I came to H2O Yoga to rehab my body and mind after recovering from a number of physical injuries, specifically shoulders and low back. Claire's class focusing on alignment was a huge eye opener to my yoga practice and I am leaving this place with a deeper understanding of my body. Thanks to Claire, for the first time in three years I put my hands above my head without my arms going numb. The subtle but amazingly effective adjustments that she taught have been incredible and I am eternally grateful for her! Not only that, but she taught an awesome workshop getting down to the fundamentals of the postures which taught me even more and solidified what I learned from her in class. She also taught about the history of yoga and the yamas/niyamas which helped me identify negative patterns in my life and ultimately kickstarted me on an emotional journey I never anticipated going on before this place! Strongly recommend this place as well as Claire for deepening your practice and self-love!
I’ve been on the road traveling for nearly 6 months and I can truly say that H2O is a special place, more like a home and community than just another homestay. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm and chill vibes from Bindu and his staff. It’s an environment that allows you to completely release, relax and feel instantly at home. For those feeling more active, this place also resembles adult summer camp for both yogis and the yoga-curious. Imagine clean rustic cabins, a cute dining hall (also known as Good Earth Cafe serving up delicious smoothies and vegetarian fare - make sure to try the Chocolate Bliss Smoothie followed by a yummy homemade banana bread), two delightfully spacious yoga shells, shaded hammock lounging, a swimming pool with perfect temps all around, and an arts and crafts station offering guests a chance to paint your own ceramic Buddha heads and turtles. Lots of yoga classes to choose from and ridiculously adorable kittens to play with in between napping, lounging and getting a massage at the in-house spa. Life just doesn’t get any better than this.
Highly recommend the H2O experience during your visit to Gili Air!
Thank you Bindu and staff for our warm hospitality :)
I had the opportunity to participate in four different classes offered here during my stay on Gili Air.
I have nothing but good things to say about all the classes I went to. Mia was my instructor and she was just lovely. She offered excellent instruction and was extremely helpful and knowledgable of the practise.
My only complaint is that I didn't go more! 💕
They do mainly a class in the morning (various types) followed by aqua yoga which you get a discount if you do both. And then one of an evening (again they vary it) the classes are for all levels and just go at you own pace. Aqua yoga was a nice stretch after the morning lesson. Teachers were friendly and helped. One class i went to was a bit to full an thought they should have a max amount per class really. Did there bamboo yogo, it was my first time so not really sure how it compares but it was ok and worth a try and would try again. Did there Yin class and that was nice. And they look like they have just started a couple of afternoon meditation classes but i did not try. They do a mutiple class discount :)
Daily 9am and 5pm yoga classes.
Regarding the classes :
There are Ok, the teachers are well explaining and correcting you.
But they should give you more choices in the poses depending your level.
For exemple the core focus class is good but it was too easy. When for a same pose you can do many variation to make it harder or easier.
Regarding the place :
The studio is big but yet during one class it was super full and it became hard to understand the teacher. (And this during the low season)
There are giving you all equipment (which is really great), but there are all a bit smelly (tropical weather i believe).
The entrance of H2O is always flooded ! And there is mud everywhere ! It wouldn't cost much to renovate this and make a real path all over the place !
You only have a bucket with water to clean you feet. Not hygenic at all, and you cannot clean your calves (which in raining season are alway dirty with the road of the island). Install some water tap (all indonesia have this now...) would be great...
During this customers visit the island experienced 2 weeks of continual rain, ( the most in 5 years) it was torrential at times, which effects everything, walk ways especially, but usually after a few hours the rain soaks back in to the earth and things return to normal. This is the reason we do have foot wash bowls and clean the mats daily with water and tea tree oil. We apologize for any inconvenience but sometimes we must realize 'Mother Nature ' is in control and we must accept that.
We have a large studio so we can accommodate the popular classes that we teach and the rain certainly doesn't stop people coming.
As we cater for people of all levels we do aim to give options for higher level students and we appreciate the feedback as we are always looking for ways to improve.
I attended an organised retreat here and thoroughly enjoyed the yoga and meditation experience! This catered for people who were beginners as well as those who had more experience. The island of Gili Air is a beautiful location for this retreat and the relationships developed with the other retreatants is something I will remember for always. Bindu has a lot of passion for everything he offers here and there are so many services on offer to suit varied tastes. The new offerings at the cafe are certainly a highlight along with the friendliness and joy of the staff! This is a memory I will cherish and I hope to return one day! Thank you to you all!
