“Great hotel for the money”

Loved this hotel. It was just like being in the old Bali. We loved the hammock and the balcony, the roosters and beautiful gardens. Helpful staff. Ended up spending 4 nights here after a recommendation from a fellow traveller. Very quiet after a great day seeing the turtles snorkelling and a wonderful fish dinner by the sea. What more do you want? Very clean. The only negative was that our room had a fan with no guard-dangerous. Most rooms have airconditioning. It didin't have a swimming pool but a huge one within a couple of minutes walk

My boyfriend and I visited here January 2012. We stayed for 5 nights. The bungalows were set in a beautiful garden setting a 2min walk from the beach. my boyfriend was also taking a diving course at a centre a 5mins walk down the road which was convenient. the bungalow was very big and spacious and super clean. the main common seating area, was also very clean although the food was average. the owners were super great and helpful. when we asked them where we could buy some coconuts to drink from on the island, the owner said we have some here, then one of the workers climbed a palm tree and knocked down a bunch of coconuts for us. (they didn't charge us or ask for money for getting them but we gave them a tip anyways). i also got very sick one of the days we were there. the owners lent us a thermometer and was very helpful with anything i needed. i would definitely go back to this place and recommend it to anyone.

Coconut cottages is a step away from the beach nested in beautiful frangapani gardens, the resturant is super as are the lovely staff. A quaint, quiet spot on Gili Air and helpful host Elaine will be sure to make your stay a special one.

Overall it was a good deal at Coconut Cottages. The staff were friendly and helpful; the room was clean; we liked the outdoor bathroom/shower; the garden area around the cottages was nice; and we enjoyed the food from the hotel restaurant (and the room price included breakfast).

But the downsides were that the room was kind of small--the bed itself took up most of the space. The room was also pretty dark, and somewhat musty too. We had a bunch of wet clothes, from getting caught in a couple of major downpours on our way over to Gili Air and in getting to Coconut Cottages, but we couldn't get any of our clothes or bathing suits dry during our stay there, and the bath towels stayed damp too.

The other issue was the noise, especially in the early morning hours. Coconut Cottages is near to a mosque, so you'll hear the call to prayer in the wee hours. But our cottage also had about a 12 chickens and roosters living directly under it, and they started crowing and clucking at various times before dawn and thereafter!

We were introduced to(and paid for) the Cottages by an agent Poppies 1 in Bali so had no idea what to expect until we got there. We had number 6 bungalow and we were delighted to see a hammock and Airconditioning which worked perfectly. Okay there was no fridge, but a shop was a 5minute walk away and the Bars were close as were the beach restaurants and yes they were great.
At breakfast which was lovely, the view was an Island delight as my wife describes, coconut palms, horses, cattle feeding, baby animals suckling.
Staff were very accomodating and friendly and the only downside was our tap water was salty and when making tea or coffee use bottled water. Want 5 star don't go, want to experience Gili AIr while you can? Do it, we are 59 and 53 yrs old....

I was a bit disappointed by the Coconut cottages - as everyone has said the owners Kamil and Elaine are lovely, but our bathroom was dirty(pubic hairs on the wall!) and really needed completely redoing - it's also got slats which let mosquitoes and all kinds of bugs in. The room itself was really nice, but the fact that the place is so close to the beach but doesn't have any beach-side chairs or tables means you have to shell out a lot of money at cafes/restaurants to spend time at the beach (the beach proper is very narrow and has lots of coral pieces so isn't great for chilling out on). Also I don't know if I mentioned it to them before we arrived but once we we checked in we definitely wrote down we were on honeymoon, but there was no fuss made - it just felt a bit strange as in the hotels in Bali the staff had been really excited for us and put flowers in the shape of a heart, little romantic things, on the beds. Oh, and our AC broke down.

Room Tip: Don't go for the Jasmine cottage

We had the number 1 bungalow, great setting in lush gardens (though that did mean mossie feast time for me morning and night). Outdoor bathroom was great and all was clean and welcoming. Breakfast was fine, I wouldn't recommend eating at the restaurant with so many great places within strolling distance. Thai curry's at Santays particularly good. We came for 7 nights and stayed for 10, would definitely return.

Room Tip: The top bungalow is large and great outdoor bathroom, but all wood inside makes it dark, the lower b...
