“Spring Holidays”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We have returned here many times at this time of year now. The apartments suit our holiday style, we like to have a small lazy breakfast in the rooms, eat out at lunch time and in the evenings. The room balconies are quite large, with an outside table and chairs, also two sun loungers. There is a supermarket very near, with a large selection of produce. Food can obtained within the complex, also there is a bar/snack bar with television for sport near by, down stairs in the shopping complex.

The main restaurants are on the sea front or marina area, which is about 15/20 minutes level walk away from the apartments. There are many and are mainly good to excellent. The prices are reasonable, with not too much variation.

The weather whilst we were there was windy and we also had heavy rain. It had not rained for twelve months, so it is not usual but you should expect it at this time of year, but it was still warm and we came away well bronzed.

The evenings can be cool or feel cool after a warm day. So take a cardigan or light coat.

Room Tip: Some areas near the pools have shrubs and trees growing in planters. This okay for privacy but if y...

We stayed for 3 weeks in January 2013 and had a very nice stay. We have already booked for 4 weeks in January/Febrary 2014. We really loved the flat the location of the hotel in the small and quiet city of Puerto Mogan. Ideal for elderly people like us, Close to supermarket, a nice walk to center for dining in the evening, and a short walk to the beach. Most of all we liked the easy access to the mountain where we went for a walk almost every day. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful.

We visited the hotel in March 2013, with friends, and having requested high floor rooms, and adjacent rooms, through our internet travel agent, Travel Republic, the hotel had delivered on both counts, so a good start. I had booked an upper floor, as other reveiwers said this is where you get the large balconies, and best views. This is not always the case, as we found in Rooms 740/1, where we looked onto roofs of the apartments below, and the hills opposite. Also the balcony, although sufficient was much smaller than the ones other reviewers have praised. A tip is therefore to ask for upper floors but with a large balcony and view - a point I was clearly not specific enough on. That having been said, the apartments are spotlessly clean, sufficiently equipped for self catering, although we did little of that, and the maid service, with towel and linen changes is excellent. On arrival, reception staff were efficient and very courteous, offering a glass of fresh orange, or cava, whilst checking in. The hotel can be a bit of a warren, when you first arrive, in finding your room, and you are left to your own devices, after being given fairly good directions at reception. Any maintenance required (we had a problem with locking a patio door) is done quickly and to high standard. For english visitors, the television is near on useless, as there is only CNN and BBC World News, so, if you have an ipad then load an english vpn to access channels from home-there are plenty of options on the net, before you leave-I used tvwhenaway and CatchUptv sites and they are very good, as there is an excellent wireless signal in your rooms. We booked b&b and the breakfast variety and quality is excellent, although I think that the staff, who are excellent and so friendly, especially the restaurant manager, should keep an eye out for abusers of the buffet.Whilst we were there, we couldn't take our eyes off a couple, whose only objective, at breakfast, was to pilfer as much food as possible to facilitate their meals for the rest of the day, stuffing bags and pockets. It actually became annoying and was like a production line!We tried an evening meal, early in the holiday, at the hotel, but were extremely dissappointed with the choice and quality, which surprised us, so we never took dinner again. No comparison with breakfast fare.Don't take too much notice of the bar opening times advertised, as every evening, when we returned, the bar was shut at 11pm latest so no night cap opportunity, although it is advertised until midnight! The infinity pool is great and there are usually sunbeds available, although one group were down there before breakfast 'towelling' 6 beds, despite a strict instruction, from the management, not to do so, although nothing was ever done.Mogan itself is a lovely little town, very picturesque, with a beautiful harbour/marina, with plenty of restaurants. The town mainly caters for diners, where most restaurants will let you have just a drink, although there is some reluctance, and we were refused just a drink in one italian restaurant. If you are into your bars then there is a limited choice. One surprise was that Denneheys, a large Irish themed bar, on the harbour front, which was very popular, was closed on St Patrick's Day!Right opposite the hotel, down the stairs, next to the supermarket, is a Bar/Snack Bar, called El Encuentro-try it as the owner, Manolo, is brilliant fun, and very welcoming. You'll get all your eglish sport there as well.We made some good, and some poor choices, when dining out.Without doubt, La Linterna, on the front opposite the beach, is excellent value, and superb quality, at reasonable price, with the owner being very friendly, where you finish off with a large free brandy, or drink of your choice. However I would suggest that you avoid the chinese buffet, on the same frontage, as it is truly awful. We took a boat ride to Anfi, recommended by the Tourist Stands near the harbour, but be careful as they'll try to push you into free taxi ride out and boat back, to entrap you in a timeshare day-just make your own arrangements and travel on the ferry, although Anfi and Aguenegen are nothing special wen you get there. Finally, the resort is predominantly Scandanavian Toursits, although you are not out of place, or treated differently as a Brit.

