“Great view and walk”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Start at Jardim da Flora all the way up. When you get to the top, you'll have a nice view over Macao and the fortress itself is really nice. You'll learn the different signs for the typhoons (still used) and there's a little chapel with frescos that mix both European and Chinese culture.

“Great views of Macau and surrounding - and FREE”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

It's all FREE.......unless you take the cable car up, which is HK$2 per person........i.e. very cheap! Great views from the top, and free to look in the chapel. The lighthouse was closed, so couldn't climb to top of that, but still great views from the foot of the lighthouse over the cityscape. Definitely worth the hike up and down.

“This is the lighthouse fort! Worth the trip.”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

With all due respect to many reviewers below, this is NOT the fort next to the ruins of St Paul, but rather the next hill northeast with the lighthouse. The Monte Forte ( next to the ruins) is listed, I think #24. You really should see both. They both show the defense of the city, and the views from both are beautiful and different.

The small chapel with the frescos gives a good feeling for the art style of that period.

I don't recommend walking from St Pauls/Monte Forte to Guia Fortress--we did and it about did us in. There is a cable car up that would make the ascent more pleasant in the heat. However, if you do walk up, there is a neat hedge in the shape of a dragon along the path.

“Bird’s eye view”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Make time to visit this Fortress. We took a bus there as advised by the Tourist Info Center at Senado Square. This Fortress is not within walking distance from St. Paul’s Ruins unless you are a great walker. The bus fare cost MOP2.20 each way. Be sure to have exact amount as no change will be given. Can’t remember how many stops or the name of the stop. If the bus driver refused to point out which stop to get off, which we encountered, ask the locals. From the stop, it was a fair uphill walking distance to the Fortress. It is worth the time and effort. We were rewarded with a bird’s eye view of Macau city. The Lighthouse at the top of this Fortress looks so majestic. What’s more, it is a working-lighthouse. We stayed in the vicinity of Macau Ferry Terminal. At night, we could see bright light emitting from the Lighthouse. Oh yes, the operating hours of the Fortress is until 5pm.
