“Casa Garden - Nice garden but low impact attraction on the Macau World Heritage Trail”
Review of Casa Garden

Casa Garden is an interesting inclusion in the World Heritage Collection that is quite difficult to visit as it is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays. It is located on Camoes Square where there is a l small cluster of World Heritage Attractions, including Old Protestant Cemetery and across from St. Anthony's Church. You can also visit the larger Camoes Garden and Grotto, which is just next to Casa Garden and is open to the public year round.

Historically, the compound houses a building, which was constructed in 1770 and was originally the property of a wealthy Portuguese Merchant named Manuel Pereira. It was later used by the British East India Company as well. At present it is used by the Oriental Foundation and as a result the building itself is not open for visitation. However, you can wander around the garden directly in front of the building.

The Casa Garden is a small area in front of the Oriental Foundation building featuring a sizeable fish pond, a statue and decently manicured garden area. and takes no more than 5-10 minutes to visit. It is a nice garden but might fail to leave a memorable impression compared to other more impressive World Heritage attractions in the historic city centre area.

Overall, we usually don't recommend the World Heritage attractions in this area, including Casa Garden to those visiting Macau as a daytrip as there are more interesting attractions in which to invest your limited time. However, if you are staying for 2-3+ nights, and intend to see all of the Macau World Heritage collection, it is worth making a pass by Camoes Square to see those found here, including Casa Garden

Hint: For those interested in seeing some of Macau's better gardens, we suggest Lou Lim Iok Garden just past Tap Seac Square as the best garden visit in Macau. Also, Camoes Garden, just next to Casa Garden is a decent garden/park area to see.
