Cordial Mogan Valle
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 18, 2009

My new wife and I stayed at the Cordial Valle Apartments in Puerto Mogan for our honeymoon between 3rd and 17th January 2009.
We chose this particular place mainly on the basis of reports from other travellers on this website.
We checked in very quickly and found the reception and staff very helpful.
It can be a little confusing to find your way around at first but let's be honest, the apartments are built into the side of a mountain and we actually found the layout easy to navigate around after a couple of days (my wife is also 4 months pregnant and she didn't complain!!).
The room we were given on the 6th floor was excellent, very clean with a massive balcony, outdoor shower, sun loungers, table and 4 chairs. The view was also good, looking down towards the sea and Puerto Mogan itself.
I have read some reviews complaining about the mountain views but what would you expect from an island that is mainly volcanic rock!
We mainly sunbathed on the balcony but on the few occasions I used the pool, I was always able to obtain a lounger and the pool was clean and heated. Granted, the sun did not reach the pool until 11 am but again, you have to remember that we visited in January - I would imagine this will change in the summer months.
We also found the supermarkets well equipped and within easy access.
Puerto Mogan itself is a beautiful place if you are looking for a laid back holiday and every restaurant we visited served excellent food (I would recommend Cafe de Mogan).

We used the snack bar at the apartments for lunch and again, the food and staff were excellent. The gym and sauna/jacuzzi were also well looked after and I also used these during our stay.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cordial Valle Apartments and are planning to go back again next year (we will also have a little one, complete with buggy!) and cannot wait to return.

We, 2 adults a 6 year old and a 2 year old, stayed at these apartments for 1 week from the 29th dec 08 for the new year. No problems checking in but difficult to find your room as it is a bit of a maze. We had to take 3 lifts to get to our room and got annoying with a buggy to say the least. Well equipt apartments. I cannot believe they are new as we found them looking very tired allready. Balcony was tiny so we asked to be moved to a apt with a large balcony which happened 2 days after our arrival and that balcony was huge and great for the kids to play on and for us to sunbathe as and when. You can hear every sound from above and below ie moving chairs, tables, showers, tv's, shouting, laughing, everything really. Maids were good. Entertainment was eye opening. Kids entertainment was excellent. Pool was heated. A fair walk to the centre though, approx 15 mins. Centre is lovely and the food was excellent and varied and expensive. If we went back we would stay at the hotel not the apartments, but we are not going back. Oh and the pool does not get any sun till 11am as it has to rise over the huge cliff the apartments are built on.

We were really excioted about our stay here especially looking at the pics. However the rooms are not much above your average holiday apartment except for a few Ikea touches. The views are not good, infact our view was of the roof of the apartment below. The pools are cramped, cold and all sun loungers taken by 8am (although reception give you permission to take people's stuff off them and hand it in to them if they're not being used which was fun! Staff are a bit cold and odd! not many brits at the hotel either.

We were told by our rep that you can use the facilities at the hotel next door but we were unceremoniously slung out!

Mogan is beautiful though and the only vaguely classy bit of Gran Can.

Gran Can is hard to get around if you don't have a hire car and can be hard to get one by the day if staying in peak times.

Can seriously recommend Guantanamo restaurant on the main road to Puerto Rico and the Bodega on the plaza bu the harbour in Puerto Mogan.

APARTMENT
We arrived in Mogan at 8pm on the Saturday evening. We shared the experience with all the other reviewers that our room was confusing to get to through a complicated maze of corridors and lift. When we found the room, we were pleased with the interior decor and kitchen facilities. They had a two ring hob, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster. However our pool view turned out to be simply a view of the aprtments below ours roof. I would not recommend requesting a sea view either as it is almost impossible to sea the sea due to the positioning of the complex. If you enjoy your comforts, you will be dissapointed by the beds. They are absolutely rock hard, but the bed linen and rugs were nice.

SWIMMING POOL
Each day i headed down to the swimming pool at about 10am to find that all the sun loungers that already been taken. The pool area is quite cramped, so there is no much room to relax either. They are still building the 3rd infinity pool.

AGE RANGE
We are a couple in our late twenties and were dissappointed to find that we were virtually the only people there who weren't either over 70 or German.

FOOD
Mogan itself is very pretty, however you need to be prepared to pay for it. We found it very difficult to find a place to eat where the main courses were under £10. If you need a cheaper option, i'd have to recommend going to the SPAR in town rather than the hyper dino, because the bread there is absolutely delicous - if you have any left over take it down the the harbour as there are lots of lovely fish that will very much appreciate it.

If you want a cheaper meal, you can go to Pureto Rico, but be prepared as it is like Blackpool times 100. Lots a British people with big beer bellies and all day english breakfasts. Not my cup of tea to be harrassed by each resturant waiter as you walk past and have seller shove fake handbags and glasses into your hand at every opportunity.

There is nothing really to do in Mogan apart from feed the fish, eat and drink, so i'd recommend taking some big fat books with you.

Overall, i was disappointed with Gran Canaria more than the apartment and will not be returning, I can understand why some people may like it, but Mogan is definetly more suited to a free bus pass age group.
