“Not value for money”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Best Western Hotel Sun Sun was the one of cheapest hotels in Macau, but not value for money for its facilities provided. The hotel lobby and the guest lifts were obviously renovated but the room wasn’t, even our room was assigned at the higher floor. The room decoration and the furniture were extremely outdated and no touch-up at all, the window and carpet was also dirty. The breakfast was not in buffet style, and the food/coffee was not hot enough.

They did not provide free shuttle bus service to/from Macau Ferry Terminal but most of the hotels did. You have to spend almost fifty Macau dollars for the taxi ride, in addition, there were quite difficult to get a taxi back to the Ferry Terminal. There are lots of choices if you don’t mind to pay a bit more.

Room Tip: You must clearly mention which bedding (double-bedded or two single beds) you like while making rese...

Macau hotels are expensive especially ones near big casinos. Going through reviews, was supposed chose best western taipa hotel but it was up a hill and far from senado square. In the end changed to best western sun sun. Took bus 26 direct reached from taipa ferry. Given free upgrade to executive room! Pleased with service and all top attractions are able reached by foot - including senado square, st paul's ruin, ah ma temple (abt 20min), libosa and ponte 16 casinos. Free wifi too!

They have several staff members who are Filipino and very attentive and informative for English speakers. The location is somewhat out of the central area but lots of buses from here to the old town or the main casino area near the ferry terminal. The rooms are quite ordinary but good for the price. I walked to and back to the Wynn and really enjoyed the sites along the way, approx 30 to 40 min each way. The old town with the Portuguese architecture was terrific. Would stay here again, they also credited the BW points same day, that impressed me.

A modernist if somewhat garish reception and bar area raise similar expectations for the rooms, which end up as a bit of a let down, being very dated with furnishings and fittings badly in need of a makeover. That said, they are spotlessly clean and comfortable and the staff super professional and helpful while being reasonably overbearing on the very loud groups in need of shepherding. Suitably located within walking distance of the charming city centre and four or five of the major casinos, including the wonderfully preserved old school gems, this hotel serves as a perfectly adequate pit stop to recover from the exhilirating nightlife the place offers.

Stayed for 1 night. Because we came to realise the hotel jus recently undergo some renovation we opt to check the room before checking in. Trust me, payin a little extra to get the room in the Penthouse is totally worth it. If its too crowded inside the room, you can always hang around at the living hall outside, with sofas, computers, n tea making facilities provided.

The older rooms are run down and smells weird.

The location is good as well cause its situated at the other side of the buzzling casino area. Plenty of recommended local food that's within walking distance. Price is reasonable as well. Friendly hotel staff all around

**downside: the room we're in is really dark despite all the lights lit up. Further more the bathroom is only separated by a transparent glass. You can request for it the be covered actually.

I've stayed in Macau a number of times in all varieties of accommodation ranging from hospedarias to casino hotels, and on balance I'd say that the Sun Sun offers reasonably priced rooms in an excellent location.

When travelling, it is necessary to put into context the nature of the area you are staying. Thus, in Macau and HK, unless you are prepared to stay in a hospedaria and deal with all that comes in doing so, you are going to be paying relatively more for significantly less. In other words, skip over all reviews of hotels in HK/Macau that rant about the small size of rooms and erroneous notions about 'value for money' that don't apply here. Deal with it or pay over US$200+ a night to solve the problem. It really is that simple.

The Sun Sun hotel itself is fairly unremarkable, but it is well maintained, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it is located on a quiet side street close to all the (non-gambling) action in the old and charming part of Macau. There's an abundance of cheap food options close at hand, buses and taxis are easy to locate, and if going to Zhuhai, the short ferry crossing is simply over the road.

I paid US$94 for a double room located on the upper floors. It was clean and quite big for Macau. I would advise asking for a room from the 14th floor upwards as these rooms have always been non-smoking and thus have no lingering smell attached to them. I was also lucky enough to escape the dreaded mainland tour groups who were located on the lower floors. I only mention this as these groups are always extremely loud (shouted conversations outside bedrooms in the early morning), very pushy and shovy, and generally a nuisance to other guests as they show absolutely no consideration towards others.

Room Tip: Upper floors are preferable for above stated reasons. Book online with Best Western's site for g...

The hotel is very basic and the double bedroom is also just about acceptable. The staff is very keen on making you upgrade to higher category room. If you want an early checkin by even 1 hour they ask you to take an upgraded room. But you can leave your luggage at the luggage room and checkin later. The hotel is in close proximity of Ruins of St Paul and the Senado square. Its only about 2 stops by bus or you can walk down in about 10-15 minutes. If you want to visit the ultra-big hotels like Venetian, Sands Cotai then its quite far and taxi is expensive. However you can take a free shuttle from Sands near the harbour. There is an Indian restaurant just opposite the Sands(Not Cotai).

Room Tip: If you want a better room be prepared to take an upgraded room.
