Before we chose to stay at Villa Bulan Madu for 5 nights, we toured the island and decided that the beautiful villa rooms suit our honey moon best and afterall we can recommend it.
The villas are enormous in space, have nice outdoor baths, verandas and a private outdoor bed.

However, it's quite high priced on Gili Air (food and drinks though are very affordable). It has no pool and the entrance area is disinviting.
Moreover, there is a construction site next to the hotel (luckily they start late), which made us wander to other beach areas every day. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay and were very nicely treated by the lovely staff.

As we are no backpackers we were looking for a comfortable place to stay which was not that easy to find.
First of all note that you don't and shouldn't book more than the first night in advance if you are travelling off season as we did.
You get much better prices by just showing up at the hotel and asking for a room.
Also be sure that you book your speedboat ticket with someone you trust as public prices are way more you have to pay.
A return ticket should not cost more than 65$ with Speedboat from Padang Bai to any of the Gilis including pickup from all know tourist areas.
Back to topic:
The Hotel which consists of several really big Villas is on one of the biggest areas I have seen on the island. Very well maintained and owned by a German.
The standard of the Villa resort is like a good 3* Hotel which is top line on this Island.
Service and Staff is very good, everyone was really nice and took care of anything we need.
It was a pity that the owner didn't even say Hello although we were in contact by Email beforehand and he passed by us 2 times in the restaurant before we knew it was him.
I think it makes a difference if the owner just shows some interests in in guests especially as we were only 1 of 2 guest couples...
Anyway the bungalow (No. 3) had a beautiful outdoor bathroom. The bungalow itself was so big that you felt almost a bit lost. Strange enough that there was no table with chairs in there or on the terrace where you could sit down and eat something (like breakfast which they offer to bring to your room). And its almost impossible to cool down the room to a nice temperature without having the AC running 24h.
Its very quiet there, you won’t hear anything but nature and of course the prayer at 5 am which I even couldn’t “switch off” using ear plugs. Well you get used to it.
Small things like giving the staff new company t-shirts (the looked awful) would be a nice moce from the management.
Overall we would probably come back here if we would come back to Gili Air which we won’t I think. Its nice to be here, very chilled out and relaxed. Snorkeling of the beach was very disappointing which one of the reasons we came here. Maybe its because of last weeks of rainy season. Asked other beach snorkelers but it seems like most of the corals in a reasonable distance from beach are dead.

Gorgeous villa's with spacious, clean and beautifully appointed rooms, a wonderful outdoor bathroom and inviting day beds throughout. Fresh water (everywhere else is mixed salt and fresh), aircon and room service and the best part, very close to the Day Spa! The girls in the spa are wonderful, friendly and have the best hands on the island! They will take away your aches and pains and ensure you walk out of there on a cloud!

Surprisingly inexpensive for what is on offer, the best thing about our stay has to be the people, all the staff were WONDERFUL! Caring, considerate and attentive service was above and beyond most restaurants and Stephan the Bavarian owner is an absolute delight! He regales stories of a much quieter island (35 years ago) and his efforts to assist the community and promote an environmentally responsible island are substantial! I felt proud to be acquainted.

I could not recommend Bulan Madu more highly!

Room Tip: Villa 14 is great for a romantic getaway!

We stayed two nights here. We read that this was a good place for honeymooners. But.. The bungalows were so warm that we couldnt sleep. We changed to a different hotel. There was one aircon, but that was absolutly not enough. One from the staff said that he would talk to the boss about it.
The wifi did not work at all.
Shower and bathroom is outside.
This place is also a lot more expensive than other facilities on the island.

My wife and I had a very pleasant and wonderful stay at Bulan Madu last week (September 2012)! We were given a hearty welcome, the bungalow we stayed in exceeded our expectations. A spacious villa with an "open-air-bathroom" as highlight. Beside the minibar A 19-liter tank with free drinking water was provided, air-condition and ventilation system worked without any problems.
The staff was very friendly and courteous! Conversation with the owner was very interesting and pleasant, all in all we felt as "familily members" at Bulan Madu.
As divers we didn't spend too much time on the beach, but we enjoyed this time as well, especially the friendly service of the staff.
Last but not least I have to point out the island's best grill master - the "Captain" gave us incredible culinary moments! Throughout years of travelling I've never been served such delicious fish and seafood as in the beach restaurant!
Concluding I can warmly recommend Villa Bulan Madu and we are looking foreward enjoying the familiar atmosphere on Gili soon again.

Our impression of this hotel was similar to that of Gili Air in general: disappointing! Though the rooms are spacious and the gardens pleasant, there appears to be a lack of recent upkeep. There is also no sea view at all from the rooms, though the website says otherwise.

We were in the room closest to the beach, and it was quite noisy - there was construction work on a new building just behind the room, minor mainteance work taking place in the hotel close to the room, and an area where all the staff sat and chatted right by the room. We asked to move and the staff seemed completely uninterested. We were told we could pay an extra 40 Euro (on the top of the already extortionate 120 Euro we were paying) to move to a room further back. Any hotel charging these rates should apologise and move us to a quieter room with no further charge. This is particularly so given that most of their rooms were empty. We asked to speak to the owner (who the reviews have described as being so nice and helpful) and he refused to talk to us. We paid the extra money as we hate being woken by noise, but were woken up at 6am anyway by the construction next door. We left that morning.

Overall, this place is vastly overpriced compared to every other place on the island (and we went and looked at many of them on the afternoon we were there!). True the rooms are big, but there is no sea view, no service, and lots of noise. We find the large number of positive reviews on TA highly dubious.

We had big expectations when we arrived at the Bulan Madu Resort. It was supposed to be a paradise for which we were ready to pay more than we would usually pay (the room was 1 milllion IR). Unfortunately the service is not of very high quality. The villa itself was ok, spacious, rather clean (with fresh and hot water). We did not have a proper sheet on our king-size bed but 2 small pieces of sheets under which we were supposed to sleep. The wifi did not work on my Android-phone. The masks and vins for snorkelling which the hotel rents were extremely old and looked more like toys than decent snorkelling gear (it is not a complimentary service and I had to get out of the water 3 times exchanging the masks!). For breakfast we asked tea and fresh juice without sugar/syrop added - we got cold water in a dirty thermos can and sweetened juice.
In the evening there was some loud music from the village on the other side of the island. The receptionist informed us that he did not know what was going on and that this was the first time he heard any music.
After 1 night we decided to move elsewhere.
