“over booking”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Just receceived an E-mail from Meni beach hotel to tell us that the room we booked last September is no longer available The same thing happened last year whe we were on the way to the airport no time to try and get alternatve accommadation. The same has happened to many other people who like us have been coming regulary for many years, it seems that hotel owner makes a point of overbooking so that he can get the people who pay the most money in the rooms and tough luck if your'e already booked, sad to say it but if your'e booked try and find out before you travel or you could be doing the "walk of shame" down the road like I had to, last year suffering a hernia in the process, this was on the first week !!!!!!! the remaning week was ruined due extreme pain and the greed of the manager which not only upset us, but a lot of his older clients who he showed little or no remorse and have been guest of his for many years. So be warned.

Unfortunately on arrival there was no room available (we had prepaid reservation from thomas cook) and for the first 3 nights we went to another hotel and then return for the last 7 nights to meni beach.
My personal opinion is that the owner of hotel makes the overbooking on purpose. For ex. he got from me 125€ with HB and tried at first to reallocate me for all my stay to some apartments that cost 70-80€ per day.
It is not boutique hotel. They have renovated the hotel but not with details. The coffee & juises on breakfast were awful & from "cheap" mashines (especially the coffee wasn't working everyday), if you want to drink water on breakfast you have to paid extra & general the food (i was HB) it was average "catering" quality. The pool it is small. The location is very good.
For 124€ per day on HB accommodation there are better hotels to choοse.

Can only speak as we find. Having visited Meni Beach Hotel(More Meni) numerous times since 1985 we have seen many changes. The same family have owned and run this along with two other hotels on Kos for as long as we have known them. Although the hotel is not promoted by UK travel companies offering packages, there are a number of UK visitors that do stay regularly and enjoy first class accommodation, food and service. Never have we experienced anything but from the management or staff over the years. The hotel has recently(winter 2012) undergone an extensive refurbishment making it possibly the best Chic Boutique hotel of its size in Tingaki.
We can only imagine that those people who have not enjoyed their experience have not dealt directly with the management but have dealt with travel organisations who have failed to give what should be expected. So therefore would suggest they do so in future, at which time they
will alter their opinions.
Nothing is too much trouble. We will continue to visit twice a year as we do at present.

Room Tip: Rooms at rear of hotel offer sea views towards Turkey, and remain private and quieter.

As with so many other reviews we experienced the bad side of the Meni. Having arrived at Meni around 10.30pm we were told by reception that there was 'a very small problem' in so much that the hotel was fully booked and we would have to spend first 2 nights at the Katras apartments. I argued that this was not a 'small problem' but infact quite a big problem as it was not what we had paid for!!
Having done the walk of shame with our cases from the Meni to the Katras we found our alternate accomodation passable but were extremely disappointed with how we had been treated.
After 2 days at Katras we returned to Meni, Irene on reception agreed to allow us to keep our room until 6pm on day of departure for no cost aswell as free use of the safe, small compensation for what we now understand to be a very common problem.
Overall though the hotel is great, lovely rooms (ours had seaview) with excellent comfy beds.
Food was ok though seemed to cater more for the mainly German clientele based at the hotel, there was only one other British couple in the hotel during our stay.
We didn't spend anytime poolside as the beach is only a stones throw away but looked a nice pool area.
Whilst we had a great time in Tingaki, we would not return to the Meni purely because of what seems to be a very common overbooking problem

We like a recent reviewer booked the Meni Beach and turned up at the hotel after our flight to no room. Seems this is a regular occurrence. This hotel is not large enough for mistakes like this to be made. Don't trust them it is not a good experience to say the least!

We were looking forward to our holiday there and were told when we arrived that we should have been notified that they had no room, even though the room was booked, paid for and confirmed two months prior. We were not expected to turn up but as we stood there bewildered the receptionist, thinking about what to do, decided to take us up the road to another hotel, this I might add was not preplanned. This room was not up to standard, it was hot, the air conditioning did not work efficiently and was not what we paid for at all. We were told we could walk down the road to have our evening meal and breakfast and speak to the manager in the morning. This we weren't happy with so we managed to look at our emails to see if in fact we had been notified, maybe we had missed it before we left. No, this was not the case, an email was sent to us two hours after we left the UK, telling us of an overbooking situation and giving us an alternative hotel to go to. So we were blissfully unaware on our way out to Kos! The alternative we decided to accept as there was no way we wanted to spend our holiday in the room we were take to. Bear in mind this must happen regular as the receptionist had a key to the room at the other hotel in reception! Imagine how many more have booked this and been put in the same situation.

I agree with the other reviewer I also think they are probably selling off the rooms to someone who pays more. A holiday birthday treat to remember for all the wrong reasons! If you book BEWARE!

this is a lovely hotel - fresh, clean and friendly atmosphere - great staff. Beds are super comfortable and the rooms are generous sized. Even the towels are pampering and it is right across the street from the beach.

Booked and paid in full on 14th June to stay at this hotel 1st to 8th sept through hotels 4 u and really looking forward to first week off work this year ! 2 hours before setting off from Isle of Man for holiday was advised this hotel had overbooked and only one other hotel available in the resort which was not great ! Therefore ended up flying out to kos with no hotel as didnt have enough time to book something else. Can only assume they cancelled us in favour of someone who paid more money as I had emailed the hotel after I booked in June and no issues then. So be warned if you have booked this hotel and double check your booking is ok before you arrive as taking risk of potential overbooking is not a good practice. Quite stressful flying abroad with no where booked to stay.
