel we have stayed in and better than quite a few 5 star hotels. I highly recommend this hotel.

Most other reviews are pretty correct for this hotel. Rooms are not huge but well decked out. Good amenities in bathroom. Great bed if king sized. Great concierge who are excellent. Great pool with warm giant spa. Nice slide for kids. Mini golf. Good buffet breakfast but you must include in room cost or you pay by the day but lovely location if seated by the window. Shuttle to hotel and ferry or just catch shuttle to the sands and walk next door which is more often and easier. Casino sucks but I dont think this is owned by the
hotel. The in house spa looks nice but was very expensive so we didn't go.

I stayed at Grand Lapa last November, and I have to say that I had a rather disappointing experience there.
Like most hotels in Macau, this hotel provides shuttle service from ferry terminal to the hotel. When we arrived at the ferry terminal, we started to look for the hotel shuttle. Most hotels have a fixed spot at the shuttle parking area for their bus, and others are too poor to pay for that spot. Grand Lapa belongs to the latter. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we did not see the shuttle. Then we went for lunch. After lunch, we waited for another 30 minutes but still did not see the shuttle. I asked a staff from another hotel at the shuttle parking area and he said that we should wait for more time because the Grand Lapa bus may emerge at a random place at a random time. We waited for another ten minutes and then decided to take a taxi to the hotel. The hotel locates not far away from the port so the taxi drive takes about only 10 minutes. The main reason I choose to stay at this hotel is this hotel is very close to City University of Macau, and I had to take a test at that college the other day. After the stay I realized that the location might be the only positive thing to say about this hotel.
Upon arrival, there were no doorman at the front door, which was pretty odd for a "Mandarin Oriental" property. The check-in takes forever. We waited about 45 minutes to check in. There were not many people there but the staff is so inefficient. I observed a rather strange phenomenon that every staff at the front desk went to the room behind the check-in desk every 5 minutes. Odd. The staff at the hotel are friendly, but they may be too inexperienced. What makes it worse is that the hotel does not provide free wifi even in public areas.
The room is basically what you'll expect in a run-down, crappy four star hotel(maybe three star). The TV is not flat-screen, which reminded me of my childhood. The single beds were small and were so close to each other that seems to be one queen bed - a ridicoulous design.
The hotel has a courtyard but there were no signage whatsoever. We spent about 15 minutes wandering in the courtyard, looking for the back door of the hotel.
The check-out process takes about 5 minutes, which is 5 times longer than the average check-out time I experienced at other hotels.
In conclusion, the hotel is definitely not worth the money and I stongly suggest everyone (except for those who have to take a test at City University) not to come to this hotel.

Room Tip: Seriously, is there a good room in this hotel?

There are millions of hotels in Macau most with Casinos! The Grand Lapa is no exception but it is smaller by comparison with the large resorts yet close to everything. Most importantly their staff are brilliant, the welcome was perfect by the doorman and concierge. Front desk efficient, friendly.
Room delightful facing city this visit rather than the resort and harbour. Had included breakfast and a very fine buffet at that. Again lovely staff, chatty if you wanted and quiet is you didn't. This was a maderin hotel but how now changed hands. Staff seem to working hard at making a impression. We have stayed here before and we will be back when next in Macau.

Room Tip: Higher up facing the harbour are probably best.
