We came to Gili air unexpectedly, and didn't make any reservations in advance. When we got of the boat at the harbor, a staff member of oceans 5 started talking to us. We were looking for a diving school and a place to stay, so we checked it out. There was no availability the first two nights, but we could leave our stuff at the reception as we went to look for a place to sleep. We were planning on staying 4 days, ended up with 8 days!
And still we felt it wasn't enough and didn't want to leave!

The staff is well trained, very keen on safety, excellent equipment. You get an excellent briefing on the boat, you get your time to prep, to do you safety check, and off you go for an amazing experience in the water.

You can feel they have a lot of experience and passionated divers, and they are willing to share tips with you on improving your diving skills.
We've been diving several diving schools in Asia, and Oceans 5 is for sure on to add on our list where we would like to do our Dive master!

The rooms at the resort are very nice and very clean. Nice bathrooms, good beds, good breakfast. We stayed at both accommodations, the bungalow with pool side, and the smaller rooms. Both were excellent!

Within 5 to 10 minute walk, you have cool places at the beach were you can have fantastic dinner in the evening.

We'd love to go back, and we would definitely recommend this place!
An excellent diving school and a really nice resort!

Thanks again to everybody giving us this great experience!

Professional dive set up with good gear and European staff. Clean room with superb pool and very reasonable prices for both diving and accommodation. Convenient location right next to where the ferry comes in, close to the main restaurants, but remember this is Gili air - even a central location is pretty quiet.

Our second 18-day visit with our family of seven, and we enjoyed it even more then last year. Accommodation, diving, food, staff ... everything was just perfect! Very relaxed and very friendly atmosphere. Hopefully next year we can add two little divers to our diving activities ...

Room Tip: The poolbungalows are a little bit more expensive, but definitely worth it!

Though I am not a diver and my partner is not fanatical about it, we opted for Oceans as our base because of the good bungalows and pool (the latter mostly for our daughter). The bungalows, especially in high season are quite expensive for Indonesian standards, but you obviously also pay for these kind of facilities on Gili Air. Bungalows are very well laid out and comfortable, with lots of space for all your stuff (and then some). Grounds are also very nice with lots of places to hang out. Cleaning is flawless. It is important to realize that this is a dive resort and diving is the number one priority. This means the pool is often occupied with divers (though there is always room for normal swimming too) and with all the going back-and-forth with boats and equipment it can sometimes feel a bit 'busy' (which is a very unusual word for Gili Air ;-) ). If you are not a diver (like me) all of this could make you feel a bit 'out of the incrowd', but most people are friendly enough. A big advantage for us were the multiple dives a day: this way we could fit the diving in with other activities, which is ideal if not all in your party are diving.
Two little points for improvement: reception service could be slightly more efficient: everone is willing to help out, but most can only help you dive wise, not with the bungalows. Would be good to clear this up a bit and give some supporr to the guys who actually work on this, as they sometimes are out of their depth. Finally: no major issue, but perhaps a friendly note asking people not to hog tge pool beds when they are not using them? Some beds are occupied with people's stuff rather tgan people, which is a bit annoying.

We stayed at and dived with Oceans 5 for five days. During the booking and organizing phase, the staff were very helpful, informative and friendly via email. Upon arrival, the experience varied quite a bit.

Upon arrival on the fast boat from Bali, we realized that although Oceans 5 is right by the harbor, we had to lug all of our dive equipment and other luggage through the sand and across to reception. Luckily we had read that Oceans 5 was right there or we really wouldn't have known even how to find them. When we entered reception, there were two staff sat at a desk behind computers. They didn't look up or greet us when we came in and finally one asked how she could help us. It felt a bit awkward, like we were disturbing them. When we told her we were checking in, she seemed surprised. She finally got up and looked into it and realized we were indeed expected and showed us to our room. On the way to the room, I glanced at the computer screens-facebook on both. I can imagine that it can get slow at times at a place like this but if you are going to sit on facebook, at least be willing to put it aside when customers arrive.

At the room, she gave us a half-hearted tour and talk about about how things worked. We didn't have a clue once she left and again there was this feeling that we were intruding somehow. The room was a pool bungalow, nice enough but smaller than we thought. It was just two of us but there was really no room to do anything but sit on the bed when in the room. No desk or even a chair. What would have been spare room was occupied by a bunk bed which obviously we didn't need. The bathroom was nice and spacious-particularly useful with all of our dive gear. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The pool was beautiful however there are dive classes going on in it most of the day and people stake out deck chairs early and don't give them up (they leave belongings there and then go off). It was fairly asocial. Breakfast was OK but nothing to write about. It kept you alive. For the rest, we found local warungs and a few local beachfront bars with good wifi to hang out in. While Oceans 5 boasts beachfront, you have to stumble over tourists and boats to get there.

As divers, we also found this place a bit strange. There was no introduction to how the facilities worked-where stuff was, where we could store gear, how/where to clean gear, etc. I've never been to a dive resort that didn't make sure its' divers were well-informed about the operations and protocol. Dives were available 4 times per day and you could request sites which was nice. The dive experience ran as hot and cold as the lodging. Once you signed up for a dive, you had to guess who your guide would be for that dive. Nobody was introduced and there wasn't much effort to make us feel at home. There was no briefing on the boat and there wasn't even always a role call. We dove with several guides, all who were nice enough but who ranged from just that to sort of friendly. Funny enough, while we didn't actually dive with him at all, we found Peter to be one of the nicest and friendliest members of staff. He recognized our faces after the first dive and was always chatty and eager to help if we had a question. He also sat down with me on his free time to give me some tips when he noticed we had the same camera. A really nice guy-try to grab him if you can.

All in all it was an OK place to stay and not my favorite business to dive with. Having been diving with other companies in and out of Indonesia as well as being a divemaster myself, I must say, I prefer a bit more effort on the part of the staff and more organization, attention and clarity with the dive operations.
