“"Lucky find".............”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at Villa Unggul and wished we had stayed longer. The villas are immaculate, spacious and stylish with large comfy beds. The staff are well trained, helpful and relaxed. Not at all in your face like we have experienced elsewhere. Breakfast was good and plentiful. We usually had lunch served on the beach. The beach in front of Villa Unggul is clean and sandy and wider than on other parts of the island. There are comfortable beds, tables and umbrellas set out for the use of Villa Unggul guests. Also there are trees on the beach in this area that give shade. The view out to sea from the beach is lovely and there are plenty of boats coming and going to add interest. The pool is nice and again there are beds, tables and umbrellas set out spaciously. The surrounding gardens are pretty and well kept. We didn't eat dinner at the resort, as we enjoyed trying out different restaurants. The resort is set in a quiet area but is not far from the hustle and bustle should you want it. We thought the resort was well maintained and very good value for money.

This place is lovely, a great atmosphere, staff are so friendly, food is really good, rooms are spacious and very clean, pool area is quiet and relaxing, area is perfect, near the main strip but not right ontop of it all so it's quiet. Would defiantly recommend this hotel to everyone.

This is a great little hotel on Gili T. Rooms are very clean, spacious, and have great AC (much needed on the islands). The staff was incredibly helpful and warm, always greeting me with a smile and an eagerness to make my stay as pleasant as possible. I especially loved the hotel because it was on the main street, within walking distance to everything, but far enough away that it was quiet and you could escape the craziness of the all night parties IF you wanted. While the hotel is beachfront, its not literally right on the beach; but actually none of the hotels on Gili T are....the main road (small dirt road, wide enough for two horse buggies) separates the hotel grounds from the beach, as is true with all the hotels on the island. In addition to having lounge chairs & umbrellas on the beach, they have a nice pool that is quite big for island standards; really refreshing after being in the beach all day.

The main reason I chose this hotel over others is because it was "beachfront" and actually had lounge chairs and umbrellas for guests use on the beach, it had fresh water showers, was close but not too close to all the action, had a pool, and included breakfast in the room rate. Other hotels I considered (Scalleywags and Villa Ombok) did not have all of this.

The only quasi negative is that the rooms are dark and have no view. I have a feeling this is how most of the hotel rooms on Gili T are though, it's not what I expected, but I think it just the way things are on the island.

Only other tip when planning your travel to the Gilis. Do your research on the fast boat ferry service you take from Bali to the islands. As the guide books all said (and which I didn't listen to and after regretted) not all fast boat companies are equal. Don't take the cheapest option because you definitely get what you pay for. I went on Sea Marlin and it was an awful experience...not enough seats for passengers, no life vests or preservers in sight (not even the cheesy life saver ring boats have nailed onto their wall for decoration), and the staff were unfriendly and rude (I was traveling for 2 weeks in and around Bali and the only unpleasant people I met worked for Sea Marlin).

We stayed three nights in Villa Unggul, and were very satisfied. Rooms were lovely, spacious and well decorated. AND very clean and well maintained. Beautiful outdoor areas and nice large pool, overlooking the ocean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did a wonderful snorkling trip arranged by Villa Unggul. Highly recommended hotel.

We left our originally booked "hut" on Gili T. and were lucky to snatch up the last room close to New Years. Beautiful grounds, spacious room with king bed, very clean, hot fresh water and has consistant AC! Pool was a bit warm for swimming but was clean. Loved the chairs on the beach especially for guests and the beachside service for food and drinks. Staff were very friendly and were always on top of everything. Very quiet- we did not hear the mosque nearby at all.

Room Tip: We stayed at the farthest room to the back of the compound on the right side.

On an island catering to the needs of backpackers, this was a lucky find for great service and comfort! It's a little more expensive than the backpacker rooms, but you get what you pay for, and it was worth paying the little extra for this place...

The staff were all helpful and looked after the place well (cleaned the pool frequently!) The rooms/cabins are large, comfortable, albeit a little dark. The pool (they try for fresh water, impossible this close to the sea!) is a nice comfort if you don't feel like tackling the sharp shells on the beach for a swim! The beach is right across the path, with loungers, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment rental right at the entrance. The food is pretty good, but after two weeks the breakfast choices are bound to feel a little boring!

Granted the "town" is 15 minutes walk along the beach, but there are plenty of great restaurants along the way, the night market, and bands play in most restaurants. The benefit of the 15 minutes is noise is minimal at night, even the 5am mosque call to prayer is not as loud here....

I would definitely stay here again!
