We are glad you enjoyed your visit. Lochwinoch is certainly easy to get to by car or train from Glasgow/Irvine or a local bus from Johnstone.
The Country Park is open 24/7, coffee shop daily 10-4 in winter, 10-5 in summer.

Castle Semple is about 50 minutes drive from the centre of Glasgow. We visited to take the walk throught Parkhill Wood. It's about 5 miles through mature woodland and takes about 3 hours to allow you time to enjoy the various sights including the loch shore, the woods with seasonal flowers, the grotto and the ruins of the medieval Collegiate Church. There is a mixture of flat paths and narrower woodland paths which can be muddy at times. No stiles, but some gates. Mainly flat but a bit hilly at some points. To take our route follow the red arrows at junctions. This is an excellent walk and a very enjoyable experience. NOTE : at the point where you go under a former railway bridge you will see the ruins of the former Castle Semple House (on private grounds). Once you have seen these go back under the bridge. Go through the gate on the left and up the tarmac ramp to the cycle track. Go right to head back to the Visitor Centre : watch out for cyclists.

We found this park completely by accident when we were driving around on our last day in Largs. It really is a lovely place and very popular with dog walkers, water sports enthusiasts and cyclists. You can walk through the woodland and come across some carved wooden benches, which are wonderful. The only criticism I would have is the cafe facilities are very limited, with drinks in paper cups and nothing of any substance. I would suggest taking your own picnic if you are planning to spend a long time there. There is plenty of parking and an RSPB site located close by which, unfortunately, we didn't have time to go and visit. Overall a good place to spend a summers day but remember, take your picnic.

Came here on the way back from lunch..
Overall a great place and beautiful walks.
Extremely clean especially the toilets..
Although cant understand why the toilets shut at 4.45 on a summer's day....
Cafe was ok got an ice cream bit pricey but the norm...staff friendly enough

Thanks for the review. As you say it is a great stop being right beside the off road Sustrans cycle route 7 Kilbirnie/Irvine - Paisley/Glasgow
