The Beach House Resort

We were at the Beach House for a second easter in a row and had an absolutely brilliant stay. The western managers now live there full-time, and i must admit we did notice a difference this trip. Apparnetly at the time of some of the earlier reviews (so the island grapevine goes) they were buying out their partners which could explain some of the criticism about quality. Because we certainly noticed massive changes this year - mind you we loved it last time too!

The food is always fresh and the new menu changes gave us heaps more choice. And we LOVED the new beachfront pool! It meant we didn't have to walk down to the beach each day, but could instaead start our cocktail hour ealier.

This time we stayed in one of the brand-new 2 bedroom villas which was so upmarket and private. These villas have a private pool and i recommend - if there aren't enough of you to stay in the fantastic 4 bedroom villa (with a huge pool) then this is the way to go. We were 2 couples and 4 kids - but our kids are teenages and we put them in the tree houses which they thought were really cool!

Love the isalnd, love the diving, love the people, love the Beach Hyuse!!

We booked this hotel from a local travel agent when we arrived at the airport in Lombok. Unfortunately we hadn't realised that there was an actual beach hotel stall at the airport as well so we ended up paying more that we should have for it. But anyway ...................
We picked that hotel based on the lovely pics in the brochure (suspiciously, they are all shown on the review from "A-Marni" which also reads as if they are connected to the hotel!!) ..... but when we arrived we were very disappointed to find that the photos were all of the private villa and not of the regular hotel accommodation! You don't even see the villa, it's behind a big wall!
The rooms we were given were dark and dingy, so much so that it was almost impossible to even see without opening the door to the outdoor bathroom. We quickly upgraded to the "two-bedroom pool bungalow" which was a lot nicer. The plunge pool was outside which was nice but it also meant that we had lots of little worm-thingies crawling in under our door so when you'd wake up in the morning they'd be crawling up the curtains! a proper seal on the door would've gone a long way in my opinion.
Overall, our stay worked out fine, but we didn't get what we expected, nor did we get value for money.

My girlfriend and I stayed at 'The Beach House' for a week at the start of September and had the most amazing time on Gili Trawangan. The Beach House rooms are nothing to write home about but are clean and tidy and have all you need (you are in fact on a desert island so you can't expect the world!!) We stayed in a superior room which was large with a separate back room to keep your luggage in, we upgraded to a suite after 4 nights but were disappointed as it was actually smaller than the superior room and the 'plunge pool' at the front although refreshing was used by other guestes as well so it seemed a bit strange to be in the room and then have people splashing about right on your doorstep! Definitely not worth paying extra for.. The best thing about the place though was the restaurant and the friendly staff, was really sad to leave in the end as we had got to know a few of them quite well.

We planned on staying for a week at the Beach House. We left the next morning. We had booked a "Superior" class bungalow, however it was not superior by any means. It was an old, dirty room with bugs and decor that makes your heart sink after the long journey.
Each bungalow is a few feet apart from each other down an alley way. The walls and structure of the Beach House allow every word and sound to be heard up, down, and from the alleyway to the main street.
The local staff are very helpful and friendly but the "Manager", an Eurasian-? is definitely not but can be found drinking away at the street bar.
We happened to meet a local Beach House employee a few days later and were disheartened to learn how much they receive for a month's salary..less than some of us fortunate travelers can make in an hours overtime...
We stayed at Dunia Beda for the rest of our trip and found the room/bungalow outstanding with personal attention.
Don't mean to bash the Beach House but feel obligated to inform.

Read Linda's review with interest. Gili Trewangan is truly a paradise hideaway, unspoilt by traffic, polution and obvious tourism. We have been to Gili Trewangan and stayed at The Beach House (---) a number of times. The first time we stayed in the 4 bed. Villa and loved the luxury and peace and tranquility of the island so much that we couldn't wait to book out next trip back there. We have since stayed in the luxury bungalows as well as in the Villa with friends. The staff are delightful and always pleasant and helpful. The restauarant at The Beach House is by far the best on Gili Trewangan. The lobsters have to be seen and eaten to be believed, in fact the food display is so fresh and far superior to everywhere else that it's sometimes difficult to order from the a la carte menu! We couldn't fault the deli and wine selection either. Food aside, the whole resort has a modern relaxed and welcoming feel about it. Canooing, snorkeling, diving, water skiing, wake boarding, fund rides on the speed boat to nearby Gili Meno or Gili Air, golf, bike riding, walking, hanging out, sunbaking on the deck overhanging the beach, cocktails at sunset, everything your heart desires. If you are planning a trip to Indonesia and don't want to spend all your time on an overcrowded beach in Bali or have maxed your credit card shopping, chill out at the Beach House on Gili Trewangan. I'm sure that after you're first visit you'll be like us and booking your next visit before you leave.

I was fortunate enough to spend 3 weeks on the most incredible island paradise. Gili Trawangan is so difficult to describe as, on one hand, it caters to the young, and those on a budget, with inexpensive food, parties and a real 'beat' and soul that surrounds you. Yet on the other hand it appeals to people with sophisticated interests and a desire to relax, unwind, visit the day spa, maybe play some golf on Lombok, dive the waters, take part in water sports and eat some amazingly fresh sea food and drink a great selection of wines available from the Beach House Deli. And on the topic of The Beach House...What can i say? It was the most incredible place to spend a few weeks. The setting of the bungalows and the 5 star villa nestled into tropical gardens directly across the cobbled road from the water was so pretty and tranquil. The rooms are all air conditioned and come with TV and DVD player, which kept the kids happy on hot afternoons after a morning of water sports! We are a tall family so really appreciated the firm, king size beds with the pretty Indonesian ikat covers. All the rooms seemed to have little Indonesian touches, giving them a bit of a traditional feel. The bathrooms are outdoor, finished in river pebble walls and terrazzo basins. Each bungalow has a balcony where we sat and had a cocktail in the evenings before heading to the restaurant.

The restaurant and bar hang over the water directly across from Lombok with breathtaking views. The Beach House owners are all from Australia and England and are really on top of providing super fresh top quality food, and an amazing selection of reasonably priced wines from Australia, France and Chilli (we got to try most of them). Frankly, some days we didn't move from the waterside spot in the restaurant, lying on sun lounges, drinking chilled wine and listening to a great selection of chill-out music.

We also were so happy with the incredibly friendly service of The Beach House staff and management who helped make our stay so enjoyable.

The rooms were so cheap (around $50 per night Australian) that we decided next time we'd go back with 3 other couples and take the 4 bedroom private villa which has its own 10m pool, and is pure luxury and elegance - all for around $300 per night. So figure that out - 4 king size bedrooms, each with private bathroom and 4 sitting areas, kitchen, big screen plasma, individual tellies and DVD players, and an amazing stereo system. Works out to be around $75 a night a couple!

Overall one of the best trips we've had and if you want to mix a little activity (the area is famous for its diving or snorkelling) with a little luxury then this is an absolute must do!
