On the west side of Taipa Village nearest to Galaxy Macau you will find colonial style colonnade as well as a European style pavilion with arched openings and column sides. Both are of the traditional pastel yellow colour and situated on traditional Portuguese cobblestone surface. They represent a nice welcoming to Taipa Village for those entering from this location
Interestingly, in the old days, this was the shoreline when Taipa was a small island, not part of the larger Cotai landmass formed after many years of land reclamation efforts that linked Taipa to Coloane. There are a couple of glass covers that show old jetty ruins from the days when the only way to the Taipa islands was by taking ferry to/from the island at this location.
Probably because I'm not a gambling fan and dislike the casino vibe but still had to visit Macau. Narrow alleys, a bustling crowd nibbling on the multiple street food options, plus a tiny remnant of the wetlands, a nice walking trail at the nearby park... and even a couple of casinos if you feel you miss them on this side of the bridge.
Nice place to stroll around...
There's a tiger sugar stall..
...harley davidson motorcycle showroom...restaurants and shops...souvenir shops too.
Yes, it is a nice place, but not one that will auger 5 stars.
We went during the Lunar New Year, so there are many decorations all around for phototaking.
Overall, a nice part, and walkable to Venetian Casino.
But other than that, it is a average place.
Taipa is usually a bustling village with thousands of tourists exploring its narrow alleys and nibbling their way through street food (Rua do Cunha) from dawn to dusk each day.
Sadly, that is not the case at present, as the Coronavirus Outbreak has pretty much shut down Taipa Village like it has most places around Macau at the moment. Visited recently just after noon, most businesses are closed and there are only a handful of other people.
Besides being much easier to take unobstructed photos of the village, something that has been rather challenging over the past 10 years, there is little reason to visit Taipa Village at this time. Hopefully, the virus scare will pass so we can see Taipa alive again soon.
