FAMILY REVIEW:

We don't normally return to the same place twice for our holidays but next year will be an exception when we return to the Mayflower. In a tranquil setting on the outskirts of Tigaki the only sounds at the side of the pool were those of laughter and the odd dog barking in the local small holding. The welcome we received was lovely and our room preference had been noted and acted upon and Elia was only too delighted to accommodate our needs. Both she and her husband and son, Kosta and Christos (who works all evening until the bar closes at 2.00a.m.) were so kind and helpful and Kosta too (Elia's husband). Our son was poorly whilst we were on holiday and their concern was always for him and whether he was able to still enjoy his time away.

The room was kept clean and tidy (with maid service 6 days a week) with frequent changes of towels and bedding. It was light and airy with plenty of space for the family and sufficient kitchen amenities to meet our needs. Air conditioning was available at €9 per day, which was well worth it!

A particular highlight was the personal touch around the bar, thoughout the day and evening, with excellent food and drink. Both Elia and Christos were proud to recommend things to do and place not to miss and were happy to chat about their family and culture. Not to be missed is the weekly barbeque and Greek Evening, hosted by the family. Kosta's barbeque was some of the best food we ate whilst on Kos! The Greek dancers were amazing but no-one felt forced to join in. If you did though it was great fun!

Dave, our Thomson rep, was extremely helpful and enthusiastic and another highlight of the holiday must be his Quiz Night which brought all the guests in this small hotel together in a relaxed and informal setting. Indeed, the intimacy of the hotel again added to the overall enjoyment of the holiday, enabling us to get to know other families staying with us.

Would recommend the Mayflower Apartments to anyone wanting a smaller, friendly and squeaky clean holiday experience. The family run hotel is just out of the way enough to be peaceful but close enough to the 'action'. Christos and his family are very committed to making the experience a great one and they do it extremely well. Definitely not your 'run of the mill' sorta place and you can take as much or as little of the socialising with other guests as you choose - the size of the place makes it easy to see the same faces each day but this helped make a friendlier experience than perhaps in the bigger more anonymous hotels. Value for money but with five star treatment from the owners and staff! Many thanks !

We have just returned from our holiday at the Mayflower apartments and what a great time we had, Elia and Christos made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, our room was clean and tidy and we had all we needed for a self catering holiday, rooms were cleaned daily and linen changed regularly, air con was a little expensive so we bought a fan from the local shop, Dave our rep was a joy to know as he was good fun and helpful. As beach lovers we did find it quite a long walk about 25 mins but the beach was worth it kept really clean,we also spent a few days around the pool ( unusual for us) but it was so quiet and peaceful. Eating out not a problem plenty of tavernas and bars, we liked Spyros and spent most evenings in there and then wandering back to the Mayflower for a nightcap and chatting with other guests, the atmosphere was relaxed and really friendly we would definatly recomend this hotel and we shall certainly return.

We have stayed at the Mayflower twice before so this was our third time (booked up for 2010 - fourth time). The family are so welcoming and will do anything to ensure you have a great time. Last year was our 25th wedding anniversary during our second week, we had a beautiful vase of flowers from the owners. We can not recommend the Mayflower enough. We originally discovered the Mayflower by accident...what a find!!! There is a good selection of food in the Mayflower, however, if you like to go out on an evening there are plenty of tavernas to choose from along the main road, we have no complaints about any of them. Tingaki is really nice, you must go to 7 Dayz (not a spelling error) for a snack and cooling drink. The friendliness of the owner is excellent, warm and typically welcoming of the Greeks. To sum up if book up for the Mayflower you will not be disappointed AT ALL!

We went to the Mayflower Apartments in late September this year. We found it to be excellent. Elia, Christos and Maria provided excellent friendly service and good food. The salads were superb. We had two minor problems, a dead bulb in the hallway and my inability to get the TV working. Christos replaced the bulb that same evening and then taught me how to work the TV. The one bedroom apartment had lots of space and was very comfortable, and the kettle, microwave and toaster (all in good working order) were all we needed. The beds were a bit hard but comfortable enough. The view of the mountains from our balcony was really beautiful and the balcony was quiet and private. The cleaners did an excellent job with towels and sheets changed regularly. The grounds are lovely with a fabulous pool. The gardener came at about 5 p.m. every day and in addition to doing the garden, spent a couple of hours in the evening cleaning the pool, the pool surround and the pool furniture. Watch out for mosquitoes; repellents are needed. The Greek evening was a laugh. Usually these sorts of things leave us cold but the skill of the dancers and their ability to choose the right guests to join in the fun was impressive. I noticed that there were quite a few Greeks enjoying the Greek evening. Maybe taking the mick out of the tourists has become an accepted spectator sport for the Greeks? There are plenty of good restaurants in Tigaki (try Spyros, RODINI - for breakfast, pizzas and good Greek dishes - and Sagittarius). It is only a 10 minutes slow stroll into the town and about 15 minutes to the beach. The road from the Mayflower to the start of the main street is lit but some people may find a torch useful. After rain (very infrequent) there’s a large puddle in the road and it’s either wet feet or a long detour, we chose wet feet. We would definitely consider going back.

The rooms are spacious and spotless, the pool and pool area is maintained to a very high standard. The bar food is excellent and freshly made. The greek night is a must the food is out of this world and the greek dancing is so much fun. Hire a car and explore this unspoilt beautiful island.