Room Tip: Ask for high level room with a large balcony and view.

This was our fourth annual holiday in Puerto Mogan. We had stayed at CORDIAL HOTEL 3 times
and had liked it a lot...but we thought we would have a change and stay in the APARTMENTS next to the hotel. As other reviewers have already written, the APARTMENTS
are spacious with everything you need...but the bonus is the roof terrace, large, with table and
chairs and 2 sun loungers. We would spend the mornings by the delightful marina, and it was
pleasureable to get back to the roof terrace in the afternoon, make a pot of tea and sit in
the sun and read. We didn't want to cook, so we opted to have half-board and eat in the
restaurant. The food was similar to the restaurants in the hotel, but less of a choice...our only
carp was that the two sittings were 6 to 7.15 and 7.45 to 9.0. When you're on holiday your EVENING MEAL needs to be taken leisurely, and 75 minutes is not enough time. But all in all
we were very happy with our choice to stay at Cordial Mogan Valle...we had a really great
week, and we will definitely return.

Stayed 14 nights in February-March ith my husband and our 7 year old son. We come from Northern Norway. This is our third stay in this hotel, but definately not the last.
Had a 1-bedroom apartment with a huge balcony, in the Southern part of the complex.

Rooms are spacious and very clean, with kitchen, livingroom, bathroom and bedroom.
Fridge, coffemaker and water boiler - coffemaker is not very good (this has been a problem during all our stays), so we go for instant coffee. However, this time the water boiler didn`t work either, but we got it replaced very quicky when we asked. Just ask in a nice way and the extremely service-minded staff will help you.
Plenty of hot water in the shower, good pressure. No air condition but this is not a problem during winter time. Bring a warm jacket for the evenings. Free WiFi in the room, but the connection is slow. Enough of electrical points for your gadgets. Old-fashioned Tv with a lot of English and German channels, we did`nt use it.
Balconies in general are very big with 4 chairs, 2 sunbeds, table and shower (to cool down when sunbathing). Drying facility for clothes on the balcony. Washing machine and drier down by the main pool (and also on the North side of the complex), 4 EUR per wash and 3 EUR for drying. Be aware that the machines only accept 1 EUR-coins.
Towels replaced 3 times/week, bedlinen 1 time/week. Cleaning every day except Monday and Thursday. Good supermarket just over the road where you can buy everything you need. If you pay by credit card, you have to show your passport, so bring this for your shopping round unless you want to go back to get it ;)

We were half board. Breakfast is really excellent with plenty of choices. Dinner in two sittings, first one at 18.00 and second at 19.45. The buffet is OK, but not as good as the breakfast. You can also have meat or fish fried while you wait.
The kids food was hot this year, not cold and half-fried - which is an improvement.
Icecream, fruits, cakes, jelly and puddings for dessert.
Drinks are quite expensive - 2 EUR for soda (200 ml), almost 3 EUR for a beer and even more for wine, cocktails etc.
Very good organization in the restaurant, you don`t have to worry about getting a table.
Snackbar open during lunch time. You can also switch your dinner for lunch (if you want to go out one evening), but this must be fixed in the reception.

Pools are very clean and nice and there is not a problem in getting a sunbed. No water slides. Main pool too cold for small kids during winter time (except for very sunny and hot days) - you cant stay in for more than half an hour. Infinity pool on third floor much warmer, we went there a lot, and saw many other kids do the same. I think this pool is meant to be for adults (saw a couple of people move away when kids were present), but then they need to heat the main pool much better.
Swimming is an essential part of a kid`s vacation....
Good service in the pool bar, but expensive.

In addition there is a Mini Club for kids (only open one day during our stay?). Play area. Tabletennis, tennis, billiard. Be aware that you have to book the tennis court hour for hour, 10 EUR per hour, another 4 EUR if you need rackets and balls, and another 3 EUR if you need a light.

All in all a grat stay. Puerto Mogan is a beautiful, peaceful little town. Book a taxi from the airport, costs about 60 EUR but save you a lot of time. In April the new highway to Mogan will open, and the 45 min trip from the airport will take Shorter time.
Main street Down from the hotel to the "city" is completely without traffic, it takes about 15 min to stroll to the beach. Nice sandy beach, no waves. A lot of good restaurants downtown, but not very cheap, about 15 EUR for lunch and 20-25 for dinner. At 23 pm. everything closes down, so don`t go here if you want parties and fun. However, if sun, relaxation and lazy days is your goal, Mogan is an excellent choice.

