Boy this place has changed a lot since 2001 which is a bit sad but with a English guided tour, run by the government, from the ferry terminal the place was explained very well and we got a great insight into not only the new Macau but the old as well with all the politics thrown in well. We were taken to all the interesting places for a reasonable price. The sights we were taken to were great and the 4 hour trip was well worth the $1200 HGD ($180 for a couple private tour)
On our way back we were told to walk down to the Lisboa casino and go to the lower ground floor and you can get a free bus back to the ferry terminal.
Don't go on the weekend as the ferry may be fully booked and also get seats A and B as you are on a window seat

I am luving this lovely place tho. A quick in and out tour of Macau will have to start from your point of entry. I am gonna have to start from Shenzhen for an easy review. From Shenzhen, you could go to the port ferry at Shekou Port, right from the Airport you could take the subway line to Shekou. It's not a hassle though. At the ferry port, get a one way ticket or two way if only you know when your return date is gonna be. It should not be more than 200 rmb practically around 180 rmb one way. The journey is sometimes bumpy when the ocean wants to show how 'smooth' it could be. The journey should be about 70 mins from Shenzhen Shekou Port. On a pretty good day, it's an awesome sight to see.

Visited Macau three years ago and had an awesome time touring the sights, particularly the old downtown section and casino row at night.. The Venetian is the best entertainment stop, having something for family members of all ages. Las Vegas kitsch at its glitziest, best escape from reality! Particularly enjoyed the second floor 'Venice' canal.

We had a taste of Portuguese Macau at a Taipa Portuguese cafe, which reminded us of Spanish cooklng back home. Missed out on the dog races, though, and it wasn't Grand Prix season. The entrance plaza of the fort-turned casino has a romantic old world feel with its ancient trees. Would love to go back someday.

A wonderful place for a short holiday. It is small but contains all the old and new attractions, except to Cotai, everywhere is within walking distance. It is full of life may it be day or night. The place is clean and colorful , all historical landmarks are well maintained. I like the variety of the local foods if you know where to find them. But inflation is flying high with the booming economy, things are getting much expensive compared to 3 years ago when I was there.

Take the one day tour of Macau with Mario, he is a Portugese Local of over 30 years. He gives great history of the Macau city before and after the hand over to China. Worth paying the extra fee to go to the tallest tower in Macau and we did see a young woman bungee jump from the top deck of the tower. Enjoy the trip to the local pastry shop and try all the delicious treats. Remember if traveling back to the US, no pork jerky or products alike can be taken back to the states :(
