I booked to stay here for three nights. I had never been to Gili T before.
First up I must say that this hotel is on the west side of Gili T and is a fair distance to walk to the main part of town. They offer horse and cart which might sound great however I was shocked to see and learn how badly the horses (which are really just ponies) are treated. This is not linked to this particular hotel as the horse cart is used all over Gili but one must be prepared to witness fairly emaciated ponies pulling very heavy loads around with no fresh water given all day and only minimal salt water given. They work roughly 18 hours a day. I would urge people to go and look at Animal Aid Abroad Gili Island horse and donkey fund which details their plight and offers a chance for you to sign a petition to improve conditions. There is also the Gili Carriage Horse Support Network on Facebook.
So getting past this which I found very hard to do as the ponies pull up in front of hotel every day, as well as all other hotels, we get to the hotel (I chose to walk the very long way with my backpack) and it took quite some time to check-in and things regarding breakfast etc were not really explained very well. Other than that the service was fairly pleasant.
I stayed at the back of the hotel in the club room and I found this to be a nice roooom. TThe bathroon was very big and light as it has skylight in ceiling. The bed was big and the room was very clean. I cant really complain about the room at all.
The pool was really nice and clean and the grounds were lovely. Opposite is the beach which is also really nie and clear of rubbish.
They do play fairly loud music at the pool bar and also at night across at the restaurant so if you want a more peaceful setting perhaps not the place for you.
The food was generally ok but not fantastic, not bad either just nothing special. You can walk about 15 mins either side to go eat elsewhere.
The sunset is spectacular! I mean it really is. It is a great spot for this reason.
I think the main thing that lets this place down is the service from staff which is not by any means rude but it is disorganised and i do think this is on account of being relatively new and not in the groove.
Also the fact one needs to get the horse carriage which I could not bear to do makes me not want to come back here but this is a problem on Gili T as a whole and one that I will write about on a review about Gili itself. This is the only reason I give less stars for location as the sunset is nice but they really need to look at some eco friendly transport such as solar powered tuks tuks or golf carts.