Room Tip: Southern part of complex

Reviewed March 15, 2013

My wife and I (in our seventies) spent 12 days here in Feb/March 2013. My wife has some mobility problems (but does not use a wheelchair) and cannot cope with showers over the bath. So we specified walk-in shower and were pleased to be promised, and indeed allocated, one of five disability apartments. Perhaps not unreasonably, these are on the ground floor, but also close to one of the adult swimming pools AND very close to the kiddies’ paddling pool. So when the sun hit here in the afternoons (room faces westwards) sitting out on the small terrace was a bit noisy. However, it was pleasantly quiet at other times. The apartment was of reasonable size, clean and adequately equipped. The bed was firm but comfortable. Parking on the semi-public roads outside was safe and always available.
The small kitchen had an efficient 2-ring hob and a microwave oven – not your "haut cuisine" facility but fine for most holiday needs. Three electrical appliances (toaster, coffee maker and kettle) were provided, but with only one kitchen socket tucked into a corner, so there was quite a bit of juggling of these items. We bought decent size mugs and a milk jug from the Sunday second-hand market in Maspalomas to supplement minor shortfalls in the kitchen. UK visitors might note that the coffee maker is a filter type, more popular in Europe; filter papers (get the larger 4-cup size) can be bought cheaply in the nearby supermarket. (This supermarket was well stocked, and not too expensive, but the till was invariably chaotic; give yourself plenty of time!)
The TV claims 4 English language channels. BBC World News and CNN were certainly there, but we didn’t manage to get Disney Channel and one other. In room WiFi was free and reasonably efficient .
We were staying on room only basis. We tried the (€15 + drinks) buffet dinner one night. The dining room lacked atmosphere, but there was a good choice of food and seemed good value when compared with the offerings on the harbour front of Puerto de Mogan itself. We also tried the (€10 + drinks) barbecue in the snack bar one evening; again, not bad value but lacking in atmosphere. There was a small group very enthusiastically entertaining the children, so probably better appreciated by young families.
The only less-than-OK aspect I came across related to the washing machine provision. There are two small facilities, and I only tried the one close to our room. One of the two washers was out of service for at least a week. The washers and dryers were coin operated but nothing to indicate how many coins needed and there was no facility for buying washing powder in the washroom. I had to go to the receptionist to establish that washer was €4 and dryer €3 (expensive, I think), and to be told with a somewhat dismissive shrug that I could get my own washing powder at the supermarket. A similar shrug was offered when I complained about the situation and was told that I had to put it in writing “on the green form” which should have been, but was not, left in the room. I was eventually able to make my complaint after 2 attempts to get the right form.
We had chosen Puerto de Mogan as it was supposed to be nicer than the big resorts. Certainly, there is little or no high-rise construction, and much of the village by the harbour etc. is quite pretty. However, it is still very much a tourist place, with wall-to-wall tourist shops and “samey” looking and often over-priced restaurants. During our stay we had ordered "cafe con leche" in many different cafes at many different prices, but the only bad one, and possibly the most expensive, was at a cafe overlooking the marina. Without any sugar, it was sickly sweet and possibly made with tinned milk. I preferred not to drink it. We were pleased we had a hire car for the whole stay, and were able to visit many other places on the island.

Room Tip: 5 disable rooms available on the ground floor.

As a family (2 adult+ a 4 year old) we went for a week to get some winter sun.
Location:
as others said the hotel is located around 10-15 minutes from the beach, but this is an easy walk with nice scenery.
Check in: easy, quick and hassle-free. Our was on the top floor as we have asked for a quiet room and this is what we got.
Room: good kitchen (no oven , but we did not mind) nice sitting area with tv (not a lot of English channels, but the wifi worked well)
Seperate room with a huge bed and we asked for a cot for our 4 year old so we slept in the same room. And the balcony was just amazing: we just sat there and enjoyed the sun (only from 11-ish in winter).
The hotel was clean and the staff was nice. We were on half board and it was definately worth the money: lots of choices and plenty of fish. and I need to highlight the staff at the restaurant they were amazing with our son. so much that when we left to catch an early flight he almost cried when could not say goodbye to the "hi-five waiter"...
this place is for families with young kids and pensioners who like to have a good time.
Woudl I come here again? YES!
Puerto Mogan is just a lovely place with nice beach (cold water) and some fine restaurants.
One tip:
in the hotel there is an option to get (i believe) 4 night half board at some decent price. use that and eat out in the lovely restaurants of Puerto Mogan. I think you can check this on the hotel website.

Room Tip: Go higher for a quiter room and avoid the ones at the pool as they did not have the balcony.
