“Nice way to spend a couple of hours”

A couple of hours is all you will need but strolling around the quiet streets and looking at a little Portuguese architecture makes a nice change from the brash, glittery casinos.
There are a few nice restaurants and always a taxi to get you back to civilisation if you cant face the bus journey. Worth the effort I thought.

It is not the most accessible place but still connected to the public transport system well enough. It has this laidback charm to it, that Macao has shed over the years. It is still rather slow and the people there are quite friendly. If you know your dried seafood, buy the salted fish and shark's fin (I do not buy shark's fin) there. It is really value for money, compared to Koi Kee's, and of a high quality. The stalls can be found near the stilt houses and people drive there in their BMWs and Mercedes to buy the dried goods.
Lord Stow's Portuguese egg tarts can be found there too, and they are really not to be missed.

It was great to escape the atmosphere of the casinos and large hotels to a nice little town not too far of a journey from the Cotai Strip....Coloane. The town is small and will not take long to explore. We walked to there from the Giant Panda Pavilion which took about 35-40 minutes. There is public transportation to the area and stops near the towns turn-a-about. We ate a great lunch at Cafe Cheri. Prior to our departure from the area we stopped at the original Lord Stows Bakery to try its famous egg tart. Oh was it good! Get away from the strip and visit Coloane. The few hours spent away from noisy casino machines and flashing hotel lights was rejuvenating.

Bus 26 A will take you there. No taxi available. Old village, almost abandoned. Not much to see. Just long walks, a lot of dogs everywhere. Visit if you really have nothing better to do.

We really enjoyed having lunch here and wandering around for a few hours afterward. I wish I had been able to spend more time exploring here -- I left having the feeling that I'd like to see more.
