This was our second stay at Kelapa Villas, and everything was just like what we expected or even better! From the moment we arrived until we had to say goodbye. My children didnt want to leave as the love their time in the pool. They organised snorkeling tour for us, cooked us extraordinary BBQ. Everything was perfect! See you soon! We'll come back for the 3rd time!

This must be one of the most expensive places to stay on gili t and it was a bit of a disappointment. Having stayed in a low cost dive school whilst diving, my boyfriend and I were looking forward to some luxury.

On the surface, Kelapa looked like the answer. Private villas with pools and a hefty price tag had to be good. When we arrived, we were given a tour of the villa and were given a coconut milk welcome drink. The villa looked very good. Positives included:
-Comfortable bed
-Good shower
-Nice pool
-good service from staff (call to let you know when breakfast is coming, breakfast delivered very quickly etc)
-bikes and breakfast included in price

On closer inspection, it wasn't quite as good as expected. Tea is provided but there is no kettle. You have to use a coffee maker which doesn't boil the water and takes around 20-30 minutes to heat the water sufficiently.

There is no hair dryer provided. You can get one from reception with a 200rph deposit which was barely fit for purpose.

The villa comes with use of 2 push bikes. They were in terrible condition as we found out on our first outing. The tyre came completely off the wheel on one bike and we had to leave the bike in town chained to bike racks and push the other bike home. This took about 30 minutes. We were given a new bike the next day but we were already annoyed at this point. There are no lights on the bike which is just dangerous. You can get them at reception for a deposit but these should be given as standard like the bike hire shops. The roads are very uneven and the road from town to the villas is not lit.

The furniture is tired. Our sofa was stained and had cigarette burn holes in it. Our flatscreen television was black and white??? My boyfriend recabled the TV so that we could view in colour. This is completely unacceptable.

The toiletries in the bathroom were in a generic white bottle. One was marked 'S' with marker pen. We weren't sure is this was soap, shower gel or shampoo. Another was completely blank.
When our bathroom was 'cleaned', what appeared to be mouse droppings were left on the counter. The cleaning of the bathroom was frankly disgusting.

Breakfast was average too. It came covered in plastic film. By the time that it got to us, the bread was sweaty and the bacon was hard. The fruit juice was from concentrate and was very sickly. On the other hand, I enjoyed the fruit.

We stayed in Mammolo villa. This got very little sunlight at all. I ended up dragging my lounger onto the grass in the corner of the garden to get some sun. My boyfriend came to see me and fell over when his foot went down a hole in the untidy weeds.

Although not a very positive review, we found out stay relaxing and not uncomfortable. However, if you charge these prices, you have to improve the overall quality. We have since stayed in a much nicer place just down the road for less money.

This place lacks any genuine sole, we should have realised that there would be a lack of warmth when we booked online and found that we HAD to lay by PayPal and the commission would be taken off the bill - it wasn't!
The arrival was less than friendly, the villas imagination and ambience which at this level you might expect. We couldn't get the safe to work to which the eventual solution was to provide the master key after 7 visits by the DIY man who doubles as the security guard.
Breakfast was the low point, you have to select whst you want from a pick list the night before and your choices are then delivered wrapped in cling film and left in the kitchen. If you like sweaty cold eggs then its perfect!

I suspect there are are better ways of spending $200 and ill be finding them next time I am back on Gili.

Dear Wilberwreckage,

First of all, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at Kelapa Luxury Villas.
We find it very odd that your arrival was less than friendly. As you can see in other reviews, this is not an issue we have encountered before.

Regarding the PayPal fee, I am sorry that you misunderstood the wording in the PayPal request we sent. The 4% is a set standard fee by PayPal that was incorporated into your deposit request. We have not experienced any complaints about this before and you did not raise this issue with the receptionist during check in or check out.

As you arrived in the evening, after normal check in hours, we were not available to check you in ourselves. Due to the fact that you also checked out early the following day, we were unable to greet you in person and to get personal feedback.

It is unfortunate that you had difficulties in using the safety box provided. There have been no issues with this box prior to your arrival and since your departure. Having refused a replacement safety box, a key was provided for the existing safety box from our maintenance staff.

Our breakfast is cooked immediately prior to being delivered to the guests at their requested times. The meals are wrapped in cling film to protect them from dust and insects as most of our villas have open plan living spaces. Meals are served at the times specifically requested and if they are not eaten at that time, then of course the food will get cold.

It is a shame that you couldn’t spend more time at Kelapa Villas to experience our kind hospitality.

Kind regards,
Kelapa Villas Management

We rented 2 villas for 4 nights. Service was perfect and the staff was always very kind, they even helped us to find our tickets back to Bali.

Villas are very nice and clean, pools are also nice to enjoy.

Location is quiet but a bit far away a from main island's attractions (10 mins by bicycle). There is a very nice beach close by (400 meters).

My husband and I stayed in a one bedroom villa for 10 days while doing a dive course and we loved it.

The villas are in the middle of the island between the fields and can be reached by dust roads. The main tourist strip with the majority of restaurants is a 20 minutes walk away (or a couple of minutes by bicycle or horse cart) Because there are very few streetlights on the island you can literally see every star and the milky way when walking back at night.
The resort provides torches and bicycles with locks, so getting back at night is not a problem, although a bit adventurous because of potholes in the road.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and housekeeping does a good job.

I especially liked the layout of the villas: the villas are walled and provide all privacy that you could require, but unlike other villas we stayed in before most of the facilities were outdoors: the kitchen and dining area are outdoors, but also the sitting area with television. All areas are sheltered and cooling is provided by big ceiling fans. Our bathroom was an outdoor bathroom as well.

The only time we ever spend indoors was when we were sleeping!

I would recommend this place to most people, unless you are very squeamish about small animals: since a large part of the facilities are outdoors you will have to share it with the occasional insect or mouse.

We will definitely go back.

This place is equipped with very well designed and beautiful villas...We were 2 families from Denmark travelling and we all think the place was very unique.
Rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is very friendly. The tennis court is great too.
The hotels offers free rental of bicycles, so the restaurants are not at all far away at all...something like 5 minutes.
We would love to go there again at any time.
