One of the pleasant places to take a walk in Macau is the long Avenida Republica which runs along Sai Van Lake. The avenue is lined with park benches and large trees, providing shade as you walk along the lake and provides you a lovely escape from the crowds found in the popular tourist areas near A-Ma Temple or the Historic City Centre near Senado Square.

There are also some nice buildings along Avenida Republica as well as a couple nice restaurants (Henri's Galley and Ali's Curry House) and popular hotel (Pousada De Sao Tiago), found along this avenue. You can look across Sai Van Lake and see the Macau Tower. On clear days, you can watch people doing the Bungee Jump and the Skywalk. You can also see the Macau Skyline, featuring a string of major hotel/casinos like the Grand Lisboa, Wynn, MGM and Mandarin Oriental.

During September each year, there are major fireworks competitions held each weekend, near the Macau Tower. Avenida Republica is a great place to set up for picture-taking or simply to watch the fireworks that take place during this annual competition. You can also watch fireworks held during other times of the year.

Sai Van is one of two lakes, which use to be part of the bay but has now been closed off by landfill. This man-made like is between the Macau Towers entertainment centre and Avenida da Republica on the mainland side of the lake. This road offers a nice lakeside walk in a quiet street not frequented by cars or motorbikes. There are also a couple nice restaurants on this lakeside avenue. Otherwise, there is little else in the form of tourist value for Sai Van Lake.

From Sai Van Lake, as mentioned, there is Macua Towers to visit as well as Penha Church (requires a rather steep uphill walk but rewards with very good views of Macau and the bay) and A-Ma Temple which just a few minutes walk from the far end of Sai Van Lake. Otherwise, there are not many reasons to spend limited time in Macau around Sai Van Lake. Better to invest your time visiting Macau's more interesting and important attractions.
