We stayed two nights at Coconut Cottages on Gili Air. Loved it as it was the most down-to-earth placed we have stayed at. We enjoyed the walk up to out cottage. Gili Air is not a place for those expecting luxury and any sort of amenities and Coconut Cottages fits right in. Our cottage was a little run down but the aircon and hot water did work. The cottage could do with much better lighting, better than amateur electrical work, and small things like a place to hang clothes in the bathroom.

What a find, away from the hassle of the harbour/ beach front area, a lovely clean room with friendly staff and a great breakfast and a short 1 min walk to the beach. Was amazing to hear the sounds of the birds which are attracted by so many beautiful flowers in the garden, most of the other places I saw didn't have any garden at all as the rooms are so crammed in leaving no space for nature;o(( Only good things to say about my stay, left chilled and happy.

Being a party of 9 we booked 4 cottages online for 4 nights. The photos looked nice and not knowing the island, we thought the fact it was mentioned that they were set back from the beach to avoid traffic, would be good. The staff were really friendly and the gardens were lovely but on seeing the rooms we were disappointed. They really need an upgrade and are definitely showing their age. Our room had a king size bed with mozzie net and very large bamboo cupboards which dominated the small area and were intrusive. The bathroom was pretty bad and the sink was actually coming away from the wall. The lighting was poor so it was hard to see in our bags which was annoying. There was a musty odour in one of the cottages and our friend suffered from asthma during the night. I tried to relax in the hammock on the verandah but unfortunately no breeze seems to penetrate the gardens. I sweltered and gave up after about 15 minutes. Walking out to the track near the water I found a cooling breeze so we decided to have a look around and see if there was other accommodation available which we found at a better price. We stayed one night but due to our friend's asthma we checked out the next morning.

Set in beautiful shady gardens some 200 metres back from the beach, Cocunut Cottages offered a comfortable and relaxing treat on what has to be possibly my favourite island ever visited. Breakfasts were really good, especially the fresh banana pancakes and strong lombok coffee and the young team very helpful. Although the rooms had air conditioning and decent sized bathrooms, they are pretty basic and could do with some attention as they are showing signs of age on an island where the newer accomodation (built in traditional style too) looks to be setting new standards, and not necessarily at a higher price. This is not necessarily a criticism as I really enjoyed my stay here, but merely an observation which I hope will help the proprietor for the future. To be fair, when we did have a problem with our air conditioning (water dripping onto us during the night), the proprietor had no hesitation in 'upgrading' us to a new cottage straight away, which we really appreciated.

Room Tip: Pay the small amount extra for the more expensive cottages.

I arrived to Gili Air for 1 week, just walked and found a coconut palm trees path, which one was like a magnet, I kept walking and found a cozy restaurant with welcome smiling owner, who walked me through a wonderful frangipani, jasmine and coconut garden to the one of available bungalows.
BUNGALOW was at the second level with big furnished BALCONY with nice HAMMOCK and a magnificent view. It was very clean and cozy inside the room, the bathroom with palm tree inside was a beautiful :-)
I realized that was wonderful place for relaxing and doing meditation and yoga - that was exactly what I need, and all social life easy to find, just walk to the seaside 2 minutes. At first I paid for 2 nights, but then ended up staying about one month, :-) so nice that was!!!
Any needed information about the island was given from a welcoming and friendly owner Kamil. All stuff was helpful, happy with a real smile.
Breakfast was one of the best what I ever had in Indonesia.
Sounds of the garden, birds, geckos...was like music...:-)
By the way, I met big lizards in the garden very often which made one feel close to the nature :-) they are not dangerous for people and usually they run away making noise with feet which caused a big smile on the face!
Location is perfect: 2 minutes to the sea and shops and Internet cafe as well, restaurants, bars and cheap warung (local) food...
Well , if u lucky to stay there say hello from Tania to the owner Kamil and Irease!

We stayed here for 2 nights recently.
The cottages are nice and cosy, and the cottages are set back a short walk from the beach. It is on the quieter side of the island, but close to some bars and restaurants. You need to get a horse drawn cart if you arrive at the harbour, it is quite a walk.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
The only drawback is that there are a lot of mosquitos and we were still bitten a lot despite the mosquito net, possibly due to several holes in the net.
Breakfast was good but quite salty.

I really enjoyed our 5 day stay and we even came back at the end of our trip.

The cottages are 2 minutes away from the beach in a nice, quiet garden with lots of shade. I enjoyed laying in the hammock on our terrace. You have a lot of privacy since the cottages are scattered in the garden.

The bed is quite romantic and there is enough room to store your clothes.
