We were a little apprehensive as we were "stuck" here for 10 days! But we needn't have worried.

The hotel fully deserves the 4 star rating ...and maybe even more. it is clear there are friendly and professional managers here. I have always said...happy managers = happy staff= happy (repeat) customers.

Reception was effortless, friendly and smiling. And Wow! The hotel itself is just a wonderful collection of well designed and thought out buildings. The reception area just beggars a stroll around. Our room was fine with all you will need for a sun holiday. We experienced some noise, like furniture moving, but a polite word to our neighbours fixed the problem. Our "double" bed..why 2 singles?? And the mattress? Mmmm...hard and not nice. TIP...ask for a softer over mattress. I only realised this the day we left!!

The pools are the centre pieces and deservedly so. Plenty of sun beds and great bar service. Each lounger has a wireless pager for service! The pools themselves are spotless as are the surrounds. I prefer the pool nearest the reception. Less pesky, noisy kids.

The gardens and their maintenance are a credit to the gardeners and my compliments to them as an ex landscape designer. The hotel caters for 1,000 guests with about 260 staff. However you don't ever feel there are 1,000 guests!

The restaurant is wonderful. We luckily had an outside table and were able to enjoy the gardens and the water features which were right beside us. Fabulous! There was never a sense of rush or panic as is often the case with buffets. But then we always wait awhile.

If I have a gripe it is with the food. The breakfast is deffo one of the best we have had in any hotel, including many a 5 star. Lots of fresh fruit, great pastry and bread selection, meats, cheeses, juices, shakes, smoothies, cereals, hot buffet, cava (!) etc, etc. I had only one gripe here. I like bacon as do most people in the morning. The bacon offered was uncooked, white and should not have left the kitchen as it did...it should have been crispy. Also, the sausages were not good.

The dinner for us became monotonous. I would suggest less salads and more live cooking stations such as a paella station and a pasta/pizza station in addition to the meat/carvery station. There is a pizza station but well hidden away! The hot buffet selection just did not do it for us. It was bland and uninspiring. The desserts were good and varied. We ate out twice, once in the village and once in the restaurant upstairs. Worth a visit, if a bit pricey.

A special mention to the wonderful and ebullient Carmello, the maître d'. And to our professional and attentive waiter, Alfonso. Both true professionals who helped make our stay a very enjoyable one.

The cleanliness throughout the hotel was exemplary. My other half has hawk eyes for the smallest speck of dust and this hotel passed with flying colours!!

All in all this gets 5 from us as there are far too many good and great points that far outweigh any small gripes.

Room Tip: Don't go to/from the beach and port through reception....go all the way down through the gardens...

We've just returned from the Cordial Mogan after a very enjoyable week. After the rigours of Ryanair (who, by the way, are running a trial offering a limited number of reserved seats from Stansted at £10 pp each way) and the vagaries of the luggage reclaim at Las Palmas airport it was a pleasure to arrive at this hotel. Greeted by friendly staff and a cold drink we were impressed by the thought that has gone into the place which was simply a piece of open ground when we last visited the village. Spotlessly clean, well laid out and the impression of living in a tropical garden. Facilites are very good and we had a junior suite which was large and comfortable. We were able to breakfast leisurely in the poolside restaurant a few metres from the room. Pools are good with comfortable loungers but no pressure from the staff to 'do things'. It was a shoit walk from our room to the garden entance of the site which came out about 250 metres from the seafront. Mogan has grown - the sandy Sharan beach is a plus - but it is not overdeloped. All-in-all a most pleasant break. The one 'but' concerns the buffet dinner arrangements. I would admit that we're not great fans of the buffet but it was part of the package so we did use it on three evenings. The food was plentiful with a wide choice and well cooked. It was as good as any other hotel we've stayed in and better than some but why, oh why do they have two sittings (6.30 to 8.00 and 8.30 to 10.00)? Haven't see that set-up in forty odd years! It produced an inevitable rush with queues forming round the food islands and pressurised the drinks staff with everyone wanting to order at the same time. The first twice we used it we were less than impressed although, in fairness, the third time saw an improvement in the level of service. The a la carte restaurant is excellent and we used it twice - clients on half-board get a €15 allowance per person on meals there. On two days we exchanged our evening meal for a lunch at the pool bar and ate dinner in the village - plenty of good choices. Having said all that, we'd recommend the Cordial for a relaxed break.

We stayed at the Cordial Mogan Playa last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Hotel is an amazing structure centred around an enormous circular building - The reception staff were extremely polite and we received a glass of bubbly on arrival. The room was very comfortable and included a large bathroom with bath and shower plus a separate WC. The cleaniness was superb, air conditioning which worked really well, towels changed most days, a fridge in the room for your own refreshments etc.

The restaurant, although large, provided any food you could imagine.Eggs at breakfast and other items prepared in front of you by the chefs. For dinner we had a reserved table of our choice and many foods were on offer including amazing fish (a choice of at least 3 each evening), huge variation of salad items and various selections of hot meats and vegetables. The attention to hygiene was first class and the restaurant staff were so helpful and polite. The wine on offer was reasonably priced (about the same as UK).

