“Not a hotel”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

The rooms are quite nice, big bathroom and comfortable although many bugs including giant cockroaches. However this is not a hotel. Not always staff around. Occasionally a random person will show up with poor english. Just keep in mind this place is basic and a bit out of the way. Otherwise a good authentic experience.

I am so embarassed to write such review, but I was totally disappointed by Lucy's Garden, considering their lack of experience professionality and information!
Finding relax and beautiful landscape is a good reason to facing up with a long travel to Gili Air, but at our arrival we discovered there was no room for us (4 people). I reserved a family room in March for 5 nights in August and they had a room only for 3 nights.
In a small island in August, it's quite difficult to find another accomodation!
Besides, the room had no aircon on the 1st floor and the fan wasn't enough.
On the same floor the bed consisted only of a mattress on the ground. No other furniture.
Also on low ground there was no furniture for our baggage.
The door didn't work very well and had crack.
And then the position: that part of the island is a good point for sunset but not for snorkelling; not so far from the beach, but you have to walk between cows and their droppings. The problem increases by night, because there was no enlightment.
As regards breakfast, it was a little poor and there was no place reserved for it.
Any advantages: beautiful garden, pool and hot water.

Lucy's Garden is a beautiful accommodation on Gili Air. You can relax round the pool or in the hammocks under the trees. The basic rooms are just that but have everything you need at a good price. Some of our family had the fancier cottages and they were very nice and had lots more space. The bathroom was also much nicer than ours.
I felt the location was good but yes it is a walk to the 'front' where all of the shops and restaurant are. Just make sure you take a torch and you'll learn to enjoy the walk down the coast. The local restaurants on the beach are also okay for the nights you don't want to walk that far.
One improvement here would be to have more information on the islands, some maps of Gili Air and also some information on local activities. On that point, the guys who work here are very friendly but will try to make a quick buck if you ask about excursions. I'd suggest the excursion/transport guy who sits to the right of Manta Dive to organise all of your trip. All of ours went well and we managed to haggle for good prices.

Room Tip: The bigger bungalows are much nicer but obviously the price goes up accordingly.

After traveling for 6 weeks in SE Asia one of our last stops before heading back to the U.S. was Lucy's Garden. It felt like we had finally arrived in paradise. The room was nice, the staff was amazing, the pool was clean and inviting and the breakfasts were delicious. With only 5 bungalows it feels family like with the other guests and the staff. Out of the blue, one of the guys climbed a coconut tree and surprised us with fresh coconuts to sip while hanging out out the pool. Now that is 5 star service! I also loved that it was located in the middle of a cow pasture instead of on the tourist strip.

I was aware that the place was still getting made up but it didn't dawn on me until I walked through the gate that Lucy's garden is definitely not on the map yet.

Pros: the cabins themselves are very nice. Clean, cold water only showers, comfortable bed and well-styled. The breakfasts were solid and filled us up.

Cons: The check-in process was a bit hit and miss as I tried to get my room in the pouring rain but it was mostly crossed wires. I ended up getting an air con room when I had only paid for a fan which was a plus but it appeared that they didn't even have my pre-booking.

While I did pay for a fan room, I paid an inflated price because I was told that the pool had been completed. This was not the case which was rather disappointing.

You are a good distance away from the block set of restaurants. Sometimes, that is a good thing but Gili Air is so small that you quickly become limited at night for food unless you're willing to hoof it in the pitch dark for 15 minutes.

On the day of our check-out, one of the guys asked where we were going. When we said the airport, he told us that all of the guys would overcharge us and he would get someone to give us a reasonable price. In the end, he quoted us double anything reasonable. It left a sour taste in our mouth as we were leaving. At the ferry, we literally got it for less than half his amount.

Tips:
Get an air con room as there isn't loads of ventilation and it gets pretty steamy.
When arriving on the island, ask for Lucky's cottages and walk behind them. Seriously, most clip clop drivers don't know Lucy's yet.

Instead, ask for Lucky's cottages as Lucy's Garden is located directly behind them. Seriously, we asked about 15 people including clip clop drivers.
Check in is a bit hit and miss depending on who you get.

However, the place is very clean and

We stayed one night at Lucy's garden as we had overlooked the fact that they don't have hot water and they are in the process of building 2 more cottages and completing their swimming pool which at present is a hole in the ground. They have forgotten to place a plug near a mirror so that guests can use hairdryers as there is only one mirror in the bathroom.

The staff are friendly and apologised for not picking us up as arranged and the early start of the workmen . I am sure that when all the building work is completed and the gardens relaid there will be place to sit out and enjoy tranquilty. The place is in the middle of the island and we got lost returning at night and a torch would be useful as there are no lights around and we were guided back by a local on a bike. Breakfast basic and average .

Lucy's Garden is a very beautiful, peaceful resort on the quiet side of Gili Air. This is the perfect place to stress down, lie in a hammock and look at the stars and the moon and just find peace and relaxation among all the exotic coconut palm trees. You can also enjoy a refreshing swim in their new swimming pool. It's my favourite holiday resort, and it is always sad to leave it. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and they do their absolute best to make your stay enjoyable in every aspect. The bungalows are new and fresh, and they are very clean and beautiful. Comfortable beds and nice, clean bathrooms. The breakfast is very tasty and you always get a plate of fresh, sweet fruit to go with it. You can enjoy a nice walk from Lucy's Garden through the village to the mainbeach, and it only takes you about 15 minutes. It is my favourite walk on the island. I give Lucy's Garden my warmest recommendations!
