Mandarin Oriental Macau

We stayed here for two nights for some R& R after a couple of busy days in Hong Kong.

On arrival at the ferry terminal we were greeted by a hotel driver, rather un expected as I never booked it, we later found out the head Concierge was tipped off on our arrival by the Concierge of the Icon Hotel in Hong Kong where we stayed, this was a fantastic and kind gesture.

We were whisked off to our room and to our surprise was upgraded to a water view Suite, it again surpassed our expectations. Check in was done in the suite discreetly and we were left to enjoy the rather spacious room and all its amenity’s.

Complementary wine and fruit was waiting for us, the room has all the modern gadgets you would expect from a Mandarin Oriental and the bathroom was exquisite.

The property is adjoined next to the MGM grand, just a short walk through the luxury shopping mall and you are in the Casino, its rather pleasant that the MO does not have a Casino, it’s a peaceful haven in a party city.

Breakfast was excellent, relaxing and informal, the food selection is good, as well as the service. The bar is fantastic, an excellent array of cocktails, beers and wines with an enthusiast bar tender looking after you.

Francis the Head Concierge will look after all your needs and always appears to be on hand to help you out, also well done to Twinne and her team making check out and in so smooth.

I am normally a four season man, I could now be well persuaded to move over to Mandarin Oriental, they tick all the right boxes.

Arriving from Hong Kong you quickly realize Macau is more like the Mainland than it is to HK and this hotel is no exception. The service was good, with a strong desire to please but still a bit lacking in a hotel of this price range. Check-in was delayed well past 3pm. Room cleaning was spotty and a bit awkward: they seemed to always want to clean the room as we returned to the room. All minor issues and expected when travelling in China, but in this price range it should be better.

That said the rooms, and faciliites are great (including excellent food) and it is in a good location if you want to be near the action but is quieter than the casion hotels. Take note though that it is still a bit of a walk to anything but the attached MGM complex.

One of the luxurious hotel in Macau. Have no regrets on paying the price. Beds are so comfy, room is spacious and modern and clean. Kids get their own slippers, toiletries set and even toddler potty...how thoughtful.

Breakfast are awesome, very personalised service and great food. Meals are order to cook...in any style you prefer. Their chef will personally serve it to you....I ordered egg benedict..it was perfect.

Location wise, maybe not perfect, but we don't really spent a lot of time in the casinos, so it's fine. After all, MGM's hotel casino which is just next door and attached to the hotel lobby is so convenient.

Check in /out was a breeze, concierge service fabulous....they are so informative and friendly...if I even return, I will consider MO based on their service alone.

I booked a short stay (2 nights) through my airline miles program. I was afraid to get a bad deal because of that, but I was treated as royalty.
The property is new and located in a quiet side of the casino strip. It is at walking distance from the historical city center.
The staff is friendly and very helpful given that the world outside mostly speaks Chinese and going around is not that easy.

What I did not like is that the restaurant closes early (11 pm). However the hotel is connected to a mall and casino, where food is available at late hours. Shame that there is no rooftop restaurant. The view would be certainly stunning!

This hotel is located on the Macau Peninsula, whereas the majority of big hotels are on Taipa...so it's a great escape from the chaos of casino's. It's near the older part of Macau and has plenty of local bars in walking distance as well as MGM hotel and casino attached as well. Breakfast was great, and the hotel bar amazing. The pool and gym looked great too. The lobby isn't as big and impressive as some hotels, but that would be my only tiny negative - we were looking for a hotel that had an incredible sense of arrival. The rooms are large and beds very comfortable, plus the bathrooms and showers are fantastic!

Room Tip: Corner rooms have more views - but all rooms are good

This hotel delivers what is expected with an MO property. Service, cleanliness, attention to comfort and detail. Macau itself was a treat, and if you are not into smoky casinos, I can't imagine a nicer place to stay. The saff is trying hard, but if you've traveled in China (SAR) you know that the service is an issue. In general, they don't understand that a smile can go a long way to overcoming a langauge barrier...and if Macau and the MO want to present themselves as an international destination holiday a litte work is needed on some basic concepts. However, the room was large, clean, and beautifully appointed. Breakfast buffet overwhelming!

Room Tip: I think you will get what you pay for in terms of view.

Stayed here with family at the end of 2012. I was there to see the water dance show.

The Mandarin Oriental is great if you want peace and quiet, away from all the smoke and bustle huste. If you want to gamble you can walk tot he MGM right beside you can walk though a corridor.

Overall it's a hotel for clients that want privacy. The breakfast buffet is one of the best that I have ever seen in hotels. And the service is exemplary. That's why it's one of the elite hotels in Macau!
They gym is excellent as well. It opens very early in the morning and the staff are super nice!

Rooms have amazing water views!