The outside pool areas are exceptional with loads of beds available and not many people leaving towels to reserve beds etc. Within the grounds there are many well tended garden areas with a huge range of tropical plants and cactus.

The evening entertainment was good with tribute bands, acrobats and a modern string trio playing modern music - interesting!

We would thoroughly recommend this Hotel and will return asap

Finally, there appears to be no sea view rooms, as some of the guests were expecting, but the hotel balconies are sensitively set out as a rule. In saying this some rooms face the cliffs at the rear, but most clients were happy with their accomodation.

A truly wonderful experience.

Stayed at this hotel 1st to 8th October. Having read all the great reviews, we were not disappointed. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left the staff went out of their way to make this one of our best holidays ever. They take customer service as a priority here and the food is of a very high standard too, Rooms too are well furnished and the hotel is worthy of a 5 star rating in my opinion.

We went on a guided tour of the hotel on the friday of our holiday along with approx 20 other guests.. We went into the underground tunnel and were shown the kitchens, underneath the swimming pool, the laundry room and the carpenters workshop. We even went into the hotel MD's office and he shook each of our hands in turn and thanked us for staying at the hotel. This was a nice touch indeed and he invited us all to a cocktail party that same evening.

We have always stayed in the Riu chain of hotels previously and have always been impressed by them and I didn't think that we would find another hotel that could possibly surpass their brand. I can honestly say that The Cordial Mogan Playa is better in every respect.

We will be back, the sooner the better!!

we previously stayed here 3 years ago and wondered if we could be a little disappointed 2nd time around, could it possible be as good as we remembered. We shouldn't have worried, once again it was a marvellous stay in a first class hotel. From the moment we arrived to the time we left it was so relaxing and the staff were excellent. The sun loungers have to be the most comfortable ever, I could have slept on one through the night, the beds were quite hard, only a slight criticism. Food was again very good with so much choice and the price of drinks was reasonable compared to other hotels we have stayed in. The cocktails were absolutely yummy, if you like mint try the Grasshopper. The pool was spotless and just the right temperature, it was so peaceful at the pool nearest to reception, absolute bliss. Can't wait to go back again!

Room Tip: Block 1 - 4 if you want to overlook the quiet pool near reception

This is our 3rd year at this hotel and we were again not disappointed. It is a 4 star hotel but probably could be a 5 star. The moment you get there, the Reception staff are great, there is a glass of bubbly for each guest and a porter takes your cases to your room. From then on, its first class all the way. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas so no one has to fight to get them, or get up at the crack of dawn. The restaurant serves fabulous meals, the weather is heaven - what more can I say? Also, if you get chance to go to their exclusive Las Guevayes restaurant, you get a discount of 15 euros as part payment against your half board.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

As many reviews have already said, this is an excellent hotel. Grounds are pretty and well maintained and rooms are spacious and nicely furnished. Most previous reviews have covered the nicer points of this hotel so I would like to add a few criticisms. Firstly, the beds are twins pushed together. We knew this when we booked so can’t complain but it is a little unromantic. The beds are quite hard as well. We also found the room noisy. For the first few nights the people in the room next to ours kept getting up in the night to use the toilet. Every time they flushed, the noise woke us up. They also seemed to have a mania for moving furniture at all hours which made a horrible loud scrapping sound every time. Then they left at 4 in the morning and banged about waking us up again until I shouted something rude through the wall. The next couple played the TV loud till well after 12 and clomped about on the stone floors in their shoes – again a few rude words solved this. Whilst I appreciate the hotel can’t legislate for noisy and inconsiderate guest, we have stayed in similar accommodation where noise wasn’t a problem. Perhaps put some felt pads on the legs of the chairs/tables so they don’t scrape and notices reminding guest that others may want to sleep at night?

The brochure we booked this through claimed it is 300m to the beach. Somewhere on the property it may well be true but if you leave through main reception as we always did it is a good 10-15 minute walk.

The sun loungers were plentiful and we could always get one – even if a few selfish guests ignored the signs about not reserving beds with their sun towels.
Our room overlooked the gardens and the spa. We preferred this to the ones overlooking the pool as many on the lowers floors seems to have trees growing directly in front blocking the sun and view.

A final warning. On our first night we ordered wine at dinner and signed the receipt, which they took. Signing added the cost to our room bill. On the second night we decided to pay at the table and when they left a receipt on the table we thought it was for us and took it. The following nights we paid but they took the unsigned receipts. When we came to settle up, they tried to charge us for the second night’s wine probably presuming that since they didn’t have the unsigned receipt, we hadn’t paid. In fairness, they took it off the bill with no argument when we explained what had happened.

This may seem that we didn’t enjoy but ultimately none of this marred our stay. This is a lovely, well run and friendly hotel in a beautiful location.

Room Tip: I would either recommend a view over the gardens or going as high as possible to avoid trees blockin...
