“Class act.”
Reviewed April 28, 2011

After all the positive reviews on this hotel, We could not wait to arrive. Well we were not disappointed. The Cordial Playa is a class act from start to finish. The hotel grounds are truly stunning, the staff impeccable in their service from the cleaners through to the hotel management. Nothing was too much trouble for them and our every need was catered for. I got the impression that the staff enjoyed working at the hotel and that says much for the management culture.
The clientele is mixed with Germans predominating. The hotel tried hard to stop them reserving the sunbeds! No easy task.
The restaurant staff were superb and mostly the food was excellent, breakfasts in particular were first class and if you have a mind to it you could feast out on champagne and smoked salmon at 9 in the morning.
The hotel is not a cheap option but you get what you pay for. It is brilliantly located in a very pretty resort and I would not hesitate to recommend it to all discerning holiday makers. My family and I will most certainly return. If you are reading this and are hesitating in making a booking then stop being silly and press the button, you will not be disappointed, I promise.

This is the first time I have ever written a review of a hotel however this one deserves its No 1 position in Trip Advisor. Our stay was without any complaint. The hotel proudly shows its guests around the facilities and has nothing to hide but much to be proud of. This speaks volumes.

The hotel was fantastic, lovely heated pools, jacuzzis, food and entertainment. four lane bowling alley and squash court were free to use - brilliant way to keep out of the sun for a while. The staff couldn't have been friendlier - they made our holiday. Brilliant hotel, Will definately be back!

Upon arrival at 10pm We were given a Glass of Cava and Where given directions where we could get some food whilst we were checked into our Suite, in the Main Dining Hall (Excellent Service & Friendly Staff throughout) food was good quality and plenty of choice this was "After Main Service Had Finished but where were accommodated never the less".

Once finished eating we headed to the Suite (porter service was also excellent) we crashed to be honest and didn’t really pay much attention to anything.

On waking up the Next morning the Wow factor really hit, the Suite was Outstanding and much better than I expected and My Expectations are "Very High".

The large living area equally large Bedroom and Gorgeous Balcony with 2 Loungers and Table and Chairs blew us away.

The maid service i have to say is the very best i have ever seen and i have stayed in hundreds if not thousands of places.

Their attention to Detail was out of this world down to the little Chocolate on the pillow every day of our stay and fresh Fruit and a Bottle of Wine "When Needed”, extra pillows upon noticing my wife folding hers just reiterated how much attention was made to our needs and a fold away bed for our 5yr old son, this was especially appreciated by my wife who tried to find out who our Maid was as she wanted to thank her personally so let us say it here “Thank You Very Much”.

The hotels grounds were also immaculate and the plants and trees where beautiful, the pool was kept in tip top condition and very nice.

The Kids Club was fabulous and my Son Jacob loved it to bits and thinks the world of Nicki the young lady who was working there, she was very friendly and understanding and had the Patients of a Saint as Jacob is very demanding but we left with a fantastic Photo of them both and some wonderful memories as Nicki also did the Evening Kids Disco which was Equally Excellent, Thank You Nicki you are an Asset to the Hotel.

Overall Our Stay Was Wonderful and would Highly Recommend this Hotel to Anyone.

We stayed as a family of four on a full board plus basis, in two rooms in block c, overlooking one of the pools and reception area, during Easter holidays 2011. Check in was delayed until our rooms were ready, problems with the electronic door lock to one of the rooms was sorted after waiting for maintenance. Rooms are comfortable with two beds, a small balcony overlooking the pool area, tv, phone, air conditioning, electronic safe (2 euros per day) bathroom and toilet. the walls of the rooms are paper thin, so noise from adjoining rooms can be annoying, my tip is keep your air conditioning on, that is noisy, so you can't hear people coughing, sneezing, peeing etc. The hotel is popular with people from all over Europe.

Breakfast and dinner for us was served in the restaurant on the ground floor two floors down from the reception and bar area. Breakfast you can sit where you want, there is a wide and varied choice of hot and cold buffet items for breakfast which was good. Tea and coffee is served for you when you sit down.

Lunch was a buffet style and served in the blue house at the harbour end of the complex, you can sit anywhere and help yourself to a limited range of hot and cold buffet items. Soft drinks and house wines are included in the package.

