“COULD DO BETTER”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

My wife and I stayed here last saturday 24 Sep 13. The rooms are quite small and sparsely decorated but very clean. Unfortunatly the hotel was cateringn for a wedding on the day we stayed and when we returned to the hotel at 00:15 after spending the evening in Heidelberg the noise in our room which was directly above the function suite was far to loud. When we spoke to the reception staff they immediatly allocated us a diffrent room on the other side of the road which apparently was of a better standard but not that you would have noticed. No discount or sweetners for the inconveniance so have to say, disappointed.

Stayed for 1 night in July 2013. Room was very large and clean. Bathroom had a really good power shower. Problem was we ate at the restaurant. What a disaster. Over priced food which selection was poor and service very slow. However what destroyed the evening was trying to get a drink. Bar service pre and during meal was at least a 45minute wait. Everyone was complaining. What was going on. Plenty of staff but only 1 managing the drinks. Spoilt the whole evening. Never come across such poor service and would never stay here again.

I stayed here for business in the Heidelberg area. I have stayed in Heidelberg and Schwetzingen in the past and wanted something different. The hotel is a hidden gem in a small industrial town where Boris Becker grew up. The rooms were updated with hardwood floors and a huge bathroom. The food is top notch, but maybe a little expensive. The room rate was very reasonable compared to other places I have stayed.

If there ever were a text book definition of a Gem, this hotel is exactly that. I was a bit apprehensive when I read about it being next to a cement plant, but was surprised when I arrived in this industrial town that looks more like a college campus with it's dorm like buildings surrounding the area. The hotel is a neat Tuscan village nestled in this campus. If it weren't for the big smoke stack next door, you would never notice there was a cement plant at all. The rooms are huge, definitely not the typical European broom closets you find. The tram stop is a block away and takes you directly into Heidelberg, the final stop so you don't have to worry about getting off the wrong stop. Staff was very friendly, the dinning room and the bar lounge is centrally located.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies. The rooms looking towards the courtyard have a good view but you will be...

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2013

Spent a couple of nights at the Villa Toskana last week when it was the venue for a conference held by my company.
The initial impression was slightly worrying as the route to the hotel takes you through an uninspiring industrial estate with the sun glinting off the twin towers of the locally famous cement works.
But the hotel is a little bit of Tuscan décor cunningly hidden in the middle of this bland German industrial park.
And as a Conference hotel it functions very well. The conference facilities are to a very high standard and the 3 main conference rooms in the main building can be opened up to form one large space for over 120 people, as well as there being many smaller syndicate rooms in both the main building and the separate building opposite.
The restaurant service was efficient and easily coped with over 100 people appearing all together. We only ate buffet food , but it was more than adequate.
The room I had was in the main building overlooking the front patio area, which is a much better view than those at the back of one wing overlooking the cement works. Although a bit spartan in décor and facilities it was very clean and very big. Especially the bathroom, which was one of the rooms with both a shower and a bath, and your daily exercise routine could easily be achieved by walking between them. These front facing rooms are definitely preferred but as others have stated, if you have the window open (which you will do in summer as there is no air conditioning), you will get noise from the patio dining and bar area outside. But once shut, the double glazing provides perfect quiet.
For a single male business traveler the room was perfectly fine and the hotel Wi-Fi worked perfectly well in the room as it did in the public places. But for a couple or family I can see some deficiencies, and I know that my wife would have been bemoaning the lack of a proper desk space and mirrors with nearby sockets.
So for a business conference the Villa Toskana scores very well. But if you are on vacation I cannot understand why you would choose this over the hotels in Heidelberg itself.
Perhaps it may be for the Spa facilities which we did not have the opportunity to try.

Room Tip: Take a room in the main building facing the front

Stayed here just for one night however, if I have the opportunity, I will certainly visit again. The hotel is very modern and the rooms themselves are spacious, clean and very well kept. The central heating system works very well, almost too well! Breakfast is also very good and there is an ample slection on offer.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

I have stayed here 30+ nights this year, and I found the summer season lacked customer service. As it is not a big chain, you do not earn frequent flyer miles or upgrades, but it is in a very convenient location for me versus the downtown Heidelberg area. In the beginning of the year, they remembered me as a returning guest and had a fruit basket in the room waiting for me. After May, there were no more fruit baskets, room service was either limited to snacks or after 8 pm, the rooms were not entirely clean, they have no air conditioning, the jacuzzis and steam room didn't work in the fitness area, there was no mini-bar, and the internet was constantly down. After this trip, I was going to switch to the NH Hotel, which is better suited for business travelers.

I checked in today and was very pleasantly surprised - I was given a very nice room in the new building, which is clean, the internet works, and the fitness area is up and running again. If they can continue to provide this level of customer service, I would be happy to stay here many more times in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a terrace, and if you are tall, do not book a single room, make sure to book a d...
