“Interesting Historical Museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2012

The Macau Museum, the former official residence of the Portuguese governor, gives an extensive presentation of the history of Macau with many historical artifacts and it highlights the Macanese folk art and culture too. Far before Hong Kong it was the connecting harbor for trade to Shamian Island, Guangzhou, China. As a Dutchman I was surprised by the defeat of the Dutch when their invasion in 1622 turned out into a failure. Still a nice museum though with displays in English as well.

“Great Displays”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

Would have liked more time here, but as we were on a tour our time was fairly limited. Very well set out with interesting displays.

“Not much collection”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

A collection of Macao History. Basically nothing much to see, but if you get too hot outside the street, you can pay a little to come in this museum for a cool break.

“Great respite form the heat. Not very interesting, though.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

If you're near the St. Paul ruins, and especially if you're hot, you may as well visit this museum. It's not very interesting but fine and cheap. The bookstore is the worst I've ever seen in a museum.

“it is the 3rd floor that you must go to”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

Nowadays, you can find a lot online. But the exhibition on the 3rd floor of Macao Museum can help you experience the history, how the Cantonese people led their lives in the early 20th century, what business they did and so on. Even the Cantonese teenagers don't know the history well. We live in the modern city now. We really don't know how our grandfather and great-grandfather lived. I am lucky to find the answer in Macao Museum. My son is very interested in them, the displays, the video, the audio description and the record!
