“A must-stay experience in BC, anytime of the year”
Reviewed March 24, 2011

We arrived late at night after a short drive from the Langdale ferry terminal (*bonus: you only pay one way on the ferry to the Sunshine Coast - there is no fare for the return voyage). The staff at the front desk greeted us, quickly checked us in and made sure we knew where our tent was. (Yes, tent. Tenthouse to be exact.)

When we opened the door to our tent we were stunned; the fireplace was on, the lights were set and the floor was already warm. It was very inviting. That night we fell asleep to the sound of the rain against the tent.

The next morning we woke to yet another stunning sight; the view of Secret Cove and islands in the distance. It was hard to get out of bed and even harder to pack our bags.

There must have been a lot of thought put into the design of the tent houses. It seems like every little detail had been thought out; from the instructions on how to keep the tent warm and cozy (there are heated slate floors and a fireplace), to the games box and books to read. The room (or tent) consisted of a ensuite bathroom, a deluxe shower with a huge rain shower fixture, a huge hydrotherapy bath tub, table, chairs, mini fridge, huge bed, and patio with furniture. This is not 'roughing' it, or 'rustic' - it is nicer than most hotel rooms.

On our way to the front desk we spoke with one of your housekeepers in front of our unit. She was very friendly and her cheery greeting set a wonderful tone for the day.

Unfortunately, we were unable to have a meal at your restaurant but the menu looked great. I know that if we are ever in the area we will definitely stop in and give it a try.

The location is a great resting point for those on a weekend getaway up the Sunshine Coast.

Waking up in the morning to the fresh sea air after a peaceful sleep in a very inviting tenthouse makes this a must-stay experience.

I read other reviews and was nervous, but apparently there is a stark difference between the tenthouses and the rest of the hotel offerings. The tenthouse is the way to go if you can afford it. Even the boardwalk out to the tents is amazing, and it feels like a special treat when you arrive at your tent: crisp, clean, ingeniously designed-. I cannot say enough. My husband and I travel the world quite a bit, staying high or low as our mood and budget strikes us, we try to spring for the nicer places when the ambiance has the ability to add to the trip and be more than a bed. Very much the case for Rockwater. The tent reminded us of luxery safaris, except with a coastal pacific northwest flair....it was such a priviledge to be able to stay there. We went in the rainy low season of november and found it warm and cozy with the fireplace...it was simply wonderful.

A quick ferry ride up to the sunshine coast (although we had liquid sunshine aka rain), it was quaint little resort with rooms, cabins and high-end tents to stay. We chose the room by the poolside with a view of the ocean. It nice and clean, also had a soaker tub and waterfall rain shower. We enjoyed a tasty dinner at the restaurant (highly recommend the scallops and risotto) and a yummy breakfast too! Friendly and accommodating staff to ensure we had a pleasant stay. Recommend.

this is just what we wanted. the staff are extremely helpful and courteous from our pickup at the ferry to the drop off at the waterfront. the chefs catered for our vegetarian meals (all 3 courses) the room was comfy and of course our highlight...3 body wraps! included with facials and body massages. truly delightful! we plan to go back in warmer weather so we can experience our outdoor massages and more!

A little late on the review here but it's here none the less. My husband is in the military and had been working pretty hard with them due to the Olympics. Right after Christmas we found we were pregnant with our first child, so we wanted to get away and spend some time together. We love the Sunshine Coast, and when we were married this was one of the two places we were looking at. We stayed at the other one, so this time around decided we would give Rockwater a try.

We arrived shortly before dinner time and the reception was great. They had noted on file that it was a special occasion for us, congratulated us, etc. There was an excellent deal on in the restaurant, but to be honest had the deal not been on we probably wouldn't have eaten there for dinner - very pricey. But the service in the restaurant is GREAT.

Our breakfast was also included, but we couldn't pay an extra fee to have it delivered to our tenthouse. If we wanted breakfast in our bathrobes in bed, we would have had to pay the full price plus a delivery fee. On that note though breakfast offered a plethora of organic and free range options. It was fantastic and tasty.

The tenthouse, although beautiful, was not as clean as I would have expected for the price that you pay.

When we got there I initially gave them my credit card, but when we came back up asked if we could leave a deposit rather than them taking a large preauthorization on my credit card. I was led to believe that they didn't take much of a preauthorization and that we could sort it out at check out.

Upon check out was when I got pretty miffed. The girl handling my check out was not nearly as friendly as the rest of the staff we had come in contact with, and proceeded to tell me that my credit card was declined. How? You had a preauthorization which was approved, so take it from that? I work in a hotel, I know how these things work. We ended up having to pay with an emergency card that we carry but don't like to use - and when I wrote a letter to the manager about everything that we found to be unsatisfactory, I received one phone call. One that I wasn't able to pick up, for that matter. No message was left, and they never tried to call me again. Great service there, management.

That being said, if you're looking for a romantic and peaceful time...take a tenthouse, and request that you be by the ocean like we did or else you'll be looking over other tenthouses, it wont feel as peaceful.

I found the hotel overpriced for what it offered. The cabins are musty and *extremely* rustic (pets are allowed in these cabins only for an additional $30). The renovated cabin closest to the main lodge is nice- but next to the septic. Smelly. Our room in the lodge was partially renovated. The bathroom had probably been done sometime in the 60s, but the rest of the room was nice. Food was average. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Both in trying to book (for a wedding) and also on a charge that showed up on our account when we tried to check out. The charge wasn't ours and they said they wouldn't bill us... but *surprise* they did. Called them and *surprise* still haven't gotten a refund. Overall experience... mediocre. Felt more like a 2.5 star motel. The consensus of the other family and friends who attended the wedding- they wouldn't go back either.
