I have been travelling to the Gili islands several times, and even if things have become more modern The Exile gives the lucky travellers the authentic Gili feeling!

It has the cosiest bungalows, the nicest view of the sunset and the most helpful staff. The best part is that your are only a short walk/horse-and-carriage away from the bustling nightlife of the east side of the island BUT you still have the advantage of a more private/quiet b&b. Also the bar at the hotel is a nice way to start your evenings. All in all, it is all you want when you seek to experience the Gilies!

We stopped here for a break on our cycle tour around the island and I am so glad we did. This place is such a paradise. It is away from the busy area of the island but just a 4min bicycle ride away :) It's got really nice clean traditional style accommodation, a great bar and THE best location, along with ambience, for a romantic sunset with that special someone...but, most of all, the staff were so friendly, helpful...just great! The owner, Ewan, very nice guy! If ever you are in Gili Trawangan...you HAVE to visit THE EXILE...you will not regret! I wish we had booked it before we arrived on the island.

I stopped there only for a drink as I was cycling around the island and I loved the place there is nothing around so it is super quiet, the decor is great, the view is amazing and the people are very nice! Yes it is isolated from the rest of the island but this why this place is so cool. Would get there again by night to see the difference, recommended for sure!

Picture drinking mojitos or pina coladas, munching on tempeh and tofu with a chili sauce, watching the sunset and knowing that your little villa is just behind you and you are blissed out. I went with 2 friends for a cocktail and we ended up moving from the centre of gili t to the exile. the accomodation is perfect. simple and clean and fresh. an outside (but private) bathroom. Rizal and his team are the perfect hosts - there when you need them, charming and friendly and also give you your space. Will I go back - yes yes yes! I am almost loath to tell you all about it because I dont ever want to see it change.

It's not only the magnificent sunset that makes The Exile unique. It's the atmosphere in this nice laid back place and the team around man-in-charge Rizal who does a lot to make visitors feel at home. The bungalows are nice and clean, the openair bathrooms cool and nicely done. The loudest thing at night is the "noise" from the waves ... So enjoy!

Just got back from a wonderful couple of days on Gili T. We were looking for something a bit special - not another concrete corporate resort. Around the corner past Sunset point we found The Exile. It was the perfect escape from the centre. An idyllic hideaway for anybody who is looking for friendly service and unspoiled beauty - a real tropical island feel. It is what you would dream about when you are at home under extreme work pressure and need to recharge, The Exile has a feeling that is hard to explain, simple but adequate, relaxing but fulfilling, a place that is away from mass people but also close enough to restaurants, bars etc that you can have the choice of two worlds. On one hand beauty in a non hassled paradise with basic but very appropriate accommodation and food which is freshly cooked and prepared especially for you, or the normal western trappings within a 15 minute walk or short cidomo ride. The sunsets are breathtaking and the accommodation is very comfortable, clean and the hospitality first class. We loved either walking around the island approx 8km and coming back to the specially prepared breakfast, shopping in the main harbour area, snorkelling and just generally relaxing.

The Exile is the only place I found on Trawangan that still could give me real "Gili-Feeling". While the whole eastern beach front felt like little boxes with only one exit to the party walk, The Exile is located North of Sunset point - meaning only people dedicated to get some real island feeling by walking further than necessary through the sand trail and will come to this little bungalow ressort. The beach bar is best for sunsets offering great music and nice cocktails with view to Bali's Mount Agung, the staff is very relaxed and friendly (no beach boys or souvenir sellers on the hunt so far, what might be due to the fact that the place is still very new and far enough from center). The bungalows are simple bamboo constructions with thatched roofs and open-air shower, but they are very clean and well equipped for the cheap price with a lot of spaces to relax under, beside and around. Obviously there is more planned, since the construction for a family house is already outlined. The local food was also surprisingly good and authentic, although the menu seems to offer just the normal treat, ask for extras!
Who wants to stay here, has to consider the 15-(or some more)-minute-walk into the town area as well as swimming is only possible when high tide comes in. But I guess it's really worth for those who are on a budget and still want to relax during the day without feeling packed like sardines. And it's definitely the best place for catching the sunset for its whole length while chilling on a white sandy beach without any concrete constructions!