For dinner you are allocated a table for the duration and you choose which sitting you want. We have two children so went for the 18.00 to 19.30 slot, the other slot for dinner is from 20.00 to 21.30. Again soft drinks and house wines are included in the full board package. There was an excellent choice of mostly hot buffet items each evening.

We found service in the restaurants to be patchy at best, with a few long waits for drinks and incorrect drinks orders being commonplace, my spanish is not great, although staff seemed to be mixed in speaking many different languages.

The entertainment is in the bar / theatre area opposite the restaurant two levels below reception. We saw a magic show, a bee gees tribute act, a Tom Jones tribute act, not exactly west end productions. Again service here was patchy and unreliable.

Hotel has two nice swimming pools with ample sunbeds and sun shades. Towel vouchers are issued at reception (one per person), you pick up your towels from the pool attendant from 9am in the morning and then choose where you want to sit. You can change your towels for fresh ones every morning at this time. Some sun beds always seem to be reserved, good tactic was to have breakfast at 8.30am and then reserve a bed on the way back, beware some areas by the pool don't get any sun shine until lunch time because of the proximity of the cliff face behind the accommodation blocks.

The hotel has a spa facility which costs 10 euros for two hours, children under 16 can't use it, the spa facilities are good. The gym is situated in the basement of the blue house adjacent to the dive shop and table tennis. The gym has two bikes, two treadmills and one cross trainer with some weights. You can end up waiting for equipment at peak times.

There is a free ten pin bowling alley and squash courts which we enjoyed and were empty every time we went in?

The Hotel is situated directly opposite a shopping centre with a great (dino) supermarket. It is a five minute walk down to the beach which is surrounded by cafes and bars. The harbour area is pretty with lots of restaurants and cafes facing the sea and boats etc. There was an open air market on Thursday with lots of cheap looking designer watches, bags, clothes, my 10 year old son summed it up perfectly calling it a 'tat market'.

Overall the hotel was ok, i'm not sure how it is rated as the best hotel on the island (I have not stayed in any of the others so cannot judge this), would I recommend it to others, yes if you like hotels, I just don't like hotels much I guess.

We have recently returned from a week at the Cordial Mogan Playa hotel and it must be said that it is a marvellous hotel. A previous review mentioned 'nitpicking' in negative comments they had read...we can only agree! Hotels aren't always perfect no, but this hotel is pretty close. The hotel complex is fantastic and spread over a large area so you don't feel cramped. There are 2 large pool areas so, again, the load is spread...both pool areas are also kept immaculately, with jacuzzi pools too!
The room we had was a lovely room overlooking one of the pool areas...it had a very clean bathroom, a huge double bed, air-con, balcony, a tv with built in dvd player, fridge etc. It was kept exremely clean all week long! Thankyou!
The staff were all excellent and couldn't do enough for you to make your stay pleasurable. The bars and restaurants were superb...the food quality was great and there was plenty to choose from in a fantastic restaurant. There were 2 sittings for dinner, designed to spread the load and offer convenience to those who prefer to eat earlier or later. The food was regularly refreshed to maintain the high standard.
The spa facility was immaculate...some people have grumbled about the price of treatments...well spa treatments are expensive everywhere, including the UK! You don't have to go in and pay!
For a relaxed holiday away where you can feel a bit pampered anyway, this is a great choice. The resort itself is reasonably quiet but has a lovely port area with plenty of restaurants and cafe/bars to sit and relax in. There is a nice crescent beach to enjoy if you prefer the feel of soft sand under your feet. You can even do a bit of a mountain trek (at your own risk of course) by wandering up what is now a disused road into the hills, where you can get some fantastic views of the bay!
In short....There is nothing bad we can say about the hotel at all! Other than being quiet (which we liked) the same can be said of the resort!

Room Tip: One overlooking the pool and Tamaragua restaurant.

This hotel lives up to all the positive reviews posted previously! We have just spent a very relaxing week here in lovely surroundings. The only thing I would change would be to have bed and breakfast as we thoroughly enjoyed eating by the harbour most evenings. However we were able to change our half board meal plan for lunch buffet instead of dinner. This is the only place in gran Canaria I would stay.
