“A relaxing stroll in Coloane”

A welcome respite from the glitzy casinos, Coloane has 1 Lord Stowe bakery and two Lord Stowe cafés if you get hungry. Stroll by the Coloane port where you can see two stalls of dried fish. On the opposite end, you can sit on the benches and watch the windmills across the water. Visit a quaint and colorful church, Church of St. Francis Xavier, and sit inside and meditate in silence. Walk further along Cinco de Octubro street and look at the Portuguese architecture. There are 3 temples if you want to make an offering. Walk along the tree-lined side streets and enjoy the soft breeze. It is easy to reach Coloane by public bus.

Lord Stow's bakery can't be missed! Eat in their little cafe round the corner. It's nice to spend an hour wandering around.

This place is only good for a break from the glitz & glamour of the casinos. It appears to be an abandoned old fishing village with lots of dogs wandering aimlessly & nobody speaks or understands English.

A couple of hours is all you will need but strolling around the quiet streets and looking at a little Portuguese architecture makes a nice change from the brash, glittery casinos.
There are a few nice restaurants and always a taxi to get you back to civilisation if you cant face the bus journey. Worth the effort I thought.

It is not the most accessible place but still connected to the public transport system well enough. It has this laidback charm to it, that Macao has shed over the years. It is still rather slow and the people there are quite friendly. If you know your dried seafood, buy the salted fish and shark's fin (I do not buy shark's fin) there. It is really value for money, compared to Koi Kee's, and of a high quality. The stalls can be found near the stilt houses and people drive there in their BMWs and Mercedes to buy the dried goods.
Lord Stow's Portuguese egg tarts can be found there too, and they are really not to be missed.
